So these are the 2 finalists that I'm deciding between:

1) Seagate 6TB USB3 external @ $120
https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...00403/12567166

2) Seagate 5TB USB3 portable external @ $100
https://www.bestbuy.ca/en-ca/product...black/13862227

At $20/TB, these seem to be the cheapest available options I have seen so far. If I go with #1, I'll be ripping the drive out, and plugging it directly into the my tower. If I want portability, I'll go for #2.

I know they are Seagate, and not everyone likes Seagate. I don't totally trust them either, as I have had at least 2 Seagates died on me before. But I've also had most other brands died on me before as well (1 WD, 1 WD refurb, 1 Quantum, 1 IBM, 1 Hitachi, and maybe some that I have forgotten about), so Seagate is pretty much just on par with everyone else. And then I'll have backups as well.

I think that's a 1080P TV.

Why not buy a SSD and then enclose it. Wouldn't that mitigate the risk of a dead hard drive?

sonick 11-28-2019 01:58 PM

Anybody know any good mid-level phone for parent use? Looking to spend ~$200-$300 ideally.

Costco has Moto One Action for $309 that seems solid but might be a bit overkill for my mom.

Amazon has a Moto G7 Power for $250 or so but not sure if that's a good deal for an older, lower spec'd phone.

The first requirement for this purchase is storage capacity, so that rules out SSDs.

Yeah it's not 4k but for a basic tv it might be worth saving the $100 for some.

I think for an easier user experience get them an old iPhone instead. An iPhone 7 is plenty fast and you can get it cheap off Craig’s. Probably less than these newer mid level android devices.

Hondaracer 11-28-2019 04:11 PM

Yea virtually brand new 7 and 7+ were hovering around those prices

BIC_BAWS 11-28-2019 07:19 PM

Morimoto LED foglights at 25% off + free ship (link is to E46 fitment, but you can probably find for many applications)

Schmiedmann has deals on Eisenmann/Supersprint for prices lower than ECS for my euro friends

Do you know what's in side? I bought a Seagate 8tb back in June to replace a ticking Seagate 3tb in my array and it was a 5400RPM drive inside. That's why I'm buying WD's right now, gives me a good mix of drives in a 12 bay array.

I'm going back to Bellingham to snag a couple of 12TB's this weekend, the 10TB's have gone back to regular price... the 12TB's are cheaper... lol

Pretty crazy deals on Sonos stuff which almost never go on sale.

Ended up ordering their amp through the Avion points website but it’s on sale as most places for $630, $150 off.

Same with almost all their products

Might pull the trigger on this

Agreed. 20% Off all SONOS products.

I am going to buy a SONOS Sub tomorrow at Vision.
See if I can negotiate extra couple bucks off.

inv4zn 11-29-2019 10:55 AM

For anyone looking for baby stuff, westcoastkids is having a storewide (in-store only) sale, 15% to 30% off everything, including high end stuff that never goes on sale.

In the spinny hard drive game, there are really only just 3 players left:

- Seagate
- Western Digital
- Toshiba

In terms of reliability, I'd say they are all sufficiently reliability, and any one of them is likely no worse than the other two.

Euro7r 11-29-2019 12:57 PM

I'm still using my 320gb Seagate from 2007. Ran this bad boy day and night on, no issues to this day. I guess best money well spent LOL.

I just bought some Marshall Major III headphones at london drugs for 69.99. It was totally an impulse buy because I never use headphones; I'm an ear bud or speaker guy. I just got nostalgia from the high school days when I used to play electric guitar and Marshall is a huge name in amplifiers and pretty much every rock band like ACDC, Bon Jovi, Guns n roses, Sound Garden, etc, used their amplifiers. All those 80s 90s bands used these amplifiers. I didn't know they made headphones, so I'm excited to try them out.

^ Please do give a review on the MyQ wifi app garage door opener when you have it installed. Looks real practical.

I was also a Nintendo fanboi. I have every one of their consoles and handheld. From the original to the Wii U and Switch. I started my gaming obsession on a Commodore Vic 20 and an Atari, lol. Anyway, jumping ship and looking to get a Playstation. The kids (all but one still living at home) are into the PS platform and there seems to be a shitload of different models and bundles. Which one is the best and where's the best/cheapest place to get one?

I finally decided to get a PS4 as well. I have been using a PS3 for some games and mainly Netflix. I just want to play the two Uncharted games and Last of Us 2 on PS4. This week I bought Uncharted 4 and Uncharted Lost Legacy for $20.

New low price started Friday for 1TB PS4 $249.99 with 3 games and can be bought anywhere. If you are patient the used market will catch up and you can get one for $200.00. Prices on the used market is all over the place. PS5 will be available Dec 2020.
