I'm not even going to entertain these convos about Petey anymore. If you hate him, good for you. He's on the team regardless of how you feel about him.
What's annoyed me recently about the team is whenever Petey is in a good spot to receive the puck and shoot. They rather skate around and pass to someone else, looking at Hughes mostly.

Ray Ferraro made a good point during the game against Columbus about Petey's hesitation in shooting the puck.
Ferraro said that hockey is played for the most part on instinct. You cannot overthink the game too much as a NHL player. Otherwise, a player doesn't play to their strengths.
Petey has a top calibre shot. I notice Petey's shot only when he is set up for a one timer slap shot during a power play. He is thinking too much of trying to make the perfect pass to set up a line mate for a scoring chance.
Shoot the puck, Petey! Shoot first just like Boeser!
It's no coincidence that the elite players like Mackinnon, Celebrini, and Bedard are at the top of the point leader and goal stats in the league now. Those players shoot the puck quite a bit.
I think everyone's right. Yes, he could shoot more, but his linemates are also failing to finish. Maybe Tocchet can continue to drive Michkov out of town and into our laps. About time we won a trade like that.
Nobody can setup EP40? I don't think that is true. Hughes sets up players and drives play all the time. Players set EP40 up on the PP all the time. How many of EP40 slappers went in? Def not Ovi level.
He's a centre, he's not supposed to get setup... he is the setup guy... based on those stats he's not creating his own chances at a high rate, but as I have definitely noticed this year, he's setting other people up for glorious chances that they aren't finishing.
Let's be honest, our top forward group is NOT upper echelon. Boeser and Debrusk would be L2/3 on a lot of top tier teams.
He's also playing with Kane primarily right now, and like the other night what did Kane have? 10 shots on net? So he's definitely not getting any shots with Kane on his line if Kane is just rifling it at the net everytime he's in the offensive zone. No coincidence that when Kane's point totals started going up (ie: he started scoring a bit finally) Petey's points also went up. Having Garland on that line is pretty good. I think Garland creates and finishes at a 50/50 rate.
Honestly they need another guy, like a Michkov, on that top line... I don't think at this point in his career that Kane is a 1st line dude anymore.
Likewise, Sherwood is having a fucking great season goals wise, but he has ZERO assists. 10G 0A. That's crazy. He's also almost a team worst -7 last time I looked, so he better be scoring because apparently his line is getting its shit kicked in 5 on 5.
A few games ago EP40 had two partial breakaways. One in the first and one in the third. Both times he was slow and decided to pass the puck back to Kane, and Garland. I was like wtf. The guy has no quickness. All top guys a few quick strikes and you would have a clear breakaway with a chance of scoring or a juicy rebound in which Kane might have gotten since he was full speed behind.
I remembered Boeser had a horrible plus minus last year as well. He was scoring but also being scored on when he was on the ice. With Sherwood he is scoring and that what Canucks need. Without him I think Canucks are below .500. The game against the Blues where he got a hatty. He was the only one scoring and it was not EP40 setting him up because he had zero points that game.
11 teams tied with 18 points, and 2 points separate 18 teams from 9th to 26th. Canucks being 26th with 17 points.
If they got the extra point against Colorado the other night, they'd be tied for 11th. Not as bad as it seems, especially given the number of injured players.

I'm not trying to outright defend EP40, but it's not as simple as it looks on the surface at times. Of course he's not assisting on Sherwood's goals, he doesn't play with Sherwood.
As for quickness his footspeed is alright, it's not anywhere near McDavid... if you're seeing anyone struggle to break loose on a partial you need to consider what part of his shift a player is on? I mean... I've played my fair share of hockey, I ain't slowing down on purpose for anything resembling a breakaway... but if I'm out of gas, I'm out of gas.
I haven't seen worse luck from a team than I saw from the Canucks in this game vs Winnipeg in my life.
3 goals off awful deflections, numerous chances that hit posts or somehow miraculously stayed out, bad bounces, injuries to star players. Just absolutely cursed.
It’s crazy too cuz we started the season something like 9/9 on the PK? I think Edmonton was the first team to score a PP goal against us.
I don’t know what M-Petey or Keef were doing last night, MP tossing a grenade to Keef right in front of our own net and Keef just blindly no look wristing it
