You can watch it here, not sure why it's not on the CBC website. Maybe because they're going to rerun it at night?

That pictogram was the highlight for me great job

Gawd, what’s with announcers. The pronunciation of the Japanese language is pretty simple. There’s five basic vowel sounds. Ten consonants in front of those vowel sounds. That’s it. There is no Long A sound, for example. Okay, there’s one more sound the un as in Kim Jun Un (n) sound.

Te, as in ten. Ri as in Lee (okay, that’s a hard one to get right. It’s between really and leeley). Ya, as in yeah. Ki, as in key. Teriyaki. Not teriyaki as in yakity yak.

I explain it to so many people and they get it right pretty quick.

I genuinely feel bad for japan taking that big of an economic hit

Same especially since I was there in Dec 2019-Jan 2020 and it was popping. People were already talking about being hyped. Olympic swag everywhere and then this.

I hope they open up the online store again. I wouldn't mind paying double of the usual price to support the games.

Hondaracer 07-24-2021 08:26 AM

Read a WSJ article last night

London was by far the most expensive games at 11 bn

By the time the Tokyo games are done they are expected to have cost 20..

Vancouver on the other hand was one of the least expensive in recent times and also had some of the smallest cost overruns. Although it is cheaper to host winter than summer

JDMDreams 07-24-2021 01:19 PM

^^ I thought it would be China as most expensive

We all know the CCP will never disclose the real cost, just like they will never disclose about their Covid numbers

Gumby 07-24-2021 02:37 PM

Well, we know the CCP likes to boast...

China complaining about "ugly" pictures of their athletes being used, saying western media is "ideologically biased" for using these photos.

Anyone who has lifted weights knows - there's no way your face looks good when doing it. So they are calling their own athletes "ugly" despite them winning gold medals for their country.

-pretty petty of the Chinese government if you ask me. Would their propaganda machine just want their athletes to win as many Olympic medals, especially gold medals, in order to make their country look good?

Who really cares what how attractive their athletes look? This is amateur sport competition at the international level, not the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue or a beauty pageant! LUL

Hondaracer 07-25-2021 09:56 AM

Gross country continues to be gross?

Man the woman’s cycling race was crazy, the champ from Netherlands didn’t know there was anyone in front of her as they can’t use radios in the Olympics so she went buck to pull away from the peloton in the last km or so but the Austrian had already crossed the line, very entertaining

I watched this race and I’ve been trying to understand how big of an upset this is. Apparently other cyclists in the peloton knew but didn’t say anything lol. Others are saying that this is like the best cyclist on earth being beat by a part time amateur. This is why I watch the Olympics… to see these incredible stories take place.

Teriyaki 07-25-2021 04:56 PM

The mens triathlon was beast. I knew it was grueling but just found out the runners pace around 30 minutes for the final 10k run, AFTER the swim and the bike rice. Can barely keep a 30 minute pace for 5 k alone. Truly astounding what they're able to do. Finish was pretty good too with the lone pull-away.

You’d think a team like the Netherlands would have people in those support cars who are letting them know Somone is ahead

But the way that Van Vleuven or whatever her name is celebrated it sure seemed like she thought she had won

pastarocket 07-25-2021 06:25 PM

Margaret Mac Neil wins Canada's first gold medal in the 100 metre butterfly swimming event! Go Marge!

-strong finish on her second lap of butterfly helped her win Canada's first gold. 55.59 seconds.

Does the chinese government even know how pathetic they look in the eyes of everybody else on this planet?

They are so concerned about how they are perceived by the rest of the world, yet they fail time and time again. No respect.
