Not everyone finds non fiction worthwhile enough to really invest a large portion of their free time too.
I mean, personally I love sci fi and non fiction as much as the next guy, but I would much rather have embedded in my head from reading what happened at the Battle of the Bulge in WW2 as opposed to the Battle of the North Wall or something.
An hour long show is a great alternative to spending a week+ reading a few long chapters.

And on top of that, it's obvious by now that this show is NOT going to adhere strictly to the book versions, so reading the books while watching the show would bring even more confusion to the table. And that's what you guys are suggesting in the first place right ?
"If you wanna know this, you wanna know that, READ THE BOOK" but the book and the show have quite a few differences from what I'm reading in here

the build up to Danny entering the hall of the undying was like 3 chapters that had me falling asleep each time i came to them, there's no way they could have just ran with the dialogue and build up to get her there like they did in the series

the stuff they cut out or skim past isnt very important and only helps to build the characters anyways, its not like they are really changing anything drastically

It's explained far better in the book, though it's still left kinda vague. He may be a mean killing machine, but he seems to not like unnecessary cruelty towards innocent children. He's a very bitter person who threw his lot in with the Lannisters, and he finally had enough at the end.

Don't read this if you haven't read to at least book 4.

Without the two other kids that escape with Bran and Rickon, that means it's quite likely they probably aren't going to split the kids like they do in the books since Bran with Hodor sounds boring as shit. I'm guessing Asha stays with them too.

But we don't know the reasons GRRM put that split up in the books and what he has in store for them in the last couple books...and since we don't have any of the "green seeing" storyline at all so far I have no idea what the hell Bran is going to do all the way to the wall.

These are minor discrepancies now but in A Song of Ice and Fire, everything seems to matter...there aren't many details that aren't there for a reason.

...that and they're going to catch up to the books if that dude doesn't write faster.

Not 100% clear on this, but I believe that the white walkers which are the thralls riding on horses are not human. The ice zombies or "wights" were previously human until they died and were risen by the white walkers.

There are "The Others" or "White Walkers" as the Wildlings call them. They are a whole other race that haven't been seen for thousands of years, but popped up recently.

In the books, they look more like normal humans, but tall and slender with pure white skin and pale blue eyes.

In the TV series they look more like 'creatures'

They create "Wights" which are the zombies. They use humanoid wights as armies, and animals to ride.

Heard great reviews about this show and watched the first episode but didn't pull me in.

Felt like I was watching softcore porn at times, plot was difficult to follow, too many characters and I didn't know the significance of them, etc.

I know I'm drawing to a quick conclusion based on only one episode.
But if the Pilot didn't excite me... not sure what to think then.
I literally cringed and forced myself to finish the episode, only so I can say, I gave it a try.

Had this discussion yesterday after the episode with some friends how I have yet to watch an episode of the new season of shameless and how its going to be great to just power through them in a couple days.

I did this with season 1 of GoT and I think you get a better feel for the story.

There are just SO many story lines going on right now we only get a little bit each episode and it almost feels like nothing progresses.

Really looking forward to what happens with the Hound. Kind of shocked he would get captured like that since hes a badass.

In the books there is alot more buildup and craster is on them for days before they finally snap, if i remember correctly even Mormont is like "ok he's dead lets get out of here" but then the rest of the nights watch just want to eat pig and rape crasters daughters so he gets killed trying to break that up

Also remember almost all the men in the nights watch are all murderers/rapists/etc so it doesnt take them much to turn back with white walkers on their tails lol
