Mostly space sets and a couple of early 80’s city sets.

wow you're really lucky as a kid to get so much of the space line. i really liked the grey ship on the right growing up.

then after that they came out with another space line where it was all black with the glass being like a neon green/yellow which was really cool too.

Great68 09-24-2025 09:37 AM

I had this one as a kid: https://www.brickeconomy.com/resourc...1-1_xlarge.jpg

Had the really neat pieces with electrical contacts which would make a circuit to get the lights to flash.

I displayed it for years. I gave it to my son a while back, and now it disappeared into his giant abyss box of pieces :(

Badhobz 09-24-2025 10:28 AM

^i have the exact same set. Still around. I used that canopy piece to make my own mechwarrior guy

Yes! The ufo invaders line, my favourite space theme. I had a few as a kid, I loved the neon yellow glass pieces

Got any pics of these mechs? I'd actually really like to see this lol!

Badhobz 09-24-2025 10:47 AM

i wish, thats like 30 years ago... nobody had digi cams back then and my parents were wayy too cheap to take a photograph of it and go have it printed for god knows how many dollars.

This set rings a bell I think I had this. I don't think there were as many sets released back in the day. There's no way kids would have so many duplicate sets nowdays.

I did the same. My dad went all Lord Business on me for messing up the sets.

I had/have this for sure. I remember the little portable jail in the back. There was always a minifig locked up.

really liked this set as a kid. nice size, really sleek. the prison in the back was a neat idea :lol

spoon.ek9 09-24-2025 01:17 PM

100% I had that thing too, so nostalgic.

Great68 09-24-2025 03:34 PM

Anyone have this one as a kid?:

My favourite set, I had it on my dresser for years. It too is lost in my son's lego void.

These were my favourite "model" legos, still made out of what looks like traditional pieces. I think that if you wanted you could have also built a couple of other things with this set.

68style 09-24-2025 03:43 PM

The yellow and black space stuff was (possibly inappropriately) called Blacktron… I have pieces of 1 ship I think I figured out which one.

I’ve been ordering random missing pieces off of bricklink from Canadian sellers with no minimum orders. Some grandma in New Brunswick has had most of the stuff I’ve needed lol!

No wonder RS has so many ballers. Lego kits when you were kids. I always got the cheap knock offs. I forgot what the brand was called. You can still build stuff but kinda limited compared to lego.

MegaBloks? The quality was terrible back then, but now it's pretty good. A lot of other knock off brands out there now, also with very decent quality...

Meanwhile, LEGO set prices just keep going up and up...

GLOW 09-24-2025 04:18 PM

megablocks and kre-o were the north american 'legal' knockoffs.

former has license to pokemon, halo, star trek and others, while kre-o had transformers and gi-joe.

i have the kreo gi joe H.I.S.S. tank, a few transformers that got dumped in the box & a halo mantis mech.

lots of china fake brands. i only know my world as i got a lot of minecraft knockoffs until my youngest is like naw i ain't playing with this and separates lego from fake boxes :lol :okay:

Not true!
Growing up I never got brand new lego, let alone a complete set. They were all hand me downs from friends and coworkers kids that have out grown them. I remember getting a tote of used lego at a yard sale for no reason it was Xmas in July hahaha. As my parents got more financially comfortable, I was able to pick my own toys for bday/xmas but by then I have moved on to video games and rc cars.

Mikoyan 09-24-2025 04:37 PM

As a kid, I only had one Lego Space set, and a handful of the 2x4 bricks. I made 'mechs' that would transform by rebuilding them into robot/airplane modes.

Contrast that to now, my kid has around a hundred sets, numbering around 45,000 pieces per the count on the Lego Builder app.

spoon.ek9 09-24-2025 04:51 PM

I loved those neon yellow pieces from the space sets in the 90s. Also super nostalgic when I googled images just now lol. I think I have a box of old Lego that I haven't touched in YEARS. Never had the heart to sell or donate them as I figured some day I'd give it to my kid(s).

If you’re even a little bit into Lego space this book is an absolute must buy, the story behind it and the guy responsible for most of it is absolutely fascinating:

this new black pearl ship looks pretty bad ass.. i kinda want one

Its just so damn massive i dont really have a good place to display it. I guess the office window sill but then it'll get dusty and annoying.

blkgsr 09-25-2025 06:37 AM

i used to get a new set for christmas and maybe birthdays.

always had them built by time breakfast was ready depending on the size.

my older cousin had a massive collection too.

i still have all mine.

he's been buying sets for 20+ years now hoarding for his kids and multiples of train sets etc. has a pretty good collection still in boxes

It’s a sick set! Too bad it’s been sold out for weeks now. I’m gonna try my luck at the lego store later. I already have the original on display but wouldn’t mind a sealed set to stock. But hands down the most badass ships are the Queen Anne revenge and silent Mary.

Just like cars, black sets are a bitch to upkeep. You’ll either need a display case or enjoy dusting. I’m dusting all my Batman stuff monthly, otherwise it gets so thick compressed air can’t get it off without breaking it. Then you’ll be dusting that shit with a brush like a cafe maid.
