I finally got my SP101 .22LR out to the range today. The grips are small for my hands and the DA pull is stiff as hell but predictable; the thing is a tack driver.

Here is my first cylinder with 8 rounds of Blazer at 10 metres. I'm impressed.

So where are all the good deals this holiday season

I did the 5am reliable lineup last year and am going to skip that one.

With basically every retailer saying prices are going to go up significantly, I don't see why you would skip Reliable.

I was there last year too. I think I made it there at around the same time as you.

:lol

The lineup was just around the corner around that coffee shop when I took my place and sat down.

I keep hearing all the gun shops saying how prices are going way up - makes me wonder why? It just means people buy less, I know I will. Go ahead, keep your expensive stock.

CAD - USD currency exchange is apparently a big driver for this. Either way...

Reliable Sale on Sat Dec 5th.

Who'll be there with me in the lineup?

Well, I know I won't be lining up for anything. All I am kind of looking for now is either a BuckMark UFX, preferred with FO sight, or a S&W 22A-1 Deluxe. All my ammo I don't now reload for I get discount at Italian, so I am good. Besides, I kind of blew my budget once again on guns this year.

I like the Bushnell AR series. They're not too expensive, and they work and look great. My dad bought a knockoff ACOG for his Beretta, and it seems to be working pretty well. Lots of options out there for the discerning tactician.

On a side note, my buddy is heading to Int'l for the big sale. He asked me if I wanted anything, and of course I'm always down for ammo. But there isn't anything else that I really want. The dollar has completely messed up my budget. Making anything 30% more expensive is going to limit the number of folks who can afford said item.

That said, I got my reloading rig set up. I am still looking for an hour or two where I can begin to press some rounds together. But it's all ready to go.

I also bought a family pass for the new Langley range. I'm really hopeful that it all goes through and I'm shooting there soon. But a little part of me is worried that we're all getting scammed. It's just a little part of me. But it's becoming louder and louder as time goes on.

Zedbra

^ was wondering where you were lately. Start pressing those rounds! It becomes therapy and very rewarding. My 7mm was damn accurate before, now it is a laser with my reloads I have worked for it.

originalhypa
11-24-2015, 05:54 PM
I will get that going.
Especially with the increased prices for ammo, it would be good to get some reloads on the shelf.

I tell you man, with family, school, sports, and random things that will take up an afternoon it makes it so hard to get out. That's why I'm really hoping the Langley range opens soon.

Yeah, these early dark nights have stopped my shooting. No more getting home at 4, heading to the range to shoot for hours before dark. Though I did manage to take a morning off, hit the range with my neighbour a few weeks ago. Told the boss I was taking out a client. ;)

It's working well now that I've had a chance to tune it up at the range. I need a spotting scope though, as it's tough to see where the last shot was. With the smaller calibre like .22 and 5.56, the holes look the same. I set it up perfectly at 50 yards. But didn't have the time or scope to go any further. I'm happy with the scope, for sure. Back in August I took out out and spent 2 hours sighting it in. Got home and realized the rail was loose. So it was back to square one yesterday.

I'm looking for optics and sights for sale these days. I like having lots of little bits and pieces depending on what gun I'm working on. My gun safe looks like COD, haha!

I took the t97 out along with the ruger and it was shooting well. I need to do some maintenance on both rifles though. The conditions are a lot different than they were in August.

lol, sighting in without a spotting scope is pretty tough

Was at wholesale for their "black friday" sale, maybe 10 people in the store? lol

i thought at first their 40% off all camo outerwear was a great deal, but then a guy i work with told me they frequently have 30% off it all, so in reality its not that great.. lol

Buddy bought a 7mm as first hunting rifle a few weeks ago and had a GC there so he's looking at some higher end optics, the $1000+ Models in the Leuopold and Swaroski, ended up with the Swaroski 3 to 9 variable, definately very nice glass looking through it but hard to really get a feel when youre not out in the bush

Man, i cant wait till Cabela's and Bass pro open up so i dont have to go into fucking wholesale anymore :/

I have a few spotting scopes - one I bought, the other given to me. For up to 150 yards (which is probably a stretch for the 10/22), both work great. I bought a cheap Firefield from Amazon - it's compact, has it's own case, tripod, and can also be used on a bench. Great deal for $125. http://www.amazon.ca/Firefield-FF11018K-20-60x60SE-Spotting-Scope/dp/B005CGIIE2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1448950589&sr=8-2&keywords=firefield+spotting+scope

I'm also searching for a good deal on a micro dot, but the pricing and reviews/features vary so vastly - not sure which ones to seriously consider. But, the shopping around is half the fun.

hahaha, you bet it's tough. My eyes suck at the best of time. Let alone spotting a tiny hole in paper at 50 yards.

Nice choice on the Swaroski. They make good glass, and unlike a plinking rifle, you want to set it and forget it with your hunting rifle.

Based on the reviews, so many folks on amazon are looking for a thousand dollar scope, but expecting to pay no more than $125. People are crazy!

Exactly. It is a decent $125 scope. A little shaky at higher zoom, but they all are like that. My review was on top. Amazon is good for returning items if you don't like it. 100 yards is mostly what I shoot, and I like using this one for when I shoot my Swiss with open sights.

So alas, my transfer came in and the .22 semi that I have wanted for awhile finally came on sale at Italian for a price I couldn't say no. Picked it up on my way home, now waiting for my regi to come in the mail to get it to the range! It's a Ruger MKIII Hunter with the 6 7/8" fluted barrel.

My new grips came in for my SP101 as well, and they fit my large mitts much better. Rugers are like tequila, once you let one in, then all their friends join the party.

The BC CFO is usually quick, though the first one might take a little longer. On this last pistol, the shop didn't have my address correct. I called the CFO yesterday afternoon and my transfer was in my email at 6:00am this morning.

Oh - and once you get the transfer, you still legally have to wait for the registration card to come in the mail. They will not email the Registration, you have to wait it out.

Patience, grasshopper.

Wanted to get a remington 700 aacsd in 308 to get into precision shooting, however they did not have it in stock. Ended up getting 1000 rounds on .223, 1000 rounds of 9mm, a Leupold vx1 scope and a nikon rimfire scope.

Had the flu the first 4 days of the week, and that always hurts my wallet as I browse. Looks like my Ruger is going to get finely tuned. Ordered a Volquartsen Accurizing kit (new trigger, sear, springs, mag bushing, pins), holster, McFadden speedloader, Williams Fire Sights, and that spiffy MKIII tool from Brownells.

