meme405, hang in there man.. it's tough.
at least you're in an industry that will bounce back and you're hoping when the surge of work comes back....

I'm unemployed (territory sales), and now with summer ending, hopefully people will be back to hiring soon. My EI is going to end soon; honestly, yes I enjoy earning money, but I enjoy having purpose which I'm not getting doing jackshit at home.

Just gotta keep your head up high and find a hobby. On the pro side, i lost 20+ lbs cause of outdoor activities so i am seeing this as the most weight lost program to date.

my shop can't hire people because of the bloody CERB

more inventory, more hours

people gotta eat :fuckyea:

twitchyzero 08-17-2020 10:10 AM

are events in 2nd tier chinese cities usually that packed?

or just more so because people have been pent up staying home for so long like that huashan photo few months ago?

Even without coronavirus that pool party looks terrible, that's gonna be at least 50% piss by the end.

What are your thoughts on this new policy for masks in schools? Does it go far enough in terms of mask use for students and school staff?

https://www.citynews1130.com/2020/08...ry-bc-schools/

Anyone working in a B.C. school will be required to wear a mask in ‘high traffic areas’ like in hallways or on buses. The province has also announced masks will be required for students at middle and high schools in circumstances where maintaining physical distance is impossible. Exceptions for those who can’t wear a mask due to a medical condition will be made.

Jmac 08-17-2020 01:20 PM

I just don’t see how they’re going to pull off hundreds of students in a school with presumably mostly-full classrooms simultaneously without outbreaks even if everyone is masked.

320icar 08-17-2020 01:28 PM

@pastarocket make them 100% mandatory at all times other than eating. Why the fuck not???

68style 08-17-2020 01:45 PM

You know, there's such a small pool of people who post on RS actively these days... we could all help each other out somehow if it came down to it... posting jobs or trends you see coming up or, if you run a business, hire people you know / trust the posts or opinions of on here or found like-minded interests with if they're out of work.

There's definitely people on here even though I don't know them on a personal level I would almost hire sight unseen if I had a business.

Another 200+ cases over the weekend

Jmac 08-17-2020 02:27 PM

None of the teachers I know have any idea what their district's plan is. At what point do they shut down the school? When one student tests positive? When a teacher tests positive? When there's an actual outbreak? Nobody knows!

twitchyzero 08-17-2020 03:43 PM

once our cases/deaths per capita rate becomes comparable to US west coast and arionza, reopen the border?

I have a spread sheet applying for jobs.. right now it's totally an employer's market.. so many people are applying it's not even funny.

As for schools, most teachers are on vacation right now; the district / school boards are doing the best they can to think of something efficient. There will never be a PERFECT solution; they are trying to do a sector of 100 students per day so if they had to isolate, it would only be the 100.

Van Sun did an article few days ago; they grade 12 / fresh grads are going to have a SHITTY time. Already out of school for 3 months, no summer and now going to SFU / UBC hoping to have a new community.. BAM.. game over.

You thought university was hard... zoom study group and then learning Phil 101, Econ 105, doing exams... dangggg.

Profs are now going to have to provide 4 versions of exams to prevent from cheating and ALSO have student explain certain mathematical on how they get to the answer is the new norm. Props to you all teachers.

Those who are trying to take a yr off to travel... well you just got butt fooked cause now you're too late into getting into university or travel. Those who are foreign exchange... well... you're paying 3X and stuff doing zoom.

Lastly, BC has a weird law (from what i heard from Trinity), you can't graduate your degree with all your courses being taken online (... or else it'll be university of Phoenix ahhhhaah)....

Washington has approximately 50x the active cases of BC per capita, so I wouldn't go that far. It's pretty fucking bad though, and it's only going to get worse.

JDMDreams 08-17-2020 04:44 PM

Called it. Even Walmart has mandatory face masks but bc won't implement it?

Usually working in remote areas. 12 hour days are the norm for 3+ weeks at a time. I obviously average far more than 12 hours a day, and my time off rotation is usually spent working on side jobs/other projects, or supporting the project from off-site.

When you can commit to work being pretty much the only thing in your life, you can do quite a bit, no wife/kids makes it pretty easy in all honesty.

Thanks man, i do wish I'd used this time a little more proactively on the fitness side, I dont know why in that one area I am so lazy.

in terms of potential spread washington state reported 576 new cases this weekend (they have 50% more residents)

if there's no change in policy and people continue gathering, im afraid we'll surpass them sooner than later then we cant gloat about how we have the better healthcare and compliance from the public :alone:

SkinnyPupp 08-17-2020 05:25 PM

CFL cancels 2020 season. Just yesterday I was wondering if they'd to this

Pretty sad, even though I stopped following. If they come back I think they should revamp and use NFL or XFL rules. CFL's audience is getting older and older, and eventually will just go away if they don't appeal to the same people who become NFL fans

Washington reported 4646 cases in the last 7 days, and 758 cases on august 16th alone, so not sure where the discrepancy comes from. Again, I'm not trying to downplay how shitty we are doing now, just stating America is terrible. We shouldn't use the worst developed country as the benchmark for comparison regardless.
I will say, my friends I follow on ig in Washington for the most part, aren't doing fuck all, then again, most of the people I see on ig in BC aren't either.

underscore 08-17-2020 07:12 PM

Where are you guys getting the case count for the weekend? I've been following this site and I knew it didn't update on the weekends but I thought they just combined them with the Monday numbers (apparently I'm wrong).

any local news site around 3-4PM every weekday. Or reddit vancouver subforum.

Let’s just say the smart play for everyone would be to stock up on pantry staples and other household items before school starts.

Thousands of kids back in school + colder weather/flu season = most likely GG

StylinRed 08-17-2020 09:54 PM

^^^ actually considering flying out for our fall winter, but don't know if there's a better option really, cuz I'm thinking it'll get bad in China again by then too
