So happy for Messi. He’s a legend and totally deserved this.

Argentina carried the balance of play over 90 minutes, so they deserved to win the game. Messi now can join Maradona and Pele as one of the all time greats.

One of the best final games of all time.

Watching in this bar in Lisbon this French fan got up and left when it was 2-0 and drug his wife out with him, then they watched it go from 2-1 to 2-2 as they were walking back passed, and then he left when Messi scored in extra time before France tied it up

You never leave until the end.

Congratulations to Argentina. I always rooted for that team, even as a kid. I thought they are getting tired near the end of the 2nd half but no, they came through until the very end.

I hope whoever wrote THIS article feels even more stupid now {I didn't bother looking at the author's name).

And I hope France neighbourhoods are okay. Lots of riots going on there lately...

Ouch that article was ripped apart in the comments due to its incorrect facts n figures and missing details, yikes. Washington Post updated the article but still, ouch

As controversial as the the tournament was, I'd also have to say it is likely the most intense and captivating World Cup I have ever watched.

Competitions in lots of groups were tight and went right down to the final matches. Upsets of tournament favourites and the fighting spirits from many other teams were sensational, and I personally thought there were a lot of big moments for a lot of the participating teams and players.

Every game from the quarter finals and up were intense, with of course the highlight being the championship game.

It would have been the perfect fairy tale ending had the Mbappe PK not taken place, but I'm sure Messi didn't mind it one bit, given how things have turned out. Mbappe won the golden boot as the "consolation prize", but I can't imagine how he must have felt winning it...

It must have been extra emotional for Montiel (from Argentina) to score the tournament-ending PK since he was the one that "gave" the PK to Mbappe. The Argentine keeper, Martínez, deserved as much, if not more, credit than Messi to help Argentina win this game, and I thought it would have been more deserving to have him win the player of the match title, while Messi takes the tournament MVP title.

But I don't think any of the Argentine players care about any of that. They won the World Cup, and that's all that matters.

Congrats to Messi and Argentina for winning this.

Just watched the highlights .. wow, intense. Yah, BS penalty kick in regulation time on that 3rd goal for France. Lots of chances in OT for France .. that one save by Argentina's goalie in OT2 ...wow! Guess that's what you want, an exciting final!

Argentina can thank Budweiser, and Qatar's strict laws on alcohol consumption, for shipments of free crappy beer to them as the World Cup winner. LUL