I almost had a little buyers guilt over all of that...... until I found a set of grips I really want but I'm tussling to pull the trigger on them because they are $100....but they're cool....but they're $100.... We all know how this goes...

Managed to get my new VQ Accurizing kit installed - that was interesting taking apart a MKIII Ruger. It's not as bad as many complain about on the internet. It isn't the easiest, but methodical.

The family gave me a few hours to myself today so that I could go to the range, so of course I take those opportunities whenever available. Loaded up, took the big rifles - my 7mm MAG and my K31 7.5x55 - had a good shoot with both of those. I also always take a hand gun or two and I am just getting used to my new Ruger, so it came as well.

There was one other older fellow there and him and I started to chit chat. His name is Johnathan and he represented Canada for years as a trap shooter. At the right age of 77 he had never seen a .22 pistol like my Ruger and even though he was nervous, I showed him how to handle and sight the pistol, also how to bridge his arm to stop his shaking, and on the second magazine he hit 4/10 3" targets from 25 yards - impressive! He let me try his single shot Remington 700 in .204 and I think I have myself a new friend.

Another shooter showed up, so I went to the pistol range and am trying to learn to shoot a 95 score at 25 yards. I can do it under 12 yards no problem, but that extra 13 yards is tricky. I only shot 6 targets for points, needing to adjust my new Williams Fire Sights after the first three targets, but the best I managed was a score of 80. It can only get better with more trigger time.

Overall, it was an awesome Christmas Eve at the range. Now it's Dad time and my kids are so excited they want to go to bed already so that they can wake up and it will be Christmas. The fun years.

On another forum I frequent, there is a guy on there that is a guy younger than me that has been fighting cancerous tumors/operations and they thought the last operation had got it all. On a follow up MRI, he found out on Christmas Eve that there are new rapidly growing cancerous tumours growing behind his heart and was told that he should 'make all the appropriate arrangements while he can'....aka - he isn't going to survive this round. So, I extended the offer to come up and try shooting some different guns, I figured a little gun powder aroma therapy would help take his mind off things. We had never met previously, I just know him from the forum over the last decade.

We decided it would be a New Years Eve thing to do, so I packed up a small arsenal, picked him up in town, and then off to the Squamish range we went. It was a lot fun and it turns out he is a natural good shooter. Pun intended, it was a blast; definitely a good way to spend the day even though it was bloody cold.

I bought my MKIII Hunter at the end of November and it has quickly become one of my favourites. (I can't say it is my favourite because then my Dan Wessons may get a little jelly).

Here is where I am thus far with this pistol - and I don't plan on anything else except lots of shooting:

MKIII Hunter
MKII VQ Accurizing Kit - hammer, sear, trigger, extended mag disconnect, bushing (bye bye mag safety), and spring.
William's Fire Sights rear sights. I may try the William's front sights if I can't stop this Ruger one from coming loose.
Custom grips from 1911grip guy. These are his Slash and Burn grips for the MKIII but I had him make them +0.3 to better fit my large mitts and now they fit perfect.

I still need to adjust the rear sights a bit more, this pistol's sights are different than all my others, but I'm sure I will get the hang of it with a little more trigger time.

Thing is, and I heard this too but initially ignored the advice, the old cliche 'buy once, cry once' generally applies with this hobby. Meaning, just pay the money, get a good gun that you'll enjoy shooting, because eventually you'll end up there anyways. I don't buy that many any more, already sold some off, but now the ones that go into my safe I will have for many years; they are all good shooters that will last my lifetime with good performance.

What guns are you thinking about?

I don't mind spending the money to get quality stuff, but part of the reason I got into shooting pellet guns (which lead to this) was because it was a relatively inexpensive hobby. I don't get to shoot often but when I do I like to shoot a lot so I don't want to be thinking about the cost of bullets because I picked something expensive to run.

As I recall guns that fire corrosive rounds require a more in depth cleaning than ones that don't (correct me if I'm wrong) so for the guns sake I think it'd be best to stay away from that until I get the hang of things like proper cleaning. Right now I think I'll start off with just a .22 of some sort (now that I've learned buying bullets is a lot more complex than buying pellets I'll have to sort out what kind of .22) and go from there, but I'm very open to suggestions on what kinds of guns are good to start with.

Zedbra

Corrosive ammo does require a bit more cleaning, but that ammo is generally for an SKS and that gun can be stripped down in 2 minutes without tools, cleaned, put back together in under 10 minutes. It takes longer to clean most other guns.

You didn't say what kind of shooting you like to do, as that would sway references. For example: fast shooting, long range, accuracy, simply shooting cans etc. For example, I am not really into the AR or 'tactical' look at all - that's just me. I also like accuracy versus just fast semi-autos.

If semi-auto is your thing, then there are a few good choices:

Ruger 10/22 - the workhorse of the .22LR semi-autos. Millions of them sold, and there are a tonne of aftermarket parts you can buy. Stock, they are not the most accurate because of the barrels/internals. Some people dump thousands into this gun (new is around $400-$500). If you want to do your own build, you can buy an action (I suggest Dlask) and then the sky is the limit. If you are willing to pay a little more and want to shoot with a scope/red dot, just buy the Dlask 10/22. It offers reliability and a accuracy at a decent price.

Another semi-auto on the cheap side, but are known to be accurate, is a Marlin 795. I don't have one, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I have a 10/22 that I have done a bunch of custom things, and I don't feel the need for another semi-auto.

If you want to have an accurate bot-action .22LR, there are a few options to consider. Again, based on what you will do with the gun. Are you wanting to take it hiking? Just the range? Hunting? Everyone has preferences and you can ask 10 different people and they will have 20 different opinions. However, some brands and models are known for accuracy at a price and some on a budget.

I just bought a CZ 452 Ultra Lux for accurate target shooting. I read everything under the sun, have wanted a CZ for a long time (they are known for quality and accuracy), and so I finally bit the bullet and bought one on Christmas - it still hasn't arrived yet. CZ offers many models of accurate bolt models - some with interchangeable barrels between .22 an .17HMR.

For ruggedness, Ruger makes a 77/22 bolt action. Similar action as a 10/22 but tighter due to the bolt action - uses the same mags. I know a few guys that hunt with one of these. Not the cheapest, but tough and accurate. I prefer the look and feel of wood so it isn't my thing.

