I'm not wealthy enough to treat my car like a beater, but I'll put the time and money in to make sure it stays nice. I like working on it and cleaning it, so I just make sure the wear and tear gets taken care of.
I'll always say the guy that drove their car and enjoyed it got to enjoy the value in the car a lot more than the guy that makes 20-30k for having it sit for 7 years.

SSM_DC5 12-10-2024 08:23 AM

What if making 20-30k while going to cars and coffee on the weekends to talk other owners brings them enjoyment? Would that still be acceptable to you?

Dbone 12-10-2024 08:35 AM

Not sure I could live with a diaper on my car.

AstulzerRZD 12-10-2024 08:38 AM

It wouldn't be my cup of tea, but in that case, at least the owner is doing something with it that he enjoys.

I still think cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed on the road, but as long as it is being utlized, you're getting value out of the ownership.

Of course, I should probably listen to my own advice as well, because I also let my fun car sit far too often. :(

People can do whatever the fuck they want with their cars. It's theirs to use, I don't really care. But it's not enough money to matter.
If the driver is money, they don't understand the costs of maintaining a car, insuring it, and it taking up a garage spot negates their profits unless it's on like 10 cars and they are already rich.
Nowhere did I say it's "unacceptable." Lol

AstulzerRZD 12-10-2024 10:00 AM

Yeah it's a bit crazy cuz the car bumper will get used as a bumper
but it also means you're wealthy enough where the car is kinda disposable / live in lower manhattan with a vacation home and can afford insurance.

OTOH, a flashy modded modern BMW is giving Long Island / South Brooklyn bro .. think Surrey bro.

If the driver is money you're better off just renting out the garage space to someone else and not dealing with the hassle of all the other stuff lol.

Cars are so cheap in the USA. i recall seeing a bentley continental lease deal for 1800 a month with something ridiculous like 10k down.

If you made the same amount of money in canada vs the states, you could easily buy a much more expensive car in the states.

trollface 12-10-2024 12:31 PM

Could have two GTIs

You're right, you didn't use the word unacceptable nor any variation of the word accept, but if you follow your own thoughts of "People can do whatever the fuck they want with their cars. It's theirs to use, I don't really care." then why even always have a saying regarding the level of enjoyment an owner has with their car is based on how it is used. Enjoyment in something like a car is so subjective that your way of enjoying, which is to put as many miles on it as possible, is not the only way to enjoy.

Because I replied to someone that said "that's why you should drive a beater"
Go drive your car cause it seems you took it as being aimed at you.
And yeah, the person that uses their car still enjoys it more (objectively, because more time spent being enjoyed means more enjoyment) than the guy that doesn't use it.

A friend sent me an EQS sedan lease with $0 down for $300+tax (for 24mo I think). I'm not a fan of the EQS, but that's a lot of car for the monthly payment. Can the car be that bad that no one wants them at those prices?

looks like a 9th gen civic in person, designer needs a new job.

fwiw it's a killer road tripper - dope massaging seats, charges 60% faster than Tesla, eyes off self driving in Cali and crazy real world range (640km).

JDMDreams 12-10-2024 02:47 PM

Is that $300 USD? Or our garbage rupees? If it's $300 rupees then it's really a good deal. But then I still see them ask over $100k on fb so I'm not sure how they can work the math to lease for $300. I also heard USA has $48 month leases for the new Fiat 500e.

bcrdukes 12-10-2024 03:48 PM

How and what is this Mercedes Benz charging network in the US? I saw one randomly at the Buc'ee's gas station in Richmond, KY earlier this year. It was funny because it was empty/unused while 100+ fuel pumps were pretty much running full capacity. :D

Damn, if that was actually in Canada I'd actually jump on that. My gas bill for my commute would cover half of that, lol.

Yeah you ever see the prices (lease deals) that AstulzerRZD quotes?
