Only the details are different, honestly. The show is following the comic book...but the first four episodes were like...four pages in the comic.
But the major plot points like getting to Herschel's farm and Carl getting shot happen just like they do in the comic.

**Comic spoiler**
I read the comic during the summer but I vaguely remember him keeping ONE walker in the barn because it was his wife or something...
In the show, I'm guessing those walkers were his family or something
Feel free to correct me Ronin/StylinRed, since you read the comic aswell ;)
Speaking of the comic, I stopped reading it for a bit and forgot which issue I'm on

Comic spoiler response to jeedee
I think I remember there being multiple zombies in the barn...at least a couple family members they were hoping to find a cure for.
Also, he's religious and doesn't want to kill.
Regarding Andrea...not really a spoiler but still, read at your own discretion
I'm surprised they wrote Andrea like this. In the comic, she's a fan favorite and not nearly this bitchy and needy.

its probably because living on the farm they havent encountered any walking dead zombies recently that wandered on the farm/land.. im preety sure thats all gonna change with that bulletshot from andrea
i predict just like in the comic the zombies are gonna be hearing that shot from miles away and their all gonna just follow the sound until they reach the farm area.
herschel the farm owner also thought there would be some sort of cure in the future thats why he had all the zombies locked up in the barn cuz they were all close to him or someone he knew.

clicking on a thread about a tv show pretty much entails there are going to be discussions on the latest episode..meaning spoilers on what has already aired
those that want to talk about how the show is progressing with respect to the comics are keeping it in the spoiler warnings...stuff not aired yet that can ruin the suspense for the show-only followers
everyone's happy under one big thread :alonehappy:

I try not to post comic spoilers unless people ask for them and even then, I post them in spoiler tags...sometimes more than one.

I feel like a hypocrite.
I gave the comics a chance after I finished the first season and craved more walking dead but didn't like it.
But I gave it another shot last night and damn I was hooked. Once you get passed the parts that are similar to the TV show you stop comparing the two it's pretty damn good. Quite intense as well.
Now do I start putting up spoiler tags for the comics after I was saying how much I didn't like them....lol

If you are referring to the episode where shane and otis run away from the zombies yet barely gain distance, but are able to gain good distance when they are limping then yes, I agree that wasn't done very well.
But overall I think the varying speeds of zombies makes sense. Just like how humans are. It also depends on how long they've been a zombie for and what kind of injuries they had. Possibly lack of food?
These kind of things aren't plot holes but rather things not yet discussed in the show.
As for new characters I think you're referring to the last episode where Hersel's son was asking to help with the search. He was in other episodes but had no prominent role and so wasn't remembered. It's impossible for a show to fuck up that badly.
Nice hacks andrea

those of you who say "i hate watching this show because of (some lame reason) but watch it anyway" guess what, you're watching it because its entertaining. seriously, what else are you going to watch anyway? its a pretty good hour of TV and better than most of the other shit on tv anyway. maybe over exposure to shiny objects on the internet has given you the attention span of a gnat. 2 minute youtube clips and nothing else. stop looking for small plot holes to try to ruin the show in your mind and take it for what its worth. and try to imagine yourself in the situation. thats the great part about shows like this.

Or private FTP Servers. I get the walking dead like 5mins after its done airing on tv.
I find it absolutely hilarious how people are bludgeoning zombie's all the time without getting a single drop of blood on them. Last time I hit a guy with just my fist, no hammer or heavy object, his nose leaked all over me! What's their secret!? :fuckthatshit:
I like the show but holy fuck is it completely unrealistic in so so many ways. I like how Andrea becomes a marksmen in a matter of hours. Ever tried to actually shoot a moving target with a pistol beyond 30 yards? It is extremely difficult.
SkinnyPupp
11-22-2011, 06:32 PM
Yeah the blood hting is stupid, but that is a comic book thing. In comics, and I guess shows based on them, the characters almost never change their look, so they can't change their clothes. If they got blood all over them, they would have to explain why they changed into another copy of the same clothes, or have them change into different clothes which they almost never do.
You even see them doing laundry which is hilarious since they have been wearing almost the same thing for months now :lol

x2
The last 2 mins is meaningless if you haven't been paying attention to how the characters are developing and interacting:
Like when Glen looks at Maggie for approval before joining the zombie shooting spree, or why Daryl grabs Carol, or why Andrea is the first to join Shane, or why Rick ends up shooting the little girl. ... There's a lot in that 2 mins that you wouldn't connect otherwise.
I think action junkies that just watch to see more violence are going to be disappointed going forward. This isn't Zombieland, yet most think it should be.

