you need a motorcycle license for the 125cc though.

Yes. Actually you can go through your motorcycle learners, MST and road test on a scooter. My buddy did that but you are restricted to only scooter of any engine size.

IMO better to just do your road test on a motorcycle. That way you can ride anything.

Even at an autocross or at the track, the time delta has always been negligible. For me, anyway!

Usually on the track. Having a passenger is around 1.5 to 2 second difference between not having a passenger. Especially on a lighter car with not much power.

Great midlife crisis thing to do, learn to ride a motorcycle and get your license. The training itself (though classroom portion was boring as hell) is valuable to learn to ride/drive defensively. And if you do it midlife, you're not a stupid ass 20 yr old who makes IG reels & wants to die ... midlife with wife and kids, you want to make it home alive so no stupid shit. Nothing quite like that open air feeling, doing twisties by a lake, going for a solo mind clearing ride! Always feel better afterwards.

whitev70r - Do you ride?

If the weather works out, I'll probably throw on a temporary permit onto the Monster for a nice ride.

whiteducatimonster would be my sic dream username. Love the monster although I heard it's usually in the shop more than in your garage.

Like badhobz, used to ride but gained too much weight (also like Badhobz).

I think the older Monsters are in the shop more than in your garage. When Audi bought Ducati, circa 2011 (+/- 2 or 3 years) they improved its reliability. Ironic though because it's Audi. And you have one.

Weight is no excuse not to ride. Get a cruiser of some sort.

And I have seen some pretty big guys riding Harleys or Indians. Lol.

Are non-whites allowed to ride Harleys and Indians?

That wasn't an excuse more so a dig at Badhobz ... any chance you can get to. And yah, from Ducati to looking at what I thought I would never do ... Harleys ... :lo. Sportster that is, not the ultraglide.

But in all honesty, if I get the itch, I'll just go and rent one for a day. There are 2 places here locally where you can do that. Cycle BC and EagleRider.

Anything 959 onwards is fine.
These aren't KTM or Aprilias where the engines are made of chinesium and blow within 1/2 years.

Belt tensioning and valve adjustments are a bit fussy but you can rent the tools or get a newer one with 15k mile interval instead of 7.5.
The shitty Showa shocks on Monsters & expensive forged rims/rotors if you damage them are the real risks.

Are they selling to avoid the valve adjustment?
Ad didn't say it was done, is due at 30k km along with belts: ~$1800.
Front rotors are $700 USD a set.

https://assets.ctfassets.net/x7j9qwv...i__Ed.2024.pdf

- Book time on valve check/oil/belts is 5h.
- Ducati Vancouver (2023) book rate is ~200/hr
- Parts: ~300 for belts, ~ 250 for shims/plugs/seals/gaskets for vales, 250 if you want to do belt tensioners.

Forget the valve adjustment. Just buy, ride, and dump it.

Edit: whitev70r - I was not joking about the Audi part. If you are ever itching, let me know. I am happy to let you take out the Monster on a day permit. Just make sure you check the tire pressure and fill it back up with gas. I'm less concerned if the bike is dropped or crashed. mb_ took it out last year and bought an Aprilia Tuono.
