Why are certain ethnicities naturally better at certain sports? Watching the 100m ladies and no surprise, all the top performers are African/black. Same observation with men.

Why are there hardly any black/African swimmers?

Is it something about their particular physiques?

running requires nothing; you can practice anywhere

sports like swimming, tennis, rowing, etc. require facilities and equipment, which is $$$

I read a book once that went into detail about the science between different ethnicities. It also dabbled into some theory.

I’ll probably get this completely wrong, but regarding African ethnicities, the slave trade had apparently a lot to do with the evolution of some of these groups. Travelling across the world in awful conditions, only the strong survived. Then bread over and over again creating the best of the best of the gene pool. I really wish I remember the book. It was incredibly interesting and went into the science of fast twitch muscle fibres and why some areas had more of said fibres then others. I never did research any of it, but it was super interesting none the less.

Edit: it was called “The Sport Gene” by David Epstein.

Normally when olypmics are on I'll catch them on tv, they'll be pretty easy to find surfing the channels. Maybe the time difference and I haven't went out of my way to look for then but I haven't seen one Olympic event or even highlight. Are they on in the middle of the night?

The start of the womens gold medal soccer game has been changed to a more decent time at the request from both teams..... to avoid scorching heat.

GOLD!!!!!!

Unconventional training leads to gold

After Western University, where the 31-year-old had been training, shuttered its facilities because of COVID-19, Warner was without a home only nine months before Tokyo.

His coach eventually made an arrangement with the City of London for Warner to continue training at the city's nearly 70-year-old Farquharson Arena.

There, his coach fashioned a makeshift pole vault area, brought in the necessary pads for high jump and cobbled together a ring of discus and javelin.

The arena was 55 metres long, meaning Warner could only run full speed for 40.

"I think that to be a good decathlete, you have to be adaptable because the only certain thing that there is going into a decathlon is that something's going to go wrong," Warner told CBC Sports.

In Tokyo, Warner could do no wrong. Everything he touched turned to gold.