For budget, Savage MKII is worth looking at. I've never owned one, but some like their adjustable triggers but I don't. Again, just opinions.

Here are some other bolt action .22 rifles worth considering - Anschutz, Volquartsen, and Schultz & Larsen (older but accurate)

Then there are lever guns for your inner cowboy that needs to bust out. People that like lever guns REALLY like them. I don't know a tonne about them, but the Henry Goldenboy seems to be the preferred pick of the bunch.

Head on over to rimfirecentral and read a bit. You'll also see the many varying opinions about ammo/barrel length, triggers, sights, scopes etc etc. It's all a part of the hobby.

If you want more details or references, you'll have to let us know: what you kind of shooting you want to do, what kind of budget you have, what kind of looks you are after, and if you want scopes or open iron sights.

Thanks for all the info! My bad for not being more specific. I'll mostly be shooting cans like I have been thus far but I'd like to get into longer range stuff, no plans to hunt or carry them far from the truck/range unless the apocalypse hits. I'm not really into the "tactical" look or semi-autos either, I think I'd be happiest with a bolt or lever with a decent magazine and an appropriate size/zoom scope for the capabilities of the gun (which is the stereotypical looking rifle I guess). I'm okay holding off on the scope until later as I've been told to budget as much for the glass as I do for the rest of the gun, but a cheaper scope could always make its way onto one of the pellet guns when it gets replaced. Budget for the gun is hopefully around the $3-400 range? I'd probably be comfortable pushing up closer to $600 if that isn't sufficient though.

Oddly I never had much interest in the levers until I handled one yesterday during the course and it just seemed cool as hell to me. They don't seem as common though so I might put that "want" on the backburner for the moment.

Zedbra

Levers are cool - more so in areas that don't have our stupid transport laws of being unloaded in a vehicle/ATV. Therefore, the tube magazines are a pain in the ass to unload on a lever. Good range guns, though. Some are definitely better than others and I don;t know too much about them other than Henry seems to be the preferred gun for accuracy and overall 'feel'. The Brownings are expensive, have a short lever through, and apparent,y a crappy trigger. Lever guns should be left with iron sights - that's how they were made and most agree that's how they should remain.

As for glass/scopes - again, you will find all kinds of opinions. Generally .22LR isn't too accurate past 125 yards due to the small calibre being affected by wind etc. Therefore, you don't need a moon telescope on there (like I have on my 10/22) it is just overkill. However, everyone;s eyes are different and I like to shoot at 100 yards and at that range I like being at a 10x magnification or more and most of the old school scopes are 3-9x.

I bought a Nikon Monarch 3 scope last year for my hunting rifle and I have been really impressed with the light transmission and ruggedness of the scope. It has been dropped off my quad, bashed into trees, and it holds zero and Nikon has a no fault warranty - so you buy it for a lifetime. They are becoming more popular and recommended. I just bought another rifle and I added a Nikon - the store owner agreed they are the best glass for the $$ in the market.

Again, everyone has their opinions about scopes. Yes, more money does get you some nicer glass. But unless you want to spend over $1000 on a scope, then I would be looking at a Nikon personally. Bushnells are still a decent value on some of their models - they all have a lifetime warranty as well - not sure if it is a no fault warranty like Nikon.

I forgot - if you want to start in the lower end - look at the Savage: https://www.reliablegun.com/hk/savage-arms-mark-ii-series-mark-ii-fxp-rimfire-bolt-action-rifle-22-lr-21-matte-black-carbon-steel-matte-black-synthetic-stock-10rds-accutrigger

If you want to blow over a grand, look at a CZ with a scope: https://www.reliablegun.com/hk/cz-455-canadian-exclusive-rimfire-bolt-action-rifle-22-lr-525mm-hammer-forged-polycoat-deep-red-stain-beech-stock-wmaple-leaf-engraved-5rds-adjustable-trigger

^ that is just one model that is in stock locally.

Get down to a store and hold a bunch of different rifles, see what kind of fits you and look through some scopes. You have time before your PAL arrives, so go and shop.

I was so keen on black military rifles, that those were my first purchases. The T97, 1911, baby eagle, and 870 blackout satisfied those urges. My family of shooters includes a cz 858, berettas, tavor, and a couple of AR variants. So there is no shortage of cool guns.

But something about a wheel gun, or a lever brings me back to the early days of shooting. The mechanical nature of those actions really involves the shooter. It's easy to get hooked on mechanical guns.

But that Ruger..... that is a beautiful pistol.
Wanstalls had a bunch of barrels in stock for those, just an fyi.

The frustrating thing about bullets is that even once you've determined what sort of ammo to buy you may start running into situations where you'll find that specific brands will fire better than others. It may jam every fifth shot on Federal ammo, but will have no problem with BaurnaL.

Other than my two .22LR semi-autos, all my large calibre hand guns are revolvers. I just love them - simple to work on and hearing them click before pulling that trigger just does something for me.

As for a new barrel on the Ruger - not happening. I have dumped enough into that pistol and all it needs now is a few thousand rounds down the pipe.

Besides, I have already blown the gun budget this year. I won the GOC contest for 6 months free financing and Prophet River had a smoking deal on a gun I have wanted for a long time - a Steyr Prohunter in .270 - topped with a Nikon Monarch 3 4-16x42mm. I had <--a little--> buyers remorse, but the price was right. As soon as I committed to buying the rifle, the owner laughed as someone emailed him while I was on the phone asking why it was off their website. :awwyeah:

That Savage looks like it'd fit the bill quite nicely, I'll definitely be taking your advice and going down the shops and getting a feel for as many as I can before I buy anything.
I loved the mechanical feel of the bolt and lever action, it was a lot like driving a manual car with a really tight transmission. I've got a semi auto air rifle and while it's more convenient to use I find that I go through ammo a lot faster and if anything have a little less fun.

I was more worried about picking a gun that takes an uncommon size, so that I still have the flexibility when it comes to the brand and style of ammo. The last thing I want to do is end up with the gun equivalent of my car and find out I only have 3 bullets to choose from and no small store stocks any of them.

A lot of people say the same thing about bolts versus semi-auto - the fun is in the mechanics of it all.

Things to know going into this: some guns just prefer certain brands of ammo. You have to buy a few different kinds and figure it out on your own. For example, my .22LR revolver prefers lead tips but my semi-auto .22LR prefers jacketed bullets.

