On paper the notion of assimilation isn't unreasonable yet when folks like you say it (the way you say it and your prior record/comments) it can't help but come across as racist. More broadly, the notion of assimilation and belief that newcomers aren't adapting is a trope as old as time. In the past it was the Irish then the Italians then the Jews then the Chinese. Now it's Arabs and Indians. It was racist back then, it's racist today.

Today, Asian immigrants are widely accepted but I'm old enough to remember being shouted at by white people. I have family members who have experienced the "You people" accusations. It was us that were the baddies back then who didn't "want" to assimilate, now it's the Arabs and Indians getting that rap.
