This is exactly my thought process. Oh you don't want to do it, okay here's the VI. Which is worse, I honestly don't know. I think I'd prefer the ticket so you can at least dispute it.

Your getting a VI either way, and there is little chance you can fight a noise ticket and win. Christensen brags about high conviction rate.

British Columbia Dealer, Repairer, Manufacturer, Transporter plates are only issued in singles
High chance other provinces are the same

yray 02-26-2020 05:18 PM

lol good thing bmw canada is in Richmond

^ Press cars don’t use dealer plates, they use Ontario plates

Ok that FRS is not stock.

Those are after market headlights that you need to re-pin to have them work, they appear to have a turn signal.
That foglight is aftermarket and there is a turn signal light above it that's been removed/blacked with plastic dip where your normal turn signal would be.

Let's get some more facts here. It makes us look bad if we go around using "Stock" cars as examples of victims of VI's when the car is not stock and if the lights were not re-pinned they won't have a DRL or turn signal.

cywinr 02-26-2020 06:13 PM

Looks like they ran out of sports cars, they going after stock FRS and stock basic af bmw 3 series not even m sport

Let's call a spade a spade and get the real story here.

Post amended. I genuinely did not know it was aftermarket. I've seen his car many times in person and I thought they came like that. Aside from what you listed, I know for a fact, stock exhaust, stock suspension, no engine mods, wheels are OEM cause winter.

Since you edited, I'll continue to clarify - he does have working DRLs and turn signals.

All this drama only hours after my previous post almost confirms that the members of the unit are getting desperate trying to maintain their unrealistic and basically fraudulent numbers. On pink shirt day, no less.

BMW Canada's technical manager will hear the background story. Hopefully something positive come out of this as cars don't come much more stock than press cars.

Do the DRLs work though? If that's what the VI is for, and the lights are aftermarket ones that need rewiring to boot, that's a critical detail.

On top of that cars having them turn off with the handbrake up is new to me (mine come on when you drop it down but then they stay on til the car is turned off) but I could see why it would cause confusion when pulled over.

As for the BMW, does that model have a sports exhaust option like people have been talking about the obnoxiously loud cars having?

What about parts that don't come in a box that says "off road use only", so those are automatically legal?

That label has NOTHING to do with legality

"off-road use only" = mfgr too lazy/cheap to test it so it's their get out of jail free card if you die/seriously get injured/injure others/get in trouble with law enforcement when using it on public roadways

Both my Hyundai Elantra and Ioniq are like that, DRL on when you disengage the hand brake.

When you pull up the hand brake, the DRL turns off.

Ontario is front/rear plates.

Alright as you guys know I got pulled over in a FULLY STOCK straight from factory M4

Car is actually sitting on 19's rather than the 20s but... that should help it.

Nevertheless, I was driving on Powell street just past Clark where the officer is making a left, as the light just turned green I was accelerating on the right lane west bound. He instantly turned on his lights and went right after me.

He looked under my rear bumper and said "Who removed the muffler" I try to inform him that this is a press car and I only have it for the week. However, before I can explain anymore he said "So you don't know who remove the muffler from the car. So you don't know, do you know or don't know. This is very simple grammatical English if you're from the press. Do you know or don't know who removed the mufflers from the car"

Obviously I haven't looked at the back end I know there are tips but I haven't got a clue if it's straight pipped so my answer to him was "I don't know"

He said a whole bunch of other stuff, I do have a video of the interaction however I need to speak to BMW Canada first. If they are going to get lawyers involved I don't want to release any video without their consent.

That's some condescending bullshit. How is that kind of conduct "professional"?

twitchyzero 02-26-2020 08:16 PM

that's standard treatment if you ever have to deal with CBSA/CBP border x-ings

My 1993 ES300 is like this too. It's been like this since the beginning of time.

I've literally never, in my entire life thus far having used to live by the border and crossing into the US at least 3x per week, and still crossing into the US at least once a week nowadays, ever dealt with anyone as condescending as how the above interaction was described.

I can't wait for the shitstorm that is brewing. Especially with BMW involved

or nothing will come out and we will be left in the dark...

Traum 02-26-2020 09:30 PM

BMW will know about the incident, and then it is up to them to decide what to do. I also hope the Porsche Club folks will inform Porsche Canada about their run in with the VPD as well. As both vehicles are bone stock, I hope both manufacturers will see how this bullshxt enforcement will only hurt their sales numbers here in Vancouver, and dedicate some resources to address it.

bomberR17 02-26-2020 09:38 PM

I wonder if BMW Canada will compensate for the unnecessary noise ticket or fight in court on your behalf. The inspection can obviously be taken care of.

I sincerely doubt it. From my understanding Automakers only create cars to pass whatever federal requirements, not provincial and certainly not what some wack ass group of crooked cops in a municipality. With all their bean counting (saving a couple of cents per part is a metric they look at) I don’t think they’ll give a shit about us. But that being said it doesn’t hurt to ask.

It's a dangerous game for BMW. I'd bet 1/3rd of their cars sales for the entire country are in the GVRD. They certainly don't want their current and future customers thinking they can't drive their cars here without police harassment.

trollface 02-27-2020 08:22 AM

The last thing you should be doing is donating money to some stranger called the Hype Bunny that drives a VI machine and goes around every corner sideways in rush hour traffic.

He's not exactly a good poster child for the cause.
