My requirements for a Miata were that it be new (because lease) and it had to have the sport package (Brembo's, Recaro seats, BBS wheels) and be in GS-P trim (LSD, Bilstein dampers, strut tower brace, BOSE sound system). I scoured Autotrader for months and nothing fit these requirements until I found this RF. I originally wanted a Soul Red Metallic soft top but I was unable to find one with the options I wanted. After seeing the RF in person I really started to like the way it looked both with the top up and the top down. The roof folding process added some extra theater and onlookers seem to think it was cool so I went with it, 99lb weight penalty be damned. In the end I didn't get a Soul Red but Mainlander White Metallic still looks pretty good! | I bet you won't even notice the 99 lbs.
How often do you notice the drive is perceptibly worse, just because you had someone ride along with you? And people weigh 150lb+!
Even at an autocross or at the track, the time delta has always been negligible. For me, anyway!

I think usually midgets should weigh less than 99 pounds. I saw a modo Miata yesterday but it was a soft top.

I had the removable hard top (RHT) for my NC Miata (soft top), and I think it weight less than 50 lbs. When the RHT is put on, the additional weight is pretty noticeable. In particular, it is all weight held up high at the top middle rear of the car. When you are a slalom type of manoeuvre, the difference (compared to just having the soft top) is very noticeable. In normal street driving, the additional weight isn't all that noticeable though.
But that's an RHT vs soft top comparison. Unless you are driving the car back to back, it may not be that obvious.

tor-lift eco hitch. Class 2, heavy as balls and triangulated to the rear subframe. I usually take it on/off when doing events but I’m out biking with the little one all the time, so I just leave it.
Plus it’s still fun getting 10/85 at autox with a baby seat in the back and 150lb hitch

Is that the one I went down to Point Roberts for you to pick up with my MR2 not realizing how big it was and then had to drive it to your house with my t-top off because it wouldn't fit any other way? lol

What bike rack are you using? And what is the little guy riding? I'm starting to look at the next bike for my older one. He's very comfortable on his Spawn 16" right now.

For a 5yo he’s really taken to mountain biking, we’re at the bike park all the time and the delta watershed. I think over the winter I’ll keep an eye out for a Norco fluid 20” dual suspension if I can get a good deal.

With rear seats folded, HRV is longer than the cx5 by 2 inches iirc.
Pricing made no sense though, the cx5 is only 2-5k more expensive than the HRV at the time depending on if you were getting the gx or the gs trim for the cx5. honda's interest rate was 6.8%, Mazda offered 3% financing rate if the term was 3 years or less. cx5 drives better with the bigger 2.5L engine and 6 speed auto vs CVT, also has better interior design and quality, HRV is really sluggish with the 2.0L engine. Ultimately we chose the cx5.
Similarly optioned CRV was also 3 to 6 grand more expensive than the cx5 not even counting the higher interest rate IIRC, but it is also significantly more spacious than the CX5

The CRV and Rav4 interior volume is hard to beat, nothing comes close unless you get into a larger class of vehicle.
CX5 is absolutely tiny, but for some one who doesn't need to put a car seat in, it's adequate and it's a lot nicer than it's contemporaries, the turbo option is also really nice as nothing else has that kind of power unless you step into luxury.

I only had the time and budget to fix some of the things I wanted to get done, but it's back out of the garage.

I'm aiming for Midnight Rally in a few weeks if it keeps running well, and possibly Totem, but we'll see what my codriver is available for.

I remember there was a 125cc BWS. I don't know if they still make them.
Edit: They do still make them! https://www.yamaha-motor.ca/en/road/...5/2025-GQX125S

Ya. They still make the 125 bws. They discontinued the 50cc bws. The last generation from 2012 to 2017, yami went with a 4 stroke. Probably because of emissions. The pre 2012 were 2 strokes.