Also, some shops ask to see your PAL before they will let you handle a gun. If you explain that you are waiting for your first PAL and this is your first gun purchase, most shops will take the time to and try to teach you 'their opinions'. Some shops may not let you handle the guns - you can simply ignore places like Wholesale Sports as they won't break their policy of no Pal, no handling. WSS wouldn't even take a trigger lock off a pistol I was looking at - after I stopped laughing I walked away.

I'll see if I can dig up some other .22 packages to consider.

I was so debating the buy once cry once thing when I got my first firearm about a year ago but in the end I went cheap and got a Norinco CQA. For me I figured that with spending the money on the firearm plus all the other start up gear I needed would have been quite a bit for something I may not even end up keeping as a hobby. The money I saved vs buying a high end one paid for all my start up gear ie. extra magazines, bullets, all the items I need in a range bag, and even some light mods like new grip, hand guard etc. With that said, even though it's a cheap Chinese AR the gun did receive awesome reviews for what it is. So far I've been happy and it's my learning gun but on my next one there will be no holding back whenever that time comes.

There are always the oddball models of guns that are known for good quality and also being very affordable. When it comes to .22LR rifles: cheap, good operating, and accurate don't usually go hand in hand. But when you jump into the center fire rifles, doing some homework can really save you some money and still have an amazing rifle.

For example - the Swiss K31. Beautiful rifle, amazing trigger, straight pull bolt, and laser accurate - I paid $300 for each of mine. I love shooting them, one of them comes to the range with me every time.

I've been hearing this as well and I finally decided to jump into the deep end with one. I held a Canadian version and I felt it was a little small, well the UltraLux is plenty big enough - I found myself almost bracing it on the mag instead of the stock. I won't be hunting with it, I just wanted a tack driver for plinking at the range up to 100 metres with iron sights. Yes, metres, not yards. So far, I feel like I made the right choice.

I "worked from home" today and low and behold - I ended up at the range around lunchtime. Huh. It was foggy as heck, I was the only one there, and I had a whole bunch of solo time planned for my new CZ 452 Ultralux.

All groups were shot offhand with factory open sights, trying different ammo types. I've found my UL prefers CCI Standard Velocity or CCI Blazer - any jacketed bullets are not predictable. I can only imagine what this thing could do with bags or a stand and a scope.

If you look through the fog in the middle of the picture you can just make out my target stand - that is what I was shooting at when it was at 100 metres.

I was just about to leave but decided to run some more mags through my MKIII Hunter and my fourth round in on the first mag the shot didn't sound right, so I unloaded and had a peek and hoping not to see.....yup, a squib. First time this has happened to me with a .22LR. When I stripped my gun at home later there was unburned gunpowder all throughout my pistol. That could have turned out worse, I imagine.

From advice of others, I decided to order some Birchwood Casey Lead Remover cloths from the States (they don't sell them here). The cloths finally showed up in the mail, so I thought I would try them on my SP101 cylinder. I have never tried to clean the front of the cylinder other than a quick wipe and I got the gun with the front all black. Not even ten minutes of wiping with the cloth and it looks new again. I'm impressed and I recommend these to anyone with stainless guns.

A little out of focus but you can see how black the cylinder face was before cleaning:

As far as I know, all the glock 19 gen 4s were imported from the US with aftermarket barrels. There haven't been any official shipments to Canadia so hence the scarcity.

Talked to the folks at Wanstall's and because of the dollar, apparently the next shipment of gen 3s will be sitting around $1000.

Better jump on that if you want it!

Any recommendations for handgun cleaning kit?

Get a decent Pro Shot kit that you can connect extensions onto. I use the same kit for my .357s as I do my 7mm MAG rifle.

I have a specific Gunslick kit that I use for .22s. I bought both of these kits at incubus' shop. Buy lots of patches for various calibres.

Avoid Outers junk, they break just looking at them.

Get these picks: http://www.amazon.ca/Tipton-549864-Polymer-Cleaning-Picks/dp/B0048KGFHU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1453783618&sr=8-2&keywords=gun+picks

And these or similar brushes: http://www.amazon.ca/Otis-FG-316-3-NBBZ-Variety-Receiver-Bronze/dp/B00EUZSM6A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453783815&sr=8-1&keywords=gun+brushes

^ I have those brushes already but I also just ordered these brushes to try: http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0037UUZQE?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

Also get some good punches and also roll pin punches.

Comfortable and 1911?

What?!

1911 is a classic chassis and can be found in so many forms. I know shooting is a personal feel type sport, but I've always liked the way a 1911 feels. The dovetail always gave me a sense of safety. All it takes is for a glock to take out the webbing in your thumb/forefinger and you'll appreciate the dovetail.

:lol

I'm also fond of the way a CZ/Jericho feels in my hands. I'll take the polymer in a conceal/carry situation. But for the range I love my steel baby eagle. I would love to get one in a .45 cal, but the thought of having to buy and/or reload another caliber freaks me out. Plus, if you're going .45 baby eagle, you're not too far off from the real deal 50 cal DE.

What pistol chassis do you like CRS?

I thoroughly enjoyed picking up my mail today as the rifle I have been waiting to arrive was finally waiting for me! I won the GOC contest for 6 months free financing and I have always had my eye on a new Steyr and I have also wanted to have one nice .270 in my safe....so I found exactly what I wanted at Prophet River and they took care of the rest.

Initially the Nikon I ordered was in stock but in between getting the paperwork sent another employee sold it. So, they contacted Nikon and they only had the 50mm objective in the same scope, so Prophet upgraded me at no extra charge. They mounted the scope and bore sighted it for me, all I need to do is get it to the range. I've been smiling all afternoon and already tinkering with it: cleaned it, added a cheek pad, and also added a sling.

I love that cold forged swirl in the barrel. People have varying opinions about this rifle, but I wanted it and so I got it.

Prophet River was awesome to deal with - big kudos to them. Multiple emails answered almost immediately with updates about every piece of info they came across. When Nikon sent the 50mm scope they did also find and ship the 42mm version (it is a Monarch 3 in 4-16 x 50mm). Prophet said they would stand by their offer to upgrade me for free, but I offered to pay the difference and they wouldn't take it from me. Prophet did not charge me for: shipping, mounting the scope, and bore sighting the scope. Top class owner and staff - this is my second rifle I have bought from them now since Christmas and I know it won't be my last.

