There's no next year for DeSmith... he's UFA in July. Silovs 100% is the backup next year... Silovs is also a RFA, but he will certainly be cheaper than DeSmith's $1.8M... nevermind DeSmith will for sure want more than 1.8, he proved he can be a 1A goalie this year. Not a full-time 60 game starter I think, but a very viable 30-40 game guy. |
Watch Oilers sign Desmith after either losing to Canucks or Dallas. DeSmith + Pickard is better than Skinner + Pickard? Or Campbell + Skinner? |
Silov can demand more when it's time ... he's auditioning for his next big contract. |
Tocchet seems to be hinting at a Demko return, saying he has "improved immensely over the past 72 hours" :considered: Not that Silovs had anything to do with the loss yesterday. It was his best game yet, although there are still a lot of weird communication issues with him and the defensemen when it comes to how to handle the puck in front of and behind the net. |
I like to think that the Canucks play more aggressively with Demko in net, but realistically we will play Silovs tomorrow. Goaltending isn't really our issue right now. Better to rest Demko more so he doesn't reaggrevate his injury. Can't win many games hitting the net less than 20 times. |
It almost doesn't matter how good Silovs is, you still go to an available Demko if there's an available Demko... nobody can ever question that move and you're bulletproof as the coach making that call whether the team wins or loses because it's the only salient choice if presented with one. Demko is much less exciting to watch, but that's a good thing. Silovs is getting there but he's still young and learning Clark's methods. |

If Demko is ready you almost want to put him in ASAP now no? Putting Silovs in you risk losing and then you're throwing Demko in on a possible elimination game as his first game back which isn't ideal. This is of course if he's actually ready to go... |
It's a tough decision because Demko would be coming in rusty, it takes a few games to get your timing back, games of which we don't have. On the other hand, Silov has been playing great and he's in the groove right now. Very tough decision to make. I'd have Silov start, but put him on a short leash, if there's any fuckery afoot you put in Demko and keep him there for the rest of the series. |
I think bottom line is we can't lose this series with a healthy Demko on the bench, so whichever way they decide to go about that is up to them but I'd rather it not be game 7 when he hasn't played since game one of the first round |
They aren’t going to play Demko, at least starting him at any point. These cross crease passes the oilers thrive on on the PP are prime to blow out his knee permanently |
Would've thought the Game 6 viewing party tickets would've been on sale by now. |

I'd post that south park meme here but i'll let Razor Ramon do the memeing HAH |
Gosh, this was so hard to watch, he does terrible pressers ... absolutely terrible! |
they can't afford to not play him, so it feels like this was his punishment. make him answer the hard questions and hopefully light a fire under his ass. "if you don't want to put up with this shit, then do better" |

He's getting traded before the NMC kicks in. |

Head of PR is in full damage control after that one, almost couldn't have gone worse. |

If this was at work and I put him in that spot to take on some accountability in front of his team or the company I would be pissed at how he decided to show up. |
It couldve gone worse..... "my contract sucks" |

He sounds like a big baby that was told to answer the media and so he did the bare minimum to show how butthurt he is about it |
Not sure if this is proper place but related. Not much details so assuming some sort of illness, cancer. Found a clip of him speaking about it personally on air, it was prostate cancer. Good man. https://www.ctvnews.ca/sports/vetera...died-1.6889526 |
sadly he passed away from Prostate cancer, it's such a preventable and treatable cancer. It's so important we all get checked since if its not caught in time it will kill us. |
