I used to ride motorcycles a lot, for like 15 years I was on them as much as I could be, pretty much every 600 you can think of and then one day I decided they weren't powerful enough and I bought a 954RR Fireblade... after a multitude of near death experiences and trips to nearly 300km/h I decided I'd had enough of riding to die and got a little 250 offroad bike and went camping with friends riding logging trails and going up to Bella Coola... found that so much more rewarding. Then I basically stopped riding for almost 5 years and in Calgary now decided to get back into it.

Looked at a few off-road bikes like the inevitable BMW GS everyone ends up with cuz they're just so fucking good, but you can't bear to buy it at first because everyone and their dog named Ewan or Charley had one... decided instead to tribute Badhobz and go Italian with an Aprilia Tuareg 660... put a deposit on one... then got cold feet over a weekend at spending $16k on a fuckin bike when I hadn't even rode for 5 years and decided to get a used Honda instead. 2024 NX500 with only 3,600kms on it dude was desperate to sell before moving to Dubai. Smooth, reliable, precise, slightly slower and really boring... get some seat time back on a bike and know that it won't give me any troubles. First ride was up to Canmore and back.

Next plans are for some streetable knobby tires so I can go to Kananaskis and do off-road trails with less wobble wobble than these things when it gets a bit soupy.

So I bought this thing with a broken engine from some kid in Lethbridge, big hole in the block… then, thanks to a tip from 320icar, I picked up a short block while I was in Vancouver from a kid in Seattle who kindly agreed to drive it up to Bellingham for $50… showed up with it on the front seat of his Corolla with his baby momma and infant in the back seat!

Should be plug and play right? Right?!

You’d be surprised, quite a bit… these still sell for low to mid 30’s right now.

It came with all the original owner stuff the extra set of wheels with winters, the car cover, also has mountune intercooler and charge pipe as well as a Cobb Accessport

It's possible, but actually talking to 320icar who beats on his pretty good, he hasn't had any real problems (knock on wood) but he knows of 2 people who blew their engine and tranny respectively just cruising along at low rpm's.

It's an interesting world when you dive into it, the 2.3 motor has an inherent block weakness which is true, a lot of people are switching to the 2.0 Ecoboost block since the stroke is the only difference between the 2.0 and 2.3 and the block is a closed deck on that one, so much stronger. If I hadn't picked up this 2.3 block cheap I would have gone that route and you can run up to 600+hp if you do that up right. As it is I will make some changes to the 2.3 block to address its inherent weakness.

Low speed cruising is what we in the MS3 days called zoomzoomboom. The culprit is likely LSPI, low speed pre-ignition.

https://www.stratifiedauto.com/blog/...oboost-motors/

I'm not a huge fan of Stratified, but this does a better job of explaining it. The Ecoboost is built upon the lessons learnt in the 2.3 turbos from Mazda.

TL;DR - Don't boost at high gear low rpm.