I think if they did this in like ep 5 or something, it would be TOTALLY worth the build up.
7 eps is a bit too long.
But damn, what an ending. I had fucking goosebumps when she came out.
My friend's gf cried apparently lol.
This is a good thing tho. Even though the deviate from the comics, the one thing they appeared to have kept is that no character is safe. You think "oh this character is too cool or too important to get killed off". Nope. That was the great thing about the comic and this is what will make the tv show just as awesome.
All that talk by Shane about Rick not being able to make the tough choices. Silenced.

too many people are expecting this show to be like 28 days later or dawn of the dead
only similarities are the zombies and even then their not the super fast aggressive ones you see like the other zombie movies
i believe the directors/writers wanted to make this like more like a outbreak of some sorts

^I don't expect it to have fast zombies and more action. I would just like more intense, survival moments like in season 1.
Remember the episodes that were spent mostly on the roof trying to figure out a way out? There wasn't really any action but it was still intense.
Season two has been, for the most part, safe on the farm with pretty much zero danger.

Im a little surprised this dragged on for 7 episodes. They could have sped it up a little bit, I mean, I can hardly even remember more than a handfull of moments from the season. Certainly not more than what could have been squeezed into 5 episodes. That being said, Im glad its not a fast paced run and gun show.
What I really want to know is what Hershel was thinking with not saying anything about sophia being in the barn and them constantly out looking. You know he knew.

P.S. I just realized that the TV show is missing something...and it's what I thought AMC would cut out. I realized it after the last scene yesterday.
The following spoiler will not spoil anything from the TV show...only the comic.
There are no children in the show other than Carl and Sophia...and Sophia is dead now. No twins and Herschel doesn't seem to have his two youngest daughters.
I thought they would cut the children out of the show since that is probably the most fucked up part of the comic as children murder each other and are murdered.

Listen to what Shane says. Regardless if Hershel or Otis knew it was the same little girl, Shane thinks they did, and I bet Daryl and Andrea will too.
Awesome twist with Sophia, this opens up so many different ways they can take the story!

He said "This was usually Otis's job" I didnt think about it when I heard it but maybe what happened is Otis brought the girl to the barn, and Shane offed him before they all got together and he heard they were looking for her. It is debatable whether Hershel knew or not. Im guessing he did but we will find out in 3 months.

AMC is like that. I don't know who runs that place but they're either geniuses or idiots. Can't argue with the results but they could've gotten more out of their shows if they invested more money.
They tried to cut Breaking Bad to 8 episodes and a significantly smaller budget. They tried to cut Mad Men to the same, increase ad time, product placement and cut characters. Both times they were overruled because they don't own the rights to either show and the show runners said fuck you...we'll shop our shit to HBO.
However, AMC owns The Walking Dead so they can cut shit if they feel like it. I'm tempted to believe that HBO would've made a better TWD but at the same time, all the best dramas on TV apart from Game of Thrones are on AMC.

Yeah, that's a really good point. Maybe Hershel really didn't know that there was a little girl zombie in there at all.
Or, maybe it's Hershel's way of keeping them there? Since he said before that once Carl is better and they find the little girl, they can then move on.
Aside, was anyone else reminded of Simple Jack when Shane came out wearing Otis' clothes??
Actually, how come in the first season, guns attracted zombies, but in the 2nd season, they can have a firing range and no zombies? :suspicious:

Don't necessarily need more action but more sense of danger. We need the fear instilled back in the show where you anything can happen at any time. They were too damn safe on the barn which is what made the first half of season 2 boring.

It was to show how desensitized they are to zombies now. Which is why they had that zombie arm fall out of the truck and Andrea picking it up like it was nothing.

Well their character would make anyone suspicious. They come trying to play it cool. The fat guy pissing in the bar and talking bout how he hasn't got ass for weeks. They pretend to be all buddy-buddy then ask if they can stay with them on the farm and all. Not to mention showing off his gun.

