Let me remind everyone who’s blinded by the shiny new toy.
This is effectively year 11 of this regime. This is not new.

Blah blah blah Turd is the problem, then the party is the problem, now Carney is the problem or maybe he's not but he can't change enough because the pieces are the same.
If PP was PM and he was bumbling through sucking Trump's dick while pushing his glasses up his nose every 3 seconds it would be like "Give it time things will come"
People's opinions on what they think they know about everything just make me naseous at this point.

"Accomplishing nothing" with Trump by telling him "Canada is not for sale" is a huge upgrade from taking the first steps towards making Canada the 51st state.

This meeting could have occurred one month earlier. There was no reason for it take this long. Carney appeared to be completely passive during the meeting.
When the issue of the 51st state was brought up at Tuesday’s meeting, Carney said, “There are some places that are never for sale.” But Canada was never for sale, a point Trump acknowledged during the meeting. “It takes two to tango,” said Trump, and Canada was never going to be a dance partner. “I have a lot of respect for Canada,” said Trump, who may never give up his pipe dream of a united North America, but we are foolish to give it any more credence than that. Yet Carney duped people into buying into the threat, that our very sovereignty was at stake. But it’s not our sovereignty, but our economy we should be worried about, that has always been our weakness. We have lived under the umbrella of the United States for too long, not just militarily, but economically.

People's opinions on what they think they know about everything just make me naseous at this point. | When the conservatives have a 11 year runway, feel free to criticize.
Everyone should be the most critical they’ve EVER been under this regime. They do not deserve “second chances” or time to “work things out” they’ve had more than a decade of that.

I don't agree with your sentiments that Carney accomplished nothing meaningful. The fact that Trump toned down his 51st state rhetoric, as well as dropping the confrontational attitude that he has always shown Turd is already an achievement in and of itself.
Overall, I'd say Carney delivered a passing grade outcome on his meeting with Trump. He scored a few beautiful points, and there were a lot of times when he was too timid / too polite / too hesitant, esp in how he did not, or did not managed to interrupt Trump's BS.
For me, one of the best points that Carney scored was how he was able to tactfully and cleverly diffused the 51st state question. Following right up on Trump's remarks about how he is always a real estate developer at heart, he was able to convincingly borrow the analogy of how the White House or the Buckingham Palace were places that would never be for sale. As soon as he said that, you know exactly what he is gonna say/do next, but there is just no room for Trump to do or say anything other than agree with him. That was very smartly done.
Another beautiful point that I thought he scored was when he made the remark about how Trump was a "transformational leader". On the surface, this might totally seem like a compliment, and my reading of the situation from the televised reporting is, that is exactly how Trump interpreted the statement to mean as well. But as we all know, Carney married a British woman, and spent a good part of his life living in UK. Thus in classic British style, that "transformational leader" comment was actually a backhanded compliment. BBC certainly did not miss this subtle yet obvious jab, and I'm sure anyone who has had some experience in interacting with British people will understand it as well.
I thought Carney also showed how he is not experienced enough as a politician when he gave Trump too much air time to keep spewing his usual nonsense. Perhaps that is his / his team's strategy to not directly irritate or challenge Trump, except on certain super crucial thing like the 51st state BS. We know if the person is skillful enough, interrupting Trump without pissing him off can be done -- Macron has masterfully demonstrated it before. I don't expect Carney to be as smooth a politician as Marcon is, and he doesn't need to be.
You can say that nothing concrete policy-wise has been negotiated and you'd be right. But I think setting a friendly tone between US and Canada, Trump and Carney is an outcome that I would gladly take for now. It leaves the door open for more discussions and negotiations in the future, and I think Carney has every intention to renegotiate our free trade deal with the US ahead of its 2026 review date. Low IQ people believe these guys actually hate each other.
High IQ people know the system has total control and these guys kayfabe for the cameras so Elbows Up boomers & mostly kind-hearted-if-a-bit-igorant progressives keep the establishment in power and the agenda will march on sooooooo smooth... (unless you are on skid row, which in that case, you've been given drugs to hasten your exit from this world in a semi-contained open gulag like the DTES!)
Meanwhile conservatives bigly mad, but playoff hockey sooooooo good... so not really that mad.
Now is the time to make M O N E Y again!

It’s EASY to be a critic and say shit about hypothetical outcomes and what ifs, that exactly what the Cons did for the last 11 years, in fact that’s all they fuckin did and here we are, they’ve got no solutions and no vision for the future because all they know how to be is the “opposition” to everything, regardless if it’s good or bad for Canadians.

The negotiations should have started a month ago and as a result Canada has lost valuable time. There was no reason to delay this until after the election, which ultimately hurts Canada's economy.
I live in the reality where Canada cannot just pivot away from the USA in the short or medium term. Our trade infrastructure is not developed enough to expand trade with Asia or Europe. It takes years to understand local trade regulations, build connections and networks. It doesn't really make too much sense for a Canadian firm to retool for a new market while abandoning an established market they know well.
I was expecting Carney to be far more prepared than he actually was. His comments may have offered you some sort of emotional satisfaction, but it is not an end in and of itself. We should have some sort of willingness to address any legit concerns that come from the USA in order for Canada to drive the negotiations forward.
There are policies like: Digital Services Tax, Online Streaming Act, foreign ownership in Banks that will probably be at the centre of any negotiation. These concerns didn't suddenly appear under Trump, Biden wanted to address it too. Canada could align with OECD frameworks and that would satisfy US concerns without any real downsides for us. We could change banking ownership in Canada to introduce more competition from foreign banks. Canada has room to negotiate to ultimately get rid of the tariffs.

It’s stupid and low IQ. | They’ve had no power at any point, they’ve had virtually no impact in decision making over 2 majority and 1 minority govt. how is that relevant at all? Liberals have had virtually free reign up until this point.
Cross your fingers and hope for the best hasn’t really worked out for us

If they had appeared to be useful or have a vision, perhaps the NDP et al would have aligned with them? They could have gotten stuff done just being reasonable.
But when your entire existence is focused on just saying no to everything put forward then what’s the fuckin point anymore?

PP voted against the environment
Against affordable housing bills
Against pharmacare
Against dental care
Against hot lunches for school kids
Against child care benefits
But fuck yeah he would have saved everything
I just want people to admit now that no matter what carney does, even if it benefits them they will just complain and call it a failure regardless of the outcome because they are so entrenched in identity politics that reality doesn't matter.
