I am profoundly sad that Queen Elizabeth has died. As someone hailing from Hong Kong, the Queen represented an era where Hong Kong was at its finest.
While Charles will ascend to the throne very soon, I honestly wonder how long he will remain there. As I understand it, he is not especially popular among Britons to put it mildly, but William & Kate are the new Royal darlings. I know that if I were Charles, I would only want to hang on to the throne for as short a time as possible, and pass it on to William as soon as he is ready / willing to do so.

Don't hate the player, hate the game. Elizabeth wasn't the coloniser but she inherited a lot of the benefits and while she didn't renounce all of those benefits she certainly didn't impede progress and generally made progress especially considering that she never truly had any real power - her power was all of gentle influence.
Her life is one that very few of us could have lived or imagined - she was a mechanic during WWII!
I'll miss her.

First of all... RIP to the Queen. She was truly an inspiring figure in many aspects and one of the many things I took to heart when I became a Canadian citizen.
Now, I think for all the people who hate the Queen in this thread... seriously... STFU and go.
You might not agree with what she has done in the nearly 100yrs of her life and the 70yrs in reign as Queen, she has just passed away and I think it's the least of human decency to have a little respect for someone who just passed away.
Regarding what she could have or hasn't done, who are we to judge? For godsake... you aren't even a semen by the time those decisions were made. And take a more positive view in your fucking life. The claim that she did shit about colonialism doesn't hold a candle. She was THE monarch who oversaw the de-colonization. Could she have done better? Perhaps... based on all the values that humans only evolved to learn long after. Focus on the things she did FOR humanity instead of holding a grudge for things she did against.
Let me put it this way if we had a time machine and go back to the early years of say... US independence... and you shout end of slavery for freedom and human rights, you'd be hung for conspiracy to sedition and interfering with other people's property. Your ideology now is "right" based on the collective wisdom and development of the human race throughout time, and not because it was right.
She did what she knew back then. To be judging her for something she did long ago based on today's values is wrong and especially today, which is the day she passed.
You want to discuss about what she did, whether right or wrong, I think you can create another thread at another time. But to come in, and post here on the day of her passing just show the level of human decency you have. Even Trump had the decency to remark on the great achievement that Justice Ginsburgh accomplished upon learning of her passing. And they were in the opposite of ideologies.

Sure there were skeletons in the closet or dirt under the rug but what country or politician doesn't? Just look at the trump shit show in the States. She ruled for 70 years, longer than some people's lives and she was still able to keep the royal image and keep up with the times without pissing it away in embarrassment in the cancel culture we have now. Everyone is a snowflake now.
If they didn't colonize Canada, nothing now would have existed. This might be a French country? You prattle on from your ivory tower up there. You and so many living in the upper tiers of society brought on by social and economic wealth, thanks to opportunities presented to your family who then came here to have a better life and pursue the western dream (funny how the UK is as western as Canada / US are). People paved the way for their children who then paved the way for their children, kind of like how your family migrated here so you can have a safe prosperous life. It takes generations for a family to come from nothing and have everything. It takes sacrifice and motivation to bloom and show the world your potential.
But people like you will never be happy. You thrive on hate and you enjoy just being negative. For someone in your position in life, there's more to be grateful for instead of castrating others for their connection to someone / something that resonates with them, personally. You post your nonsensical articles and random 3rd rate tweets just to support your view but it all comes across as sanctimonious drivel that becomes inane.
Grow up already. History is mired in darkness but without the darkness, there's no light to shine through and help evolve our species. Slavery still exists but it was banned in many countries too. Why not help end slavery in the countries that still practice it?

Did Manic just morph into CiC? That's an incredible level of hate.
I don't hold any positive or negative feelings towards her or the royalty. Even though I'm from HK I was too young to know or feel her influence there. I would say the British gov't made a bigger influence than anything in the time I've been alive. Although I agree colonialism was a dark time in human history, the British laws lay the foundation of order in many places in the world and our way of life right now is shaped by that.
Now I'm just curious what happens to our monies. She's been queen the whole time I've been alive and I am used to seeing her face on my monies.

Without the monarchy, or if we had split from the monarchy far earlier like we should have we’d likely he a more independent state like the US is rather than riding the coat tails of some archaic system.
Again, people rail on about trump this trump that and spend all this energy on worrying about whether he is in jail or what’s in his home. The queen was a wayyyyy worse in terms of the power her influence had and turning a blind eye to events the monarchy had a direct impact on.
The monarchy as a whole is directly tied to Protestant beliefs. The whole reason for the monarchy is they are ordained by god for the lowly peasants to have somthing to look up to so their measly lives have some meaning lol, this is literally the reasoning for the monarchy.
With that said, virtually any conflict based in religion ie. the Irish troubles, is very much on the monarchy. A 30+ year ethnic war.
