Hearing lots of government workers being let go, laid off. One fellow I know worked at Fisheries for 21 yrs and let go. Other funding cuts affect trickle down employment as well. IT sector, major lay offs at Amazon, EA, etc.
It's actually quite bad out there in terms of people losing work or cannot find work.

^ I used to work at Fisheries too, took a leave when I moved to Calgary since there’s no office here and they wouldn’t let me work remote… haven’t been able to get back on anywhere since, all the layoffs and every time I get close they pull funding on a position.
Also fuck Fisheries that place sucks balls.

It's actually quite bad out there in terms of people losing work or cannot find work. | Yes. The jargon used in the federal government for layoff is "workforce adjustment". WFA
I hear some staff yell out the phrase during coffee breaks when I was working in the office as "WTF WFA!!" https://www.canada.ca/en/government/...c-service.html
This public site shows a detailed breakdown of which government departments are laying off staff.
Some of the departments with the biggest layoffs: ESDC: This is a huge department. -covers units such as Passport Canada, Canada Pension, and Employment Insurance. -highly recommend anyone on RS to get a passport renewal at the local office quickly OR do an online passport renewal.
Natural Resources Canada: Another department which has a big number of layoffs.
Health Canada: Who bloody cares about health in an economic downturn?
Public Services and Procurement Canada: purchasing department, property manager, accountant, and pay administrator for the federal government.
FYI, the site shows the exact number of non management and management staff who are facing layoffs.
Executives are not immune to WFA.
Which department is expanding with a bigger hiring budget? DoD: Department of Defence
-see so many of DoD's commercials to promote the Royal Canadian Armed Forces as an employer.

There's a girl we know who tells guys she won't settle for second best, has high expectations, and works at CRA. I laughed when she said CRA. She was not impressed.

F UUUUUU on all those people who are complaining about lay offs. Yes i said it. Yes it's NEVER good to say good bye at a job. Once the 'golden era' or working in gov't is NEVER and NO LONGER the case.
Come on, let's be real. This is a LIBERAL gov't and Carney is cutting spending and laying off people. This would NEVER happy and he's doing it cause it needs to be done. I rather have Carney doing what's RIGHT than having Pierre WAVING his arms complaining why aren't there cuts yets. PP has NOTHING to stand on right now.
Heck the only reason why Conservatives won was cause Harper did CUT like crazy and yes it's what's needed to be done too.
The NEXT department they need to cut.. is freaking Canada Post. If only Carney has ability to dive in, he woudl have fired the CEO there. Please... do'nt tell me Canada Post is an essential service and it doesn't needs to make a profit.....

Dude has no idea what he’s talking about, Harper era was DRAP deficit reduction action plan and you know what they did? Cut jobs in BC and then handed them to centres in Atlantic Canada to gives people there jobs that didn’t involve fishing and it was a massive failure and still is a massive failure. They didn’t save any money, they spent even more.
I’m okay with Carney cutting stuff here and there but I will disagree with him that he’s doing it the right way, morale has never been lower in the fed system than it is now and all Canadians suffer when everyone is overworked and under appreciated delivering systems that you use every single day of your life whether you’re aware of it or not.
TLDR stay in your lane if you’re gonna complain / call something out without knowing for sure how it all works and basing opinions on heresay.

But then didnt you expect this to happen, they went crazy hiring during covid, hiring doctors to give shots at gyms, how much did that cost, all the vaccines unused, spending stupid money on arrive can when they could have gotten an Indian to do it for citizenship. Ukraine?! They blew so much money on stupid stuff.
Cut spending, increase taxes, increase GDP, print money take your pick.
