Flying within Canada is a fucking ripoff, whatever airline you choose.
Just waiting for Telus to start their own airline...

Yes, because Telus is known for great service and low prices.

I am Flying today on westjet and it's brutal. First flight with narrow seats and its atrocious. They were actually moving fat people around because side bellies are touching other side bellies. I am in an aisle seat but the guy beside me is bigger but not unlike anything I've dealt before with the old seats. The new seats require me to scrunch both my shoulders inward. Yes, both, because if my leave my aisle shoulder relaxed, it brushes every ass that walks passed me. I'm not in the mood for another SA accusation right now.

economy seats are like a catch 22, consumers want lower fares but that means sacrificing legroom and stuffing as many seats into the plane as possible. Also prairie folks are "bigger"

Amongst Canadian airlines my favourite is Porter - their new planes are very quiet and the 2x2 seating means no middle row hassle. Big overhead bins and the meals are solid.

Most of my preferred flights happened on a De Havilland Dash 8-400. No middle seat, more comfortable ventilation and Propeller power to drown out the noisy kids

I'm glad I don't have to fly to Saskatoon anymore for work, awful every time.

Like showing up to the gate with a overweight backpack BAM 75$ please
Show up to your narrow seat, and your gut does not fit within your armrest? BAM 550$ please

Not going to refute that the overall flying experience has gotten worse over time. Things like a decrease in legroom (seat pitch) or thinner and less padded seats do lead to decreased comfort.
Seat Width though, has stayed the same for probably over the decades and is the one thing that airlines actually cannot change, new seat or old seat, or the seat from when Westjet took their first light, that seat width is the same.
For example, the plane you were likely on, the Boeing 737 either the NextGen or Max series physically uses the same fuselage (the round tube) from its inception many decades ago. There is only so much space horizontally to fit your standard 3x3 seats + Aisle and airlines have long prescribed the maximum seat width they're legally allowed to have for seats as there are federal minimums for the aisle width. In fact, actual seat width has maybe actually crept up as airlines implement thinner armrests to increase seat width.
Long story short, seat width hasn't decreased for decades despite what we may perceive. This points to the alternative that average human widthes have changed...
Anyways, for those on Rogers Internet, they are offering the Streaming bundle for Netflix, Disney+ and AppleTV for 15 dollars. Pretty good, basically getting AppleTV for free after factoring in the regular prices.

Side question for Teryaki: Are you an aviation/travel enthusiast? Or do you work in the industry? That's some serious insight.
I just like my flight attendants old, angry, and straight to the point (AC for life!)

Don't work in the industry, came close to a few times though. With the shitshow that continues to be NavCanada and their staffing issues I think I made the right choice but thats another story for another time.
In a nutshell, yea just a plane geek. Some people got trains, some got cars, I got planes.

747/777 are 18" pitches, but 787 and newer 777s are 16-17".

With the new 777X that's coming out the seats are going back up to 18" as they've managed to find an extra 4" of cabin width due to panel sculpting. Airlines did the same thing with the 787 - originally it was a 18.5" wide seat in a 2-4-2 configuration and airlines went with a 17" width so they could go to a 3-3-3 configuration (only JAL sticks with a 2-4-2 but their seats are only 18" wide)
17" is largely the minimum seat width for all airplanes except for the A330Neo which flies with Cebu airlines - they converted from a 2-4-2 to a 3-3-3 for their short haul flights and the seat width is 16.5" - tiny malnourished SE asians fit ok.
Boeing's re-used their single aisle fuselage since the 707 so their single aisle seats are all 17" wide while Airbus was always at 18" as the default. You get some 18.5" seats (A220 - middle seat) but that's really rare.

I always book A220 middle seat on Delta, and generally book JetBlue when available short haul because they have a 32" seat pitch minimum.

do you try to avoid the seats where you serve as Emergency exit door opener? Usually, has a bit more leg room.
