this is cold? lol

BIC_BAWS 10-06-2025 09:14 PM

Yeah idk how ppl are thinking this is cold. You'd think I'd be extra cold since I just got back from Asia.. but maybe its cause I slept with AC blasting at 18*C.. it was like sleeping in a fridge.

I just left an AI industry event and one of the reoccurring themes is that typically, industries in Canada wait for mom+dad (the government) to implement new technologies before SMEs invest into it. Further to that SME adoption works as a POC for enterprise or multi-nationals.

I'd argue it's double layered - ebike adoption might not be as strong if we didn't have the bicycle infrastructure to support that traffic. In this instance, government did what they were supposed to - they rolled out infrastructure and rolled out grants to promote adoption. But it's all too typical across Canada where we have this learned helplessness and lack of urgency.

That's a fair observation, a very chicken and egg scenario, but the ebike phenomenon is taking off regardless of bike lanes or not around the world.

What is this AI industry event

bcrdukes 10-07-2025 06:49 AM

Not the same, but any of you going to the Databricks Summit in Toronto at the end of the month?

mikemhg 10-07-2025 05:33 PM

It's still good riding weather, I went Sunday and it was warm, not shirts off warm like my usual, but t-shirt warm.

Still probably a good few weeks into October for riding, usually retire the bike into storage by November.

spoon.ek9 10-07-2025 05:37 PM

Walking in the afternoon is still pretty damn warm. I have to take my jacket off or I'm a sweaty mess by the time I get home.

mikemhg 10-07-2025 06:19 PM

I wanna see White on a bike.

Don't usually see a 250lbs man riding a carbon bike in leotards, no wonder he didn't come over :lol

Badhobz 10-07-2025 10:28 PM

When did he say he’s 250lbs ?!? He could be 250 of all muscle and look like the hulk

When he said "rides", so he either came on a bicycle of some kind, or a motorcycle. I did notice a motorcycle rider circle us a few times and he had this whitev70r look*. I wrote it off to give him benefit of the doubt, but here is he, just a soulless username to us all.

Probably went back to his wife and said to her, "wah, ho gay, lah!"

*I have no idea what he looks like. I'm sure he's a nice guy in person.

bcrdukes 10-07-2025 10:53 PM

What if mikemhg's friend with the Tesla was whitev70r? :suspicious:

190, bud. Don't do me like that. Haven't been 175 since I was 20 :lol

Didn't you say you're 250lbs or did I completely make that up?

whitev70r 10-08-2025 01:44 PM

I don't recall saying I was that big ... I usually don't disclose any personal facts that makes me remotely identifiable .. :lol

If I do state any personal facts, it's almost certainly a red herring, part of my altered ego.

mikemhg 10-08-2025 01:55 PM

I kinda figured, god damnit.

JDMDreams 10-09-2025 12:48 PM

I'm surprised how well things are going considering Canada post, liquor store, weed store is all closed. I thought these "services" were essential. We should just shut all of them down and get Amazon 4 am delivery to do it.

I just had to order some car parts that ended up being shipped with UPS. The parts were $58. Shipping was $35. Now they sent me their import charges. $4 goverment fee, $3 in taxes, then $25 in brokerage fees.

idk about you but that's the opposite of things going well. I want Canada Post back open.

If you're in a major city (iirc Kelowna) and not some middle of nowhere one road town, Canada Post is usually NOT the cheapest option. I did the cost breakdown the last time they went on strike and showed clear calculation that Canada Post is not the best or cheapest option.

Seeing that Canada Post is on strike, all of the load that CP bears gets moved onto everyone else, thus the temp. price increase on shipping charges.

That said $35 for smt cross border sounds about right.