Owner at International - I had bought a bunch of stuff there in the past from Ryan and they had a Nikon scope I wanted but Scott freaked out when I asked if he would match Reliable's price (it was only about a $90 difference for the same scope - so why not ask), spouting that he would only make 20% mark-up and that's not enough. The whole time he was pacing back and forth and kinda talking loudly to the floor. I walked out the door and haven't been back; he can have his precious mark-up and I will spend my thousands elsewhere.

Reliable didn't work out well, the girl there (who is known for her attitude) ignored me for a while, eventually dropped the scope on the counter and walked away. As much as I hated to do it, I ordered the scope from Cabela's (cheaper than both locations). I try to support my local gun shops and I stop at almost all of them throughout the provinces as I travel, but if they want to throw an attitude and be their own worse enemy, then I just scratch that off the list as a business that will get any of my money.

In this crappy economy and poor dollar, I would be happy to get 20% for my retail commodities. Gun shops are going to feel that low dollar this year and inventory will have dust.

There haven't been a lot of chassis that I don't like.

I'm a pretty big fan of Sig, M&P, Glock, and CZ (though that's basically saying Sig twice).

The only manufacturer that I'm not at all a fan of (due to the placement of their safety) is Springfield.

HK fit a bit too big for me but that's about all I can think of.

Gun shops have always been very cliquey, even more so in the 90's. But because of guys like incubus and a few other fellows at Int'l, I feel good when I go in there. I don't have any dealings with the older fellows there, and I'm just fine with that. They have a bit more of an old school way of communicating with customers.

I need to get my hands on a glock. I haven't shot one in years, but they're incredibly popular. I've always thought, "why shoot a glock when you can shoot something better". But the time has come to give them a chance again.

I did some mild bedding on my last 10/22 stock.
Use tape between the barrel and the stock when using JB weld so you can pull it apart if you ever want to.

You can then sand down the JB to make the perfect fit.

So I managed a little time at the range today. I didn't have a lot of time, it was pouring rain, and I only had factory Norma 130g and Federal Blue Box 150g ammo to try. I forgot my cleaning rod and I didn't bother with a Chronograph - I'll get to that when I reload.

Everything was tight, the mag, the bolt, the safety - all of it. Smooth, but stiff - I needed to push the bolt with similar force as my K31. A fellow showed up about an hour into my range time (I was there by myself prior) and he immediately walked up and asked to look at it, he recognized what it was immediately and had only seen one on the internet prior. Me too, prior to buying it online.

He was a big Tikka fan and had three with him in .308, so we agreed to do a gun swap later into the shoot. The Tikka T3 Varmit bolt was really smooth and light - I could operate it with my pinky. When he tried my Steyr, he thought that the cartridge was jammed as the bolt needed a good push to get it to close. I tried a Steyr bolt in the past, so this is not news to me, but the Tikka bolt action impressed me, to say the least. One of his rifles also had the new Trijicon 4-16x50mm illuminated scopehttps://www.trijicon.com/na_en/products/product3.php?pid=RS29-C-1900020 and the glass was nice, though I didn't care for the large illuminated cross hairs.

What I learned about the Pro Hunter:

* The 8.7 twist rate balances 150g bullets well - much better than 130g, so this is a .270 with a punch. I can work with that.
* The trigger is 3.5lbs with only a couple of millimetres of creep - I will work on that.
* The machine tolerances are tight tight tight.
* Not sure how I feel about the synthetic mags - time will tell. They were stiff to load both cartridges into them and also rounds into the chamber, I'm sure they will loosen up.
* Takes along time to cool the barrel between 3 or 4 shot groups
* The stock comb height works well for me with high Talley rings and the cheek pad with only 3-4mm of height
* I kind of like the two stage mag insert feature - single load with the mag half in or tap and load from mag - great hunting option.
* This thing is loud for a .270 but the recoil is minimal compared to my 7mm that I usually shoot.
* The Nikon scope is easy to adjust and reset zero without tools - very nice optic for this rifle

Setting up - target tree is for my .22 CZ

I'm really liking the MK25. Sig has changed its parts like the extractor and the grips, and the MK25 makes them more traditional (traditional grips, short extractor) plus three Italian-made Mec-Gar magazines. I think the MK25 has better overall fit and finish because they have to phosphate coat stuff so it seems they went over it better.
So far only about 300 rounds through it but it feeds, fires and extracts beautifully.

Thank-you for the compliments. I'll absolutely keep you in mind if I want to sell those two. :)

Jimbo, I really like that Mossy 590 you have. The Bayonet is such crazy overkill, that it just works! :lol

I hit up the Langley rod and gun club with a buddy the other day. It was a nice experience. Small and indoor, but only about 15 minutes from my house. I brought out my pistol collection, and the 10/22 for the boy to shoot. We had a good time out there, but they sure like to take things slow. No loaded mags on the bench, no more than five rounds per mag. I walked out of there with a smile on my face, and about the same amount of ammo that I came in with. But it was a lot of fun. Plus, its nice to shoot the pistols indoor at this time of the year.

I've used it to obliterate some cabbages before, haha

Sadly I haven't shot my pistols in over a year...I can't find a range that I like. Either it's too damn crowded, too far of a commute, too restricted rule-wise or something.
A buddy of mine shoots at a range in Chilliwack and he says good things about it, but gotta be a member.

A buddy sent me some pics of the new Langley range. It looks like its coming along, albeit far slower than I ever expected.

I found my joy in multiple ranges. Abbotsford for when I want to bring everything and spend 4 hours there. Brookswood for when I want to kill an hour with a buddy shooting a few dozen rounds. DVC when Im ballin like a pro, but nothing beats outdoor shooting. A couple buddies, an ATV, and a few hundred yards to really stretch things out. Add them all together, and its not too bad at all.

I picked up a few sets of Burris Signature medium rings and thought I would see what scope I could fit on my 452 Ultralux without removing the rear sight. I am planning on going with a Williams or dioptic set-up on the rifle, but wanted to try a scope out and see how it shoots that way.

I quickly tested a 6-24 x 50mm Sniper scope I had laying around - there was no way that was going to fit. So I broke open a new Zeiss Terra 4-12 x 42mm I had sitting around from a warranty replacement and it just barely fits on the rifle. There is maybe 1-2mm between the front bell and the rear iron sight and about 2mm between the rear ocular of the scope and the bolt. I'm going to try to shoot this set-up this weekend, if possible.

My Simmons had the same problem. But it's a $50 optic, compared to something worth so much more.

