i dislike doing very short runs where the engine doesn't even get to operating temperatures. might get cylinder wash down or uneven heating, which results in head gaskets warping, etc.

The x5 takes forever to warm up…. Like 15mins lol
Sometimes for those short drives in my morning I end up taking the long way or I let auto start run for 10mins before I head out.

Idling to warm is terrible for it btw. Oil moves very slowly and idling takes way longer to get oil temps.
Just drive it to warm.

Real Porsche owners fire up the engine, rip it to redline cold all the way to Starbucks with their sweater tied behind their backs and ask for a triple shot extra hot mocha with whipped cream on top like a douchebag and bitch and complain about bore scoring and how the 2KM they put on totally depreciated their POS.
Edit: Yes to just drive it to warm it up. Idling will hurt it more. You don't want BCAA or roadside assistance to replace your voicemail speed dial.

Start, put on your seat belt. Look at one Instagram meme and drive.

I'm curious how my FK8 will hold up long term.. I do the Porsche style LOL. Tho I've done that for all my past BMWs as well and that went well. Not full WOT as soon as I start up, but close enough. It's a 2 min drive to the bridge, on ramp to bridge 4 lanes across I'm at 50-70% throttle, RPM negligible but usually if I had to guess peak of 4.5K?

I don't warm up, turn the car on, idle like 10 sec tops to put my phone on the mount, turn on heated seats, select the song, then slap in d to start driving. Or wait the extra 10 sec for the garage door to close. But then I drive like a boomer and never really use more than 25% throttle, it just warms up at red lights and shit. Can't afford to floor v8s everywhere. |

^ it’s okay, you weren’t really “driving” anymore if you’re just slapping it in D to go |

A little longer in the winter. I got LEDs on the rev counter to show temperate and limits revs. Usually even when it's cold the orange LED is a 6k. I know shit's really cold when the orange LED is at 5.5k

C7 has an "orange" soft limiter at 3500rpm, and "red" hard limiter at 4500rpm, until you drive for 5 mins or so.

^same with the ratrolla. The rev limiter slowly climbs until it reaches operating temperature.
