I've been looking for a replacement for my Hikvision camera system - not because of the security thing but because I want to integrate my doorbell with my camera system and be able to access it online and via my phone. The Lorex product line seems to support all of that.

My hik crap used to be accessible online. The problem is now rewiring the whole thing. What a pain in the ass. I want wired cameras not wireless. Wireless systems are unreliable

I’ve had Lorex for about 7 years now

The software was total trash and went through periods when I couldn’t even use the app to see my cameras, however, the hardware has been flawless. Zero downtime in those 7 years from the cameras or the brain

The newer systems use a different app which seems to be more reliable, my cameras were at an age where they transitioned to a new app for old hardware and it caused a lot of issues

You can mix and match wired and wireless with the Lorex - the kit I linked to from Costco is an all wired system. I'm guessing it can reuse all the wiring I have in place for the HIK system but I haven't confirmed it yet - I have two wired cameras way up high on my house so there's no way I'm climbing up once a year to swap batteries but I also want 2-4 other cameras plus the doorbell all integrated together. Apparently it all hooks into Alexa so I could get a hub in my kitchen to always see what's going on.

Canadian founded and owned they say. HQ in Markham so staffed by Ching Chong for sure and it was owned at some point by Duhua which is a Chinese company banned by the US in 2019. My Google check does say when and if Lorex was sold off or not at some point (it's implied).

The cameras are definitely made in China - I doubt anyone else has the expertise and production costs to make them elsewhere.
