You mean shoppers in HMart in PoCo don't wear a mask? Or the people in car meets there don't wear a mask?

The shoppers are about 75% who do but on meet nights most the shoppers are meet attendees who don't wear masks, on those nights you'll only really see the employees wearing masks and maybe 10% shoppers, I just avoid hmart on those nights

Probably worth mentioning that while cases have increased, especially in B.C., the death rate has been virtually non existent across Canada for over a month now.
A lot of countries are experiencing the same. Increasing case loads, decreasing/very low death rates.

dark0821 08-30-2020 07:30 PM

now its the internet, and I dont want to say I've read anything from creditble source...

But, from what I understand. Even if you are asymptomatic or... you do get mild symptoms.... the damage to your lung is permanent. It might not matter to you now, but it might be the difference between living to 90 to 95?

Or people who recover still are not able to perform the same physical tasks as before the virus?

underscore 08-30-2020 07:52 PM

I'm curious what the stats are on the long term damage, though it seems like right now nobody is tracking it here. I've got a family member that was suspected to have it back in Mar/Apr that couldn't get tested and who can still feel the difference in their breathing now.

Personally think its because all the high risk individuals are staying home or taking extra precautions to avoid getting sick at this point. (No more huge outbreaks of elderly dying off at this point).

Most of the new cases are younger individuals, who arent likely to die from the virus.. hence the higher infection rate and lower deaths.

That being said, I think its stupid how some people are saying. "See! The virus aint that deadly after all. Its all a hoax..." Ive bumped into a few people who believe its not that far off from a regular flue.. it really blows my mind how they can even think that lol

SkinnyPupp 08-30-2020 08:41 PM

It's true that treatment has improved and there are fewer deaths now, and mostly at-risk people

It's also likely that there may be lasting effects even if you don't get a lot of symptoms

The most important thing hasn't changed though, and that's the ability for a full breakout to completely overwhelm hospitals, leading to catastrophe. That's why we can't just dismiss lower death rates and low symptoms for healthy people.

Jmac 08-30-2020 10:16 PM

Pretty much any Class A hospital will run out of oxygen capacity before they run out of beds. The diversity factor isn’t set up for a massive influx of people requiring 24/7 oxygen.

Don't think we'll see any sort of "lockdown" unless the numbers are astronomical.

Economy > *

Not just the economy, just heard on Bloomberg this morning that because of the economic shutdown, millions of people have been pushed into poverty. That plus the disruption in food supply, more people are on track to die of starvation than the virus.

StylinRed 08-31-2020 02:26 PM

294 new cases n 4 deaths over the weekend

tegra7 09-01-2020 09:50 AM

Has anyone on here tested positive?

HonestTea 09-01-2020 10:12 AM

Labour Day is gonna be intense, especially in Whistler. Diamond Rally's happening at the same time too.

Obsideon 09-01-2020 04:25 PM

I talked to a few parents and it looks like when school gets into full swing shit is REALLY gonna hit the fan and then some. None of the kids will be keeping masks on.
I heard at some schools, by recess the entire playground was littered with masks.

westopher 09-01-2020 08:39 PM

"gatherings will be limited to 50 or under unless your net worth exceeds $5000000 or it at least looks like it does on instagram."

Split into multiple run groups, with multiple routes and destinations, All obeying the 50 person limit.

westopher 09-02-2020 10:13 AM

That’s good to hear they are doing things to mitigate the number of people in one place at a time.

Mr. HappySilps was suspected at least (not sure if confirmed? Told to quarantine for 14 days, anyways) and I think I saw one other member tested positive I believe.

Thoughts from a 1st Grade Teacher in Vancouver

This sounds terrifying.

tl;dr
  1. We literally receive information about the back-to-school plan from Rob Fleming's press releases, or from the news.
  2. Our classrooms are not safe, and no steps have been taken to change this.
  3. We have been asked to make something from nothing.
  4. We were informed just yesterday that we will likely be responsible for both sides of the hybrid model.
  5. We are sick of the gaslighting. The government should be honest about the fact that they have decided that keeping students home and the economy closed is more detrimental than the possibility that some students, families and teachers will get sick, and some may even die.
  6. Considerable money has been pledged to make schools safer, but most of it is as-yet unallocated.
  7. We love our students and we are scared.

68style 09-02-2020 12:05 PM

My sister sent me the package for Richmond she got from the school, it’s insanely comprehensive and 40+ pages long.... so I’m not buying that supposed teachers post unless Richmond is just somehow light years ahead of Vancouver on this