Every rifle/mount is different depending on scopes. I just in general have not liked this Zeiss since day one - hence it is in the box.

For the IPSC info, your best bet is to contact the head of the IPSC shooters club at your range. I know Abbotsford has a number of sub clubs run by folks who have a lot of knowledge on the subjects.

On a different note, I have a buddy who is crazy about this Liberals coming into power thing. Yesterday he was talking about how they're going to take away the restricteds and semi autos and how we have to join some new gun coalition to protect ourselves.

It was then that I had to remind him that he pretty much fucked the gun owners of Canada when he fear-sold his pistols and semis, and failed to renew his membership at the local range. By reducing the numbers of safe gun owners, he is basically saying to the antis that he has given up. Instead of hiding in fear of a Liberal gov't, he should have gone out and bought another pistol, or another semi rifle. Instead of giving up, he should have maintained his range membership and joined a sub club. Hell, he should have donated to Ducks Unlimited!

In the last 6 months, I bought another pair of semis, a reload kit, and joined a second, then a third gun range. Combined with the internet, and the coalitions (not the NFA...) we won't be taken advantage of like they did in the early 90's. A quick look at the Swiss Arms debacle shows that as a group we are strong.

Mini-rant over.

^^^ which is why everyone needs to be signing this petition to have the ar15 de-classified.
https://petitions.parl.gc.ca/en/Petition/Details?Petition=e-111

I know this petition has been posted before, but you need to sign this if you have not already done so. This is important to all firearm owners, even if you are a hunter or are not into the "tactical" scene.

Having a firearm classified as restricted for arbitrary reasons simply does not make sense. If we continue to allow the government to do this, it is only a matter of time before they start moving on to other firearms. What's next, restricting/prohibiting firearms that shoots cartridges that can kill a human being (ie. anything larger than a 308? Or arguably all of them?) or any firearm that makes too loud of a bang? (which is why we should legalize suppressors. But let's do things one at a time). I know some of these examples may sound a little silly, but so is classifying a firearm as restricted because it simply looks a little scary. Listen you dummy, firearms are inherently dangerous. People are not going to choose which firearm they are going to shoot based on what looks the scariest.

Federal Liberals to hand final firearms approval back to RCMP bureaucrats | National Post (http://news.nationalpost.com/news/canada/canadian-politics/federal-liberals-to-hand-final-firearms-approval-back-to-rcmp-bureaucrats)

I was so hopeful that the Liberals would have far bigger things to worry about that they would leave the gun owners alone. Even in the years that guns were pretty much outlawed in Canada, there was still gun crime.

One quick look at the stats shows that criminals have always used guns. But also that firearms related robberies have gone down in the same time that gun ownership became more popular in Canadian society.

Firearms and violent crime in Canada, 2012 (http://www.statcan.gc.ca/pub/85-002-x/2014001/article/11925-eng.htm#a4)

I don't believe that the we should have a national police force. I also don't believe that giving the RCMP the power to approve what firearms we can own is a good idea. It won't make Canada any safer. All it's going to do is limit the type of firearms that we, the law abiding gun owners, can own.

As Mr. Horse used to say, "no sir, I don't like it"

save your money and use it for ammo, upgrades don't make you a better shooter it comes down to trigger time. upgrades do help like better sights and trigger but get the fundamentals down first.

agreed.

Don't get me started on the topic. Canada is at a 43 year low for gun crimes. 2/3 of all gun murders are committed in Manitoba by male aboriginals, yet the Libs want to blame an object and not the social issues. Plus they want women's groups to help decide what guns the rest of the law-abiding citizens should own. That would be like asking me to decide what medical procedures should be legal in the country. And if 2/3 of the victims are aboriginal males - shouldn't aboriginal men be on that panel?

I listened to an interesting interview on CBC radio this morning, it was the mother of one of the boys that committed the Columbine shooting. She just released a new book and all the proceeds are going towards mental health issues - the crux of what is the problem outside of criminal behaviour.

I can dig up but I read another very interesting author that has written books from both sides of the 'gun control' situation in the USA; he approaches the topic with complete open mindedness and uses up to date data. In the USA over the last 20 years, what they can track (as some states have different laws), law abiding citizens purchased 200-300 million new guns and the death rate by guns has been cut in half. Flies in the face of those that suffer from media fear that more guns = more deaths. It's more like, less opportunities, no jobs, more criminals = more deaths.

cgn goes full retard at times.
There was an article in the G&M about a family shooting day in Mission. There was a small group of individuals who were wearing hoodies with a logo that had a swastika on it, and the name "the mad nazis". aimpoint for me or trijicon mro

I remember the days when i used to dream of expensive setups now im just realistic and put more into ammo and time in the range.

you can have the nicest setups but if you have no money for ammo or time for the range it just becomes sexy decorations.

Heard nothing but good things with the spectre and I want it for my primary.

Heard you should spend just about the same amount for a good glass/scope as the rifle it's on.

If I score a MCX in the future I could always throw the DR on there.

Whats this Aimpoint you referring to?

I get that a good sight will cost money. However, I cannot justify buying something that worth more than the gun I put it on. Keep in mind that you're not in a life or death situation when you're at the range so you don't absolutely need to best of the best.

Practicality is what I generally go for when getting a sight. Aimpoint PRO or any of their other models are a good buy. The PRO being the most cost effective.

I get practicality and spending your money wisely, however I can also see why someone would drop $1000-2000 on a sight. It's the "cool guy factor;" you want to look cool at the range and have something to talk about with others who are into firearms as well. Some people are going to want things not a lot of other people can get. Anyone can buy an AR, but not everyone can afford to drop $3500 on a Knights Armament one. Same thing with sights. Are you going to use your crazy expensive red dot for combat or when SHTF? Most likely not. But I can understand how someone can drop that amount of money into a hobby they enjoy and for their own self pleasure. That's why I had no problems dropping $900 on a aimpoint t2 as soon as it came out. I'd probably look into getting a Elian specter too if I didn't mind the size and weight of it.
It's kind of the same analogy as why someone would spend money or mod their car to something way more powerful than it needs to be for everyday driving. Or why someone would get a Rolex over a cheapo $10 watch.

Forgive the typos. Writing on a phone.

You probably see a lot of these folks coming into the store. It reminds me of the old days of RS, where a guy would talk so much trash online. Then the day of the meet comes, and he's the skinny little dude who keeps to himself.

:lol

Or why someone would get a Rolex over a cheapo $10 watch.

