You just highlighted it perfectly.

They had these things in the 7.5 and even a dipstick while driving just as good. Plus it wasnt an eye watering, bat shit insane price of 63k !

VW is insane. That’s why they are going under.

Looking at the OEM ranking, the VW Group (+5.3%) and Renault Group (+5.4%) both defy the negative market with solid gains but Stellantis (-16%) is in freefall. Hyundai-Kia (-3.7%), the Toyota Group (-4.4%) and the BMW Group (-2.9%) all lose a little market share year-on-year. Brand-wise, Volkswagen (+16.4%) is in splendid form, scoring the only gain in the Top 5, and a sizeable one at that. Toyota (-10%) suffers but stays in 2nd place ahead of BMW (-0.6%), Skoda (-2.1%) and Peugeot (-3.1%). Renault (+19.1%) benefits from a dismal year-ago result but falls six spots on December to #9, below its sister brand Dacia (-3.2%) at #7. Cupra (+51.9%) comfortably outsells Seat (-17.8%) with MG (+15.5%) and Mercedes (+4.2%) also in positive. Tesla (-45.5%) crashes to less than 10,000 sales.
This is Europe specifically, but VW is one of the only big manufacturers climbing out of the shitter.

That’s probably all supported by the lousy beetles and douche bags of Porsche.

VW itself is up 16.4%. That doesn't include any sub brands.

7.5 does not drive like the 8, period.

They made huge leaps in the drivetrain.

Drove them both back to back at VIMC.

The cost cutting started with the Mk7.5. The early Mk7's (2015-2016) had the most "things", some of which I've added back to my car.

I remember my mk7 sportwagen had a little drawer underneath the driver seat. Perfect for stashing my stuff. Along with the driver side pull out drawer on the left. Tons of little pockets and nice touches. The glovebox even had a/C vent so you can technically store a water bottle in it and it would be cool.

The interior never had a squeak or rattle, it was solid. Materials were all soft touch and buttons / switches felt great. No piano black plastics. Door pockets were all lined with felt and even rear vents had temp control.

That was the VW I remember.

This mk8 is a piece of shit in comparison. Even the backup camera programming is stupid. You put it in reverse it flips out, but when you put it back into drive or park it doesn’t automatically retract until you get going for a little bit. So god forbid you want to keep your car on while you grab something from the hatch. You gotta press a stupid button to cancel the backup camera first otherwise you can’t even open the stupid hatch.

The door pockets are still lined on the Mk8 aren’t they?

Glove box AC was lost with Mk 7.5

And didn’t the backup camera do the same thing? I’ve defs been caught by that on my MK7

I don’t recall my mk7 ever having that camera issue. It would always pop in as soon as you put it in park or drive. Plus it was built in Mexico. How can Juan screw together a better car than the clowns in Wolfsburg.

God damn travesty

MK7 had a setting:

If your car has an operating reverse camera, it will have a parking assistance module which will be registered on the car's CAN network @ address hex76. This module will have an adaptation channel called Switch-off speed for parking assist which will have a factory value 10 km. Change this value (there is a limited adjustment range which I think is 5 km/h-to-15 km/h)

Ugh makes me miss my mk7 sportwagen. I would have kept it if it wasn’t for the weird dsg lurch’s and the pano roof leaking / breaking 3x.

Typical VW. Always some trash thing that’s broken.

List of broken things on the mk8 so far:

Door panel squeaking. Both sides. Replaced twice. First replacement needed to be replaced again cuz it still squeaked.

Dash trim replaced once. Creaking and squeaking

Overhead dome light would randomly call SOS. Replaced the entire unit.

Door creaking. Still there. They said it’s the hard rubber moulding they use on the doors. In the summer it creaks even when lubricated.

Paint blobs on the rear hatch. Tons of overspray and blobs. Zero quality control. I was going to ask them to replace the hatch but fuck it, it’s probably better to leave it alone than trust these German retards to send another one.

Mirrors need adjustments every few weeks. Due to the automatically folding mirrors, it never returns to the previous set position. It always moves slightly upwards so after a few weeks your passenger side mirror is pointed sky high. Nice quality VW. Dealer said they all do that.

Occasional failure of safety systems. Randomly displays shit like frontal collision system disabled. I check to see if there is anything obstructing the logo. Nothing. Restart the car and it goes away. Sometimes it’s the lane change system. Restart and it goes away.

Utter joke of a car, complete garbage …. But it drives and handles decently well. Engine is peppy and steering wheel and shifter feels good (after my short throw kit and weighted knob). Does its job of keeping me awake during my occasional drive to work and downtown Costco. At 42k the price is obscene but lease is only 500 bucks a month zero down so still worth keeping

My favourite thing about the reverse camera is that driving manual if you roll backwards while engaging the clutch, in first gear mind you, on any kind of slant the camera comes on hahahaha
