100 percent. GM Stan Bowman and company never looked for a championship-calibre goalie for their Coilers.

Nurse is way overpaid. -A few extra million bucks to sign a goalie free agent would strengthen Edmonton's defence.

This Stanley Cup Final is another prime example of defence winning championships. Bobrovsky outplayed Skinner.

Eckblad and Forsling played a physical game against McDavid.

Offence and goals sells tickets in the regular season. Defence wins Stanley Cups for teams.

The Oilers learned in a painful way in back to back Cup Finals how inadequate their goaltending and defence is compared to Florida.

whitev70r 06-18-2025 07:46 AM

I thought the story was that the Oilers strengthened their D by a lot .. Walman, I don't know who else they picked up. Ultimately, it was the goaltending. Some will say, 'goalie can't score', 'gotta put more into the net' but the goalies can be a huge factor in game dynamic with a timely save. And when the team is always down 2-3 goals after the first period, the team has to chase the game and play another way. Coach K said that it forced them to play McDavid and Draisaitl on the same line more than he wanted to. So you now have one top line to defend.

That Hyman injury really fucked over the Oilers too, but they really need to get better goaltending by next season.

Demko trade? :lol

The problem is that they have nothing to trade. We don't need their low 1st round picks, we need NHL players. But half their team has NMC and NTC, a third of the team is UFA in a few days, and half the team is UFA the next summer. Only 8 players are signed beyond next season, lol.

It'll be interesting to see what McDavid does this offseason, whether he signs an extension or not before heading into the final year of his contract. Watching his post game interview yesterday, it was void of emotions, as if it was just any other game. Think the guy needs a change in scenery, maybe Vancouver.

68style 06-18-2025 01:13 PM

Haha like hell McDavid would ever in a million years consider going to Van

teggy604 06-18-2025 02:29 PM

Mc David to Dallas or Carolina next year to compete for the cup?

westopher 06-18-2025 04:51 PM

My brother in Christ these teams beat both those teams.

Edmonton didn't even show up for the last 2 games.

Hondaracer 06-19-2025 08:56 AM

That has nothing to do with heart or “no shows”

They went to back to back finals on the backs of two players. Eventually you can’t overcome aspects of the opponent, that’s sports.

whitev70r 06-19-2025 09:24 AM

oh, the hero of game 6, Reinhart is from West Van ... guess the Cup is coming to Vancouver afterall.

Coilers lost to a team that played better as a team. Panthers top players outplayed the Coilers' best players when it matters the most. Plain and simple.

Bennett, Tkachuk, Reinhart, Marchand, Bobrovsky. All these players played very well.

It's not all about heart. The Panthers executed Coach Maurice's game plan to a T with their aggressive forechecking system. Clogging up the neutral zone.

Winning battles along the boards for loose pucks. Panthers won those puck battles a majority of every game in the Finals.

The few times that the Coilers had sustained offensive pressure in the Panthers zone during the Finals is on the power play.

Panthers had an edge over the Coilers in 5 on 5 play. They were also lucky to be a relatively healthy team too.

Nugent-Hopkins was playing hurt. Hyman could not play the series because of injury. Injuries played a factor in the Finals. Overall, full marks to the Panthers for playing the Finals on their terms and their style of play.

Coach Knoblauch had no plan to make adjustments to the Panthers style of play. Like what McDavid said in interviews, they kept playing the same way for each game.

I watched a bunch of the highlights on X... one thing you don't notice is any sloppy Panthers play...

...but the Oilers? Non-stop slop and non-stop turnovers and signs of no gas in the tank. When you watch the highlights, it DOES look like Edmonton is just playing a league below the Panthers. The Edmonton in the Vegas or Dallas series was just not there, meanwhile, the Panthers were solid through every series.

I think it kinda fits here, Baby Canucks are up 3-1 in the Calder Cup Final! They have a chance to win it at home in Abbotsford on Saturday! Worth going in person?

K, update ... not worth it. Prices gone off the roof, like $500/per.

EvoFire 06-20-2025 12:13 PM

Should this be locked now that the cup has been won?

westopher 06-20-2025 01:27 PM

Let it roll out til Abby is done.

68style 06-20-2025 02:31 PM

Any good way to watch the Abby game on Saturday?

whitev70r 06-21-2025 07:45 PM

Baby Canucks going into OT ... tied 3-3. Drama.

Update - Welp ... not tonight and not on home ice. Charlotte scores in OT, they are going back for game 6. Canucks playing very well though in OT, lots of chances.

whitev70r 06-23-2025 05:40 PM

Baby Canucks win the Cup ... happy for you!

Hooray 3-2 in game 6. We won the Cup! We won the Cup!

Congrats to Manny Malholtra!

Tim Budong 06-23-2025 05:58 PM

SkinnyPupp 06-23-2025 05:59 PM