Ronin
02-13-2012, 09:56 PM
I know but I'm not spoiling what was in the previous episode...I'm sort of discussing what is probably going to happen in the next episode or two.
Alright, so there's something you've all sort of talked about but never focused on.
This is the first time Rick has killed someone...and two people. He did it without hesitation and he was prepared to do it at the beginning of the scene. Rick has never killed anyone except zombies, which he concluded were already dead by the end of the first episode so he wasn't actually killing anyone.
Broken record but again, this story is about exploring what humans would do given this extreme situation and how the zombie apocalypse would change us as people.
We're all looking for the reason Rick shot those two guys and I gotta tell you, watching it again, it's there but it's a split second. It's not obvious and given Rick's moral standing, shouldn't it be? Rick's also a cop...he's trained to defend himself but he shoots first and instead of shooting to disarm first, he shoots to kill. You can tell me that second guy, the fat one was a threat. A shot to the hand would've been easy but Rick was thinking kill from 10 minutes ago.
I think more than self defense, Rick saw a threat to the group. He saw that killing these two was for the greater good. Hell, even if they didn't attack Rick, Glen and Herschel in the bar and went on their merry way, they've learned that they have a secure farm and Rick knows they're part of a larger group. He made sure they were dead. The next scene in the show will be Herschel going nuts because Rick has killed LIVING men and Rick explaining how it was necessary.
Slight comic spoiler: Rick does this exact thing in the comic. Several times. At the jail, for one...the black prisoner...and at least twice more.
This is what has separated Rick from Shane thus far. Dale figures out that Shane killed Otis to save himself and that he belongs in this world. Shane was willing to kill to save himself and probably others. He has no attachment to Otis but would probably kill to protect others in the group. Now Rick is the same.
In the comics...if you're caught up with the latest chapter, go back and read chapter one. See how much different Rick is in the latest when he's the leader of the town compared to when he was just learning about the zombie apocalypse?
TL;DR: Rick kills a living person for the first time to protect the group. The next episode will be Herschel, Rick and probably Glen talking about how it's either wrong to kill living people (Herschel JUST came to accept killing zombies) or that it was necessary to protect the farm
If I were a betting man, I'd put money on that being the coming storyline, especially as we're probably moving on from the farm soon. If not, well, I don't know...I think that was probably close.
DanHibiki
02-13-2012, 10:04 PM
^Ya I knew exactly what you were talking about and I also didn't expect the new Rick to surface so soon. But hey, no complaints here! He's been soft all season long and I was actually getting a little annoyed of him.
The farm is much too important and he knows that. But my guess is that they are forced to leave it now because the other members of those outsiders will find it.

02-13-2012, 10:07 PM
^^^from the scenes of next week it doesnt look like herschel has time to do any of that ;)
and herschel felt the threat from these guys too so he was being elusive with his responses to them as well, so i doubt he'll go the route of "OMGWTFBBQ did you do"
and didnt he and rick give each other an acknowledging glance after the end of the scene?
DanHibiki
02-13-2012, 10:13 PM
^I agree. Hershel did not want any part of those guys. This scene was the only scene so far where he and Rick were on the exact same level. No arguing, no disapproval of Rick's existence, no differences in philosophy. Like I said, I hope this is where Hershel turns badass now.
I haven't seen the previews for next episode yet. Tempted but I want to go in fresh.

I swear Lori is not as fucking annoying in the comics. Somehow, because the writers made her retarded and that lady from Prison Break plays her...she's just retarded on the show.

I'm fine with the differences from the show and the comic. It'd be boring as hell if they mimic the comic exactly. This way I get to enjoy both.
As long as they keep the awesome stuff from both shows like Rick turning bad ass.

pretty satisfying compared to the previous ones
When Shane was talking to Andrea, saying how they're treated the same by the others, I didn't understand how Shane saw it that way. People seem to treat Andrea a lot better than Shane, at least from what I can recall.
Does anybody else think Shane and Daryl would make good friends? Maybe it's because they're both outcasts of the group.

I think Daryl's character is likeable. He showed lots of compassion looking for the little girl.
But yeah, everyone else is a little meh. I really can't stand Lori's character cause of how dumb they made her as and Andrea's character.

you can say that again!
I am so disappointing with the show! It's getting stupider and stupider.
One, why is Shane being hung out to dry when he was the one that has been saving everyone all along and making the right calls.
Two, Rick is becoming more and more annoying!! HOW DOES IT MAKE SENSE AT ALL WHEN
After shooting 2 people in the bar but he decides to save the third from the same group, while the walkers are coming at them and endangering Hershel and Glen?!?!!?!?
Also, Lori is getting out of control too, the accusations she's making over Shane, which I think is totally driven by her guilty conscience for "cheating" on the husband she thought was dead.
after watching this weeks episode I am ready to give up on this show altogether!
I will probably stick to the comics from now on, at least the character progression makes sense, the annoying people are all appropriately dead and there's more action.