You can also factor in resale value. You're always going to get more value for your Trijicon or Elcan, over your NC Star or Tasco. Not that there is anything wrong with either, but you can't argue against the quality of Mil spec equipment.

I had a great 'work from the range' day today. My kinda day. I got my new Steyr dialed in at 100 and I met my first mall ninja.

You name the highest price glass or rifle, and that is what he wanted or needed to have because the internet told him so. His newest two acquisitions were a Sako Finnlight in 375 H&H with a Swaro Z6 1.7-10 illuminated scope on it. This was brand new and he had already replaced the scope because the 'old' Zeiss 5-25 was just 'too much' magnification and his one and only hunt that proved to be not needed, so he was going all low power. Anyways, this guy could not hit the broad side of a barn - even with his lead sleds. And this infuriated him, swearing so much any sailor would have been envious.

His other rifle was an AR platform in .308, I forget the name but it was heavy as hell and he said it cost over $5000 with the upper and his new tactical scope, something else brand new and 'what CGN says is the best', cost him over $3000 as well. Anyways, that scope he didn't read the instructions and it was moving up and down quite a bit. I noticed 4 tension screws at the front and asked him if he needed to tighten those? He started swearing even more.

I let him try my new Steyr Prohunter, because he apparently had two of them - one in .270 and the other in 300 WM, and both of them didn't shoot well for him either. I told him to try mine out, with my new Nikon scope. Same thing, he has about a 4" group in his lead sled and I was shooting 1" groups at 100 yards with only a front wood rest and factory Norma ammo. He liked the scope and asked how much I paid for it? When I told him under $600 he started swearing again. Anyways, the guy was nice enough to me and all, but I cannot stop giggling and needed to tell someone; he's on CGN so I can't tell the story there.

Target attached - Norma 130g .270WIN at 100 yards shot with my Steyr Prohunter. The 4th round was always giving me a flyer - I think the barrel just gets too hot.

Targets are targets, I couldn't care less about people talking big about their range shots really. Anyone with enough time can get in their practice and take 10 seconds a shot to get good groupings.

Taking an animal is when you're actually tested. The amount of people who I've grown up with whether they be my parents and grandparents friends or even my own who have gotten into hunting who can actually shoot when the pressure is on is like a quarter of the gun owners I know lol.

If you can't get your shots dialed in at the range, please don't go out in the bush and start gut shooting all the animals lol

I agree - and many 'hunters' never practice like they play; hence, I shoot off-hand more often than not. I cannot figure out these guys that come with Lead Sleds, clean their rifle after every shot, want a clover leaf grouping, and then keep buying different guns and throwing money after that clover leaf yet claim they are doing it for hunting.

I got to shoot a new gen sub 2000 yesterday, and was impressed. We were stuck at the 25 yard range (stupid leos.....), but with the 9mm and iron sights it was perfect. My grouping was 10 shots in the 3" target. Nothing to get excited about, but since I was shooting from a standing position I think it was a good start.

I'll be going to our AGM in a couple of weeks to voice my concerns about the club renting out both the 50 and 100 yard range. It's absolute garbage that I am relegated to the 25 yard, even though I'm a member of the club.

For the record, yes I am pissed about that.

Costco is where I got my safe. But for $350, you're not going to get something with a lot of space. For $469, you can get a nice safe from there, but it's only 2.3 cubic feet.

I bought a sheet metal style safe from Canadian Tire for $149. It's a big safe, but I only use it to store ammo, or overnight storage of guns that I'm working on. I wouldn't keep my collection in there.

Does anyone know where I can get a Ruger Charger pistol in Canada?

Literally 25 minutes after you left, I ordered a charger from a place in Kelowna. I bought the basic charger for just under $400. Not bad at all. One shop in Alberta had a charger with a nice Boyd's wood stock. But I'd rather start with fewer parts so I don't feel bad when I change them out.

Mine has let me down before. It doesn't like certain battery brands, and will sometimes jam. The key "works"... but not always. In the last three years, I've had a couple of instances where I found myself wasting 5 minutes, cursing and messing with the key.

I have two 10 gun cabinets - got them both for $99 on sale at different times. Upright Metal Gun Cabinet, 10-Piece | Canadian Tire (http://www.canadiantire.ca/en/sports-rec/hunting/firearm-security-protection/upright-metal-gun-cabinet-10-piece-0755652p.html?utm_campaign=bazaarvoice&utm_medium=SearchVoice&utm_source=RatingsAndReviews&utm_content=Default)

One of the reviews I saw about that Bow/Gun cabinet said it is not tall enough for a shotgun - and I have a few rifles and shotguns that are long in both my safes so it wouldn't work for me.

Even though my cabinets have small shelves in them, I have 5 handguns stacked on them between the two. I use a glove between them and styrofoam on the metal shelf.

If you are buying the Stack-On cabinets, then wait until CT has a sale as they are often on sale for 50% off. They go on sale many times per year.

Rule #1 of buying anything from CT is never pay full price unless you're in a rush, everything goes on sale eventually and usually for a fair bit off (like when some of their tools hit 75% off). What you can do is go to customer service and ask when the last time an item was on sale and if they'd be willing to honour the sale price, usually if it was within the last few weeks they'll give it to you for the old sale price.

While we are talking about CT pricing, another thing to consider is that many of them are franchise locations and just because on store has a product on sale does not mean that another one will honour that pricing. Often they do, but sometimes they won't based on their limited stock or cost to bring it in.

Of course, the first thing I did was tear it down and see if it really is just a 10/22 receiver in a short stock.

Yes, it is. It also uses AR mags, which is great because so does my T97. Time to kick up the parts collection and doll this thing up. I have a busy next couple of days with work and sports, but I'll try to get out to the range on thursday or friday and snap some pics.

+1 for Grouse River in Kelowna. They were easy to deal with, and helped me through what ended up being a very easy process.

I am very happy with my Ruger Charger. Even though I am still waiting on the regi, and still haven't fired it yet. But the tinkerer in me is pleased.

I also picked up a buffer bolt, extractor, and extended mag release to go with the flash hider and Buckmark optic. Tomorrow night I'll have some time to do file the internals for the bolt release. I'd like to get more involved in the trigger on my 10/22's. They're a ton of fun to shoot.

Looks awesome! I filed my sear to have a lighter trigger on my 10/22. It can be done - just go slow. I already posted youtube vid on doing this mod.

