I've never really bothered with racing sims before but how is playing without an actual wheel?

Never owned a wheel since gt1 am more comfortable with a dualshock. Its possible to get 100% gold medals/complete without a wheel. Ofc it's more "real" but personally I feel it's only worth it when you get a gigantic LCD, serious 7.1 setup and those racing seat thingy. A buddy has a 32" LCD, pc 2.1 speaker and places his g25 on a coffee table lol.

Lol it's alright, GT5 doesn't do you any favours for having a good sound setup though. IMO the sound effects are garbage. The big screen doesn't make much of a difference, I should move the ps3 upstairs cause we have a sharper 60" LCD TV in the living room. I don't have a wheel or seat yet, but I always sucked at driving with a wheel, maybe because I never took it seriously tho. Maybe if I had a seat setup.

I dunno, I think the timelapse is pretty unique..and I actually prefer this new moon over castle..especially at 1:49-1:55 during the scene where the LFA does the overtake in the HSR tunnel.

1. Yes, if you buy an used car, the oil is dirty and so by changing it you gain some power back

2. Yes, if you have been given a car, or it was a prize car, by changing the oil you'll gain a few more hp

3. No, it doesn't have to be right away, as long as you change the oil, it will gain more hp.

4. Not sure if it'll work on cars you bought yourself. , but i'm sure it will if they allow you to change the oil. i just tried on one of my cars and they didn't allow me

Wow what's wrong with my PS3... My track loading takes at least 45 secs, haven't timed it but feels like forever lol... I got it when it first came out so it's probably pretty outdated :/

Level 16 now. Usually get the close ratio for the lower power cars. For the fully customizable one I'm still at final drive only I think...

Gt5p is fine. Been playing it for ages. Somehow I only feel it's slow with gt5. Maybe it's due to farming millions of credit that is making me feel impatient. SSDs are ok in price for the 120g and below units. Gt5 won't go past 10g so even a 120g is fine (currently less than $200) In fact I kinda regret upgrading my 2nd ps3 to 500g, only using less than 50g after I bought a super long hdmi to link my pc to my LCD.

however I clicked the install option and there was a "Full Install" I clicked it and took about another 20 minutes. Load times are 50% faster now

For those of you that cant seem to get gold @ the top gear 2nd test in the special event with the elise...
dun let the EGO get the best of you..cuz I always play simulation with everything off..and after like 25min.. i couldnt for the life of me get past 5th...so i gave up and
put traction ctrl back to 5 and put ABS to 5...and voila... 1st with 3 seconds to spare LOL...

it's really mixed...sometimes it can look great and sometimes it looks subpar. I have no complaints with screen tears taht others are suggesting. However, I still think the visuals in GT5P was more consistent. I still think they should've focused more on the visuals of the track and enviornment...the roads always look too glossy.

The standard cars are hit or miss for ugly. Some look great (Veyron) while others look awful (on one of the Skyline race cars the exhaust was some poorly done pixels in the centre of the trunk lid).

The tracks for the most part look fantastic. Someone commented that the corners were not round - I have seen parts where the guard rails are not round, yet that seems by design cause the Cape Ring track has some fantastically round walls.

The menus look fine, not ugly, not great.

I'm not really comparing it to any other racing games. Maybe it looks better than all of them, I'm not sure. It is definitely disgustingly ugly after playing F1 2010 on PC for several weeks. But comparing PS3 to a decently equipped PC is like comparing a PS1 to a PS3.

I didn't play much Forza 3, but I know Forza 2 at least had backgrounds with lighting effects, giving it a more realistic look overall.

I guess it's that this was supposed to be 'the next big thing' for the PS3 after Uncharted 2... Of course those are high expectations to live up to, but what I am disappointed the most about is that it didn't even come close to living up to expectations. It not only doesn't look like an amazing car-porn game, it looks like a rather ugly one, with 80% of the cars being nothing other than upsampled PS2 models. When you do get to see 'premium' cars, the ugly background stands out even more, as it looks like you are driving realistic cars in a cartoon world.

But as a game, it's fun! I won't argue with anyone about that.

I had to go play to see if you're right, and unless you mean something else by "background" you're not.

Every object casts a shadow, even those far off track. I've played Madrid and Roma and parked the car looking out into the alleys, fields, ... everything has an accurate shadow. Do you mean the mountains far in the distance? Play Madrid and look right and left near the start. You'll see all the building to the street on the right cast shadows onto each other, even the trees and poles cast shadows onto the buildings. Then look left and notice the mesh fencing casts a shadow onto the top of the guard rail.

If you're not seeing these, then maybe you have a setting wrong.

To compare, since I don't own the game, I looked up some vids of F1 2010 on Youtube and the guard rails don't even cast shadows. WTF? Maybe it is not the PC version...

Yup. There are a lot of races with no restrictions or very lenient ones. Unlike forza because they have the car rating system.
For gt5 anything American = muscle car so you could wait till you get a corvette race car or smth lol. I used the Buick special and what a cake walk....