SO the original creator (Frank Darabont) of The Walking Dead was fired in the summer because his vision didn't coincide with the budget cuts AMC was doing. Apparently they were given a tax credit and decided to just pocket it instead.
Frank Darabont Discusses ‘The Walking Dead’ Exit & New Series ‘L.A. Noir’ | Screen Rant (http://screenrant.com/frank-darabont-walking-dead-reason-la-noir-yman-147594/)
Through it all, Darabont remained silent. However, with the first Darabont-less Walking Dead episodes airing when season 2 resumes in February, now is probably as good a time as any for the filmmaker to put the issue to rest.
According to Darabont, the show’s dwindling budget was certainly the impetus for his parting with AMC – though he acknowledges the rift runs deeper.
“…I was really given no choice. I don’t understand the thinking behind, ‘Oh, this is the most successful show in the history of basic cable. Let’s gut the budgets now.’ I never did understand that and I think they got tired of hearing me complain about it. It’s a little more complicated than that, but that’s as far as I want to go with it because otherwise it’s just provoking more controversy and that’s not really of interest to me. I just want to keep my head down and do my job and be allowed to do my job, that’s key, and continue to, hopefully, enjoy it and do good work.”
The mid-season premier was the Glen Mazarra's first show at the helm and he claims it'll be more fast paced from here on.
Robert Kirkman and Glen Mazzara THE WALKING DEAD Season 2 Interview (http://collider.com/robert-kirkman-glen-mazzara-walking-dead-season-two-interview/140258/)
Looking back, do you regret taking several episodes to look for Sophia?
ROBERT KIRKMAN: I think it was important to take the time to get to know our characters. It’s a good thing to lull people into a false sense of security, when the characters are experiencing a false sense of security. I think their time spent on the farm made the Sophia reveal that much bigger of a payoff, but is also going to inform just how the last six episodes are interpreted. I think, if they didn’t have that moment of calm, where we got to know our characters a little bit better and we got a sense that things were looking pretty good for them, this farm would have been a great place for them to be. In the next half of the episodes, we’re going to see that the farm isn’t that great a place. You have to build up what they have, before you can take it away. That’s really what makes the story more interesting.
MAZZARA: Yeah, I think we have a story that we’re telling over 13 episodes. That first half had a great payoff, and the second half accelerates the storytelling. I don’t know if we’d say that we regret any of the episodes that we did. I’m proud of those episodes and, if some people feel that some of those episodes were slower than others, I could argue that we were spending time with our characters.

Ign confirmed that AMC has chosen their actor who will be portraying the Governor in season 3.
Ohhhhh shiiiiit. Shit is gonna get real crazy!
Posted via RS Mobile (http://www.revscene.net/forums/announcement.php?a=228)
AMC just announced that they have cast their "Governor" for The Walking Dead. We don't want to spoil things too much for those people who haven't read the comics, other than to say that The Governor is a frighteningly fiendish antagonist that many fans of the Robert Kirkman comics have been waiting to see portrayed on the hit TV series.
British actor David Morrissey (The Reaping, Centurion) will play the Governor – the leader of a small settlement of zompocalypse survivors known as Woodbury. It also seems like, comics-to-TV wise, that The Governor might be popping up sooner than he does in the comics. The Governor will be appearing in Season 3, which has a 16-episode order and begins production in Atlanta in the spring.

at the scene with the 2 dead cops, was shane not able to find bitemarks and rick said they probably got infected from scratch marks?
then we see them cutting their hands with their blades :suspicious:
good episodes...like the part where rick had 3 zombies pretty much skewered on his revolver...kinda wished they put all the slow scenes together and all the zombie-paced ones together...back and forth got kind of annoying.
only 3 more episodes and mad men is back...gosh it's been what almost 2 years??

Excuse my noobness, but did they explain how people get infected? If its just blood contact, wouldn't most of these guys be zombies by now? Blood splattering on their face with open cuts, hitting in their mouth, eyes, hand etc.

Answer: ^
They haven't and if they follow the comic, they won't.
HOWEVER, they have alluded that the zombie infection is the same as in the comics and not transferred via bites, cuts, etc. The zombie bites will kill you but aren't the cause of...zombification. For some reason, everyone is affected with that already so regardless of how you die (except by anything that destroys the brain or severs the head), you'll come back as a zombie.
That's why the two cops had no bite marks. They died another way and still came back as zombies. I'm sure this will come up again before the end of the season.
So if I understand you correctly, whoever has the infection will turn into a zombie, when they die, so long as their brain or head doesn't get lost in the process?

I thought they did talk about it in season one.
When Rick was talking to the black guy and his son, they mentioned the mom was biten.
Same thing with Andrea's sister. I thought she was bitten too.

I think you read Ronin's post wrong
We are all already infected but just don't know it yet. Once you die, you become a zombie. The cause of the death is irrelevant. Being bit by a zombie merely kills you and is not the direct cause of turning you into a zombie. The people in the show don't realize this yet and thinks being bit is the cause.
So if I shot u in the heart, you will come back as a zombie, bite mark or not.