I'm going to work on my reloading station and the 10/22 triggers this weekend. The kids sports are winding down, which leaves me with a little bit of Steve time.

Sportsman show is this weekend, and we're heading out on Sunday. Is anyone else going?

fuck, seems like costco no longer carries their gun safe.. i swear it was there under a month ago :okay:

Hypa, time to upgrade and sell me yours!

drove around today checking out everywhere i could think of/find for gun safes, fuck the selection is super limited.. best selection by far was at the Grandview Canadian tire, but the majority were $800+

If costco still sold theirs, id snap that one up, even with the mixed reviews.. best option seems to be this buck commander bow/gun cabinet, wholesale has it on for $249

http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/71BpnfgudcL._SL1500_.jpg

the door feels flimsy as fuck but apparently it's decently rated.. hmm

Door IS crap, and the lock is only 4 pins with no security pins. I have raked these open in less than 10 seconds.

No need to damage the door when the locks are so junk you can open them with a bobby pin.

Invest in a good safe if you have some money into the guns.

It would seem that the wait was worth it; my CZ 527 in 7.62x39 ahowed up today after three weeks touring around the country with Canada Post. The dining room now smells like Ballistol and it is now sparkling clean. From the few dry fires, the trigger is CZ crisp and the set trigger is very light - we'll see how that works at the range.

Edit - tried it on my trigger scale and it has no creep and breaks at 2.5 lbs. The set trigger breaks at 1 lbs. This is going to be a fun shooter.

The walnut is naturally quite dark but the flash pics really show the grain.

Oh I know, I've already picked out a Marlin XT-22 I'll be picking up once I get the card and I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a good deal on a nice K31. While I've been waiting to find a K31 I keep seeing nice SKS' pop up and I'm half tempted to grab one. Then I came across pictures of one with an Archangel stock and a 5/30 mag and I get even more tempted and I don't even like shooting semi auto.

It's a (financially) dangerous game!

It really is a wild gun. So many technological advancements for a gun that has been around since before WW2. I can see why you like it so much.

That said, I spent about an hour after the outdoor show last night cleaning my 10/22, and adding some mods to my Charger pistol. I am finding that just like cars, I prefer to tinker with my guns over anything else. Sure, I love to shoot. But there is something to be said about taking a POS (like a t97) and making it into a reliable, fun gun to shoot.

If only I could reload with that much confidence.
:yuno:

I'm using Hodgdon Titegroups powder, and in my 38spl it says to use .27-.32 grains.
Problem is, my Lee autodisc goes as low as .30

So, I'm stuck starting out using a minimum of .30 for my reloads. I'm a little nervous because there isn't much room for adjustment using the titegroups. Should I go ahead and load them that close to max for my first reloads?

I'm using the roands in my S&W 357 revolver.

Zedbra
03-07-2016, 11:35 AM
I use Titegroup for my .357 and I had issues with the Lee Auto Load disk not always dropping the powder for the low .38SPL loads. I was getting multiple squibs which can be very dangerous.

In the end, I have just decided to only load .357 cases with heavier loads. I can get better consistency with hot loads and it also does not give you any build-up in the cylinder that the .38 shorter cases will. I had to heavily hone one of my cylinders because the previous owner shot a lot of .38SPL loads and when I fired .357 I could not get some of the cases to eject easily.

So, if you want to use Titegroup and you want to use your LEE (I have the same set-up), then you are going to have to hand measure each load. I am almost at the point where I want to hand measure everything anyways. A few squibs will do that to you.

Just found a thread I started a while ago on CGN about this, hypa: CanadianGunNutz.com (http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1284454-Getting-squibs-with-my-Lee-Turret-Auto-disk)

That's what I was afraid of. Using only 357 is okay with me, as you mentioned it doesn't have the same issue with fouling.

That said, I'm not interested in messing around when it comes to containing explosions. I'm going to get my hands on a scale so I can double check the actual weight of the rounds.

I find that the Auto Disk is fine for the heavier loads of .357 and I am not competing so absolute accuracy is not needed. All other loads, I weigh each powder load by hand on my digital scale. The beam is a pain in the butt.

This is the scale I use and it is surprisingly accurate, does not drift from zero, and remembers the last unit of measure you had it set on (grains). I bought two in case one was junk but it has been perfect now for over a year.

Yeah, I bought my first K31 from them in Langley for $299 and then a case of G11 480 rounds for an additional $299. My last K31 and K11 I paid $300 each for - delivered. boo yeah.

Consider me very jealous, I saw a few in the $350-400 range on CGN when I joined a month and a half ago but now they all seem to be in the $450-600 range. If I could get one under $400 delivered I'd be happy, if I could get it for $300 I'd be insanely happy. In the meantime I'll just keep refreshing every place I know of that one could pop up on and hope I get lucky.

Hand loaded my first 10 rounds today. 124gr RN with 3.8 grains of Titegroup. OAL: 1.15"
Nothing special, but it took me a while to adjust my press just right, and to measure each load. Got a few bs rounds, but it's all good.

going to load another ten in 3.6 and 4.0 grains tomorrow before I take them out to the range to test out.

Always start your seating die screwed up (tallest) all the way and then work your way down. When you feel it hit the bullet on the upstroke, start using half turns or quarter turns and measure the OAL after each pull.

Are you not crimping afterwards?

"how was the hunting show Hypa? i didnt end up going

It wasn't a bad show at all. Lots of fishing booths kept my brother happy, while I ogled the 1000cc/turbo Canam and polaris RZR. What a way to spend $28k!

I chatted with Ryan at the Int'l booth, and checked out the modular rifle from MDT at the Grouse River booth. Tried to make a deal with a guy on a GSG round drum too. He wanted $125 for it, and I asked if he could give me a better show price. He declined, so I walked away. I'm not paying sticker price for a magazine project that is going to eat up my time.

I'll order that shit online.

Ah, you're using jacketed projectiles. You can get away with a heavier load with the jacketed. Whereas the lead slugs that I'm using are limited to a lighter load. I have 148gr and 158gr lead, but it looks like I'll save my 148gr for when I get a different powder.

Let me know how it likes the 4 grain.

I am crimping after it's all done. It's a tight crimp, that's for sure. I took a little lead off my test rounds the other night.

As for the seating, I was pretty close to dead on with the arbitrary setting I started with, so it only took a minor change to get it right. Lucky me!

Hopefully I'll get the chance to head there later today. Funds are a little short right now, but there's always a budget for window shopping.
