And anyone who uses the cliche, 'only 1 team gets to hoist the Cup' doesn't get it. You cannot lose 5-0 and 6-1 in game 5 and 7 at home. It's a lack of effort and heart, it's psychological, it's team chemistry. They don't have the right kind of playoff players period. If you lost game 5, 2-0 and game 7, 3-2 in OT ... maybe you can say that, 'they are a good team, they played their hearts out, blah blah blah.' This team had to get past round 2 in order to consider any improvement from last yeat. So many calls in the past to blow this core up, if they don't this time, NHL should really take this franchise away from the owners. They are incompetent if they don't clean house starting with Shanahan.
Sounds familiar................ 'cept the Canucks can't even make it into the post season, gulololololol, which I suppose, is a blessing in disguise. Can't be disappointed if there's nothing to be disappointed about.

Since 1990 the Canucks have been to the finals twice whereas the leafs haven’t been past
The conference finals and only made it there twice in those years?

I didn't watch his interview but I think fans' main gripe is that as the captain, he didn't take any ownership for the loss. Had he said something along the lines of "it starts with me" and then added the too many passengers comment it would have come across better.
Either way, it was basically a complete collapse from top to bottom other than Domi scoring the lone goal. Woll did all he could to keep them in it but once that 4th goal went in, you knew it wasn't going to happen. Whole team slouched.

I really don't know if those are great metrics to be used for comparison. At the end of the day, no cups won despite making it to the finals.
With all the playoff choking the Leafs have had over the past decade, it made me realize they've been in the playoffs for 9 consecutive seasons (debatable if 2020 counted). I wish I knew how that felt like as a Canuck fan. I don't think Vancouver has ever been in the playoffs for 9 consecutive seasons in their franchise.
I look back and miss the WCE and Sedins era, when we took playoff and divisional champs for granted. Yeah, we sucked most of the time in the playoffs and got bounced in 1 or 2 rounds, but at least every season, it felt like there was a chance, something to look forward to. Can't say it's been the same for this past decade.
Those were frustrating times to keep getting eliminated in the playoffs year after year... but I think we have forgotten how low our bar has become now. We're just happy to even get into the playoffs now.

They've been talking about planning their parade since 2018 lol. I think it's way more mentally damaging to see a team that should go far, fail NINE consecutive times in spectacularly embarrassing fashion.

This right there is why Leafs Nation is depressed ... again. While making it into the playoffs every year for a decade is something to be admired ... losing in round 1 and not making it pass round 2 is extremely frustrating. Not unreasonable to expect that a team that makes it every year should go further ... at least into Conference final.
The thing is, this Leafs Nation fan base is so loyal (and so stupidly annoying) that all this Leafs team had to do was to advance to Conference finals ... they didn't even need to get to SCF or even win the Cup for them to be happy. Had they advanced past Florida and lost in the next round, Shanahan would get up there afterwards and say, 'Oh well, we made progress, let's run it back, keep it together, try again.'
Maple laughs are built like an NBA team. You only need a couple great guys to win a championship. Not in the NHL. You need a team effort, you need grit, you need to battle. None of the core 4 guys battle.
After the top four guys, the next forward is Domi at $3.75M and then drops to 1M. And let's be honest, the depth guys played way better than the core 4 in game 7. Marner yelling at his team to "wake the F up" is a joke.
Almost 50 million for 4 guys and zeroooo points in game 7. The dude that makes peanuts had to score is just embarrassing.
Kyle dubas, Sheldon Keefe were not the problems. Even Berube couldn't do anything for a game 7 dumpster fire.

I guess it's different for me. I might be beyond mentally damaged that I honestly don't really get much satisfaction from even watching regular season games anymore. Even last season when they were doing well, I barely watched any reg season games. I've been following this team too long (30+ years) to really care about regular season success, it's cup or bust.
The thing that actually gets me excited is when they actually do make it into the playoffs, because that means there's a chance.
I'm not saying watching your team lose year after year is fun, but being checked out by mid season as a Canuck fan isn't really great either and the only reason it is less mentally damaging is because the team can't even make it in the playoffs in the first place.

for sure we have our trauma lol, that's valid. i just think leafs fans have it worse than us by a country mile.
side note: i just saw a clip of nylander doing a total fly by of the puck in the offensive zone last night just to get to the bench. zero battle. he's supposed to be the one who can handle the pressure too. ouch.
-Toch leaving was the best decision for himself, no further explanation
-Toch believes Petey will have a bounce back year
-Toch clarifies what he meant by "reprogramming" cause fans freaked out by his comment. Petey wants to slow down the game, needs to attack, learn from McDavid
-Toch says practice in UBC is no big deal
-Toch believes that ownership is sparing no expense to win
Good guy Toch giving everyone some closure and a vote of confidence to Petey/team

They were talking on the radio today about the Canadian teams that have been to the finals since the habs won the cup last and basically came to the conclusion the only teams that had a legitimate chance were the 2011 Canucks and last years oilers.
The sens run, and oilers run were both “fairy tale” seasons with teams that ultimately came against teams that were infinitely better and deserved the win. Most people probably won’t remember but that Sens Ducks series, the ducks absolutely destroyed the senators.
So yea I guess it’s kinda like.. where do you want your heart broken? lol I think as a Canucks fan I’m more satisfied with their trips to the finals than I would be a leafs fan who’s barely has seen conference finals
It just goes to show how hard it is to even make it there

Funny to see Marchard get tossed out ... not sure why. Panthers player Gostisbehere shot a puck right at him, Marchand retaliated and went after him ... maybe a 2 mins for that but an ejection? Nothin burger cuz the Panthers won but c'mon Carolina, shake that rust off and do the NHL a favour and eliminate them!!!
Watching McDavid play the Stars so far has been like a man among children. Even shorthanded! He has just taken over already, setting up Drai for the opener