Tuned car, supercar, hatchback, all are no restriction too

feel like a broke ass after buying a lp 670 sv, felt even more broke after engine mods

IMO since it costs the same to mod. It's more worthwhile modding a Lamborghini than a yaris. Another flaw thats better in forza

The races are super easy cause you can enter with virtually any car you want. You have to decide to make it challenging. Try beating the super car races with a muscle car, so much fun!

I believe it is based on your Ps3 date/time. I got the error too until I changed my ps3 time.

Thats cause it is a Murcielago, it is basically a muscle car that can go very fast while steering wheel is centered and make awesome noise while doing it. But for track with lots of turns especially tight turns... it sucks. Your only advantage is the power when you can put it down. Then again I only have real life experience with a stock lp640 on the track not a lp670sv... lp640 sucks when you have to turn. I say gt5 is pretty close to what it handles like in real life: shitty. :)

I have also tracked f430 and scuderia. They are very easy to drive fast. Super stable in corners and the carbon ceramic brakes are just to die for. That car can make pretty much anyone feel like a race car driver. It will run circles around a lp640 on a tight track. When 5th gear did the test with scuderia, it was turning out the same lap time as an enzo. :)

... as for gt5.. scuderia is easy to drive too. You can easily get first place in the grand tour special events. Even when you see 458 and enzo has way more speed on the long straight. Just give scuderia a few corners and all the other cars are history. haha

Today I played GT5 in 3D on our 55" Sony HX800 at work at its fucking hurting. Nothing is even 3D. I drove the R33 in a sunday cup race and the only thing that had a mere whiff of 3D was the standings on he right side of the screen during the race. What a joke.
Don't forget, running the game in 3D also lowers the resolution, lowers the antialiasing, and the frame rate is around 20-50 instead of 50-60 on most tracks.

Trying to run 3D games on a console is a joke. They just don't have the power...

its not hard at all, power all the way, keep ur finger pressed on the accelerator, tap brakes here and there to help u with the tight corners, oh and corners are ur chances to gain position. u need to be at positions 3 or 4 by the end of lap 1 to have a shot at first place.

luckily, the gallardo kit is basically the real Superleggera kit with three diff wing options.. pretty awesome. but the total cost for kit was.. 40k :facepalm:

a stage 3 engine away from full tuning my R35... used it for japanese championship.. and yes it took an hour.

as for truck, you're supposed to win a dodge ram somehow.. i forgot how.. but i won one.

You're still on amateur races? No wonder you don't like the game yet, wait till some of the better tracks in pro/expert.

Have you completed the AMG special event? or the karts? Both earn shitloads of cash then you can buy the cars you need. Make sure you buy a Ferrari, I wasted all my $$$ on a lambo and it handles like crap. Check the used lot periodically, trucks do show up. Or complete more of the licenses, you win a Range Rover.

If you complete all the licenses and races gold you should win enough cars for most of the later races. I won a lupo GTI, some french POS, and a 80s Motul racing Civic.

The 370Z. Anyone else have one? I fucking LOVE it. It gargle, burbles, and backfires around 4-6K. It's at 450hp right now. Engine Stage2. Full Chassis Mods.

In the pics below, it was at 400hp. Only Hood + Weight Reduc 1. No cage, glass, or drivetrain.

I was flying down here at about 190 on Cape Ring. No brakes.

i dunt think that is true. of all the cars i tried in arcade and the cars i bought, the clutch works with g27. But then again, there is no sequential function for the g27 compared to the g25

And to the person that is wondering if the clutch works, it works. pretty realistic. you can also stall in first gear. the steering feedback is quite realistic and the feedback on dirt/snow is amazing. you can feel the tires lose traction on the steering wheel.

i dunt think that is true. of all the cars i tried in arcade and the cars i bought, the clutch works with g27. But then again, there is no sequential function for the g27 compared to the g25

And to the person that is wondering if the clutch works, it works. pretty realistic. you can also stall in first gear. the steering feedback is quite realistic and the feedback on dirt/snow is amazing. you can feel the tires lose traction on the steering wheel.

Just tune the car and smoke them. Sucks having to spend the $$$ yet 1-2 gold in the AMG events and you'll have it right back.

Well, I added some mods to yaris, but it's not fast enough, I tried 7 times trying to be first place. So You know the S turn at the bottom left corner? I decided to take a shortcut every lap and drive thru straight instead of following the track. I won first place just a couple of foot away from them.

Man some of these races u guys have troubles with I fly through with no problem.. Yaris race is all about the corners using them as much as u can to get the lead. Once the straight comes u gotta start blocking and keeping them back. Should give you a 5-10 sec lead to the finish line in the last lap.

The Yaris you pick makes a huge difference. The one you win has only 83hp, while the 07 you can buy has > 100.

Tune up the Shelby which you won from an earlier race and it should be ok. Full mods + tweaks to settings = easy win.
