He's been pretty pointed about how the relationship with the US has changed forever and I don't believe he's saying that just as talk, his POV is that we need to work with other nations.
He's not the only one who isn't making the US a priority - Brazil has 50% tariffs on them and they're moving on with life rather than trying to negotiate with the US. Why negotiate? Japan allegedly had a 15% agreement with the US a couple weeks ago (Japan said this was untrue) and now the US is saying it'll be 30%. It's total chaos with the US. | Bro, do you even believe the bullshit you write?
Of course the US trade deal is their #1 priority. If he is incapable of reducing the tariff, its pretty bad news for the USMCA re-negotiation that is happening next year.
Mark "Teflon" Carney ran and won on the claim that he could deal with Trump. It was in the book you supposedly read. That was his only selling point. He was supposed to be experienced, calm under pressure, and apparently had a lot of strong negotiation skillz. If we are already throwing in the towel, what exactly were Canadians sold? His appeal was ability to manage the US-CANADA trade relations...walking away from our biggest trading partner isn't a strategy.

for your average canadian, i think thats a really sensible choice if you find vancouver too expensive. i mean what are you really missing by moving away? food and shopping, but thats about it. Job wise, if you can work remotely, why would you stay here.... makes no sense. | This is what happens to a lot of small town people. Tried it in a big cities and realize so many fake people and can't build relationships... Can blame them now. Might be easier now as you can't build relationships anywhere since COVID and smart phones with infinity loops.
They go back and realize it's a culture shock from being in a vibrant and hip city back to nothing. It's the culture shock shift they gotta deal with.
Have to be honest, I've been lucky to work from home since 2005 (4 diff jobs) and current job is also full remote; yes I've struck gold.
Yes I coudl move to sask, Newfoundland and not work and live off selling my place here. I'm 45 so that's easy. If you're 25-30 moving back to small town, catch 21. No big city job and your small town job still won't let you buy a place.

He looks soft and like he's not fighting back, no 'elbows up', but instead he is considering lowering or removing some US tariffs. BECAUSE in the end, raising tariffs on US goods might make you look tough but essentially, tariffs make things more expensive to the avg Canadian consumer. Meanwhile, Trump raising tariffs on everyone in due time will see inflation go up in the US. There are indicators that their economy slowing down.
Is the US headed toward a recession? Experts weigh in https://abcnews.go.com/Business/us-h...y?id=124407347 | I brought up why have retaliatory tariffs during the election and before Carney was elected and everyone gave me shit because I thought they were pointless other than a pride thing. Oh now it’s fine
