Goldobin is only 21. I have no issues with him starting out with Utica. If he works hard, he will likely be the first call-up when injuries occur... or when a veteran struggles. The 1st period was a bit of a snoozer, but the rest of the game certainly didn't disappoint. Gogolev and Walker both scored a pair and every time I watch a Royals game, I'm more and more impressed with Joe Hicketts. That kid is going to be something special.
On the Brandon side, Eric Roy and Ryan Pulock are amazing. They were a real treat to watch

I mean, hopefully he turns his career around because we just acquired him and that would be amazing, but this strikes me as yet another Jensen-Etem, etc. trade that Benning has made multiple times and, in the end, we ended up losing a draft pick for someone who got us no further ahead than the previous guy.

Bure had an explosiveness to his speed, which made him look spectucular and gave him that extra half a step to getaway, but he wasn't THAT much faster than his opponents. And I'm saying this as a huge Bure guy.

McDavid is whole other level. So much power in all his strides, not just the first 2 or 3, looks effortless. You don't realize he's actually that fast without seeing him pull away from guys trying to chase him down. Then you realize that he's doing this while controlling the puck at the same time. And he'll probably still be faster and stronger in another year or two

Like most, I questionned having Dorsett in the lineup over Boeser. Dorsett has proved me wrong, for at least this first game, as he played well and with an uptempo game. It seem that he really got under McDavid's skin too.

I was listening to commentary as to why Dorsett was put in instead of Boeser and it made sense. Brock will get his shot for sure, no need to worry. I actually like that Green is taking this early step into letting his players and management know that the fans will not dictate his game plan. As much as we are excited to see Brock play, it has to work towards the team goal of winning. In this case, Dorsett was needed for the physical, agitator role (and it worked).

Was Willie D back coaching this game? No line matching, plugs playing too many minutes, no adjustments to lines that aren't working (seriously Eriksson is a dead weight to Horvat and Baertschi)... I hope this isn't going to be a "long" season....... I don't mind if we lose, I expect that, but I don't want to lose the same way as before.

Eriksson hasn't been as bad as some of you make him out to be. Sure, hes not living up to the contract he was given but things like putting him in the press box or calling him "dead weight" is baffling. I can count a few times in last nights game where he made some nice plays (dished to burmistrov in the slot and he misses the net, drop pass to horvat in the neutral zone which he goes in a rings off the post, almost scores a goal in front). Some of you act like he has zero impact on the game, and i wonder if you've even watched it at all.

I don't mind him on the bo/sven line, he creates space for them to work by standing in front of the net. He brings aspects to that line that they would otherwise not have with a guy like Boeser. Eriksson is a lot better along the boards and down low. I'm not saying hes better on that line than Boeser, but against a team like Ottawa who clogs the neutral zone and forces you to dump and chase it makes sense.

Again, it sucks to see a 6m cap play like a 2 or 3m cap but you can blame Benning for that. It's still so early on in the season. Boeser will get his chance to play, he's a young kid and has a lot of hockey left to play in his career.

Least he's cheap but the Sedins deserve a better linemate imo, i'd put JV in there for a spell. It's been nice to see him put his head down and just hustle. He's quicker and more relentless than he's ever been.

Virtanen does look a lot better this year. He's noticeably faster and i wish he would do more with it. Part of me thinks that he doesn't want to disappoint TG but there were a few occasions where he would get this burst of speed coming in on the dman looking like would blow right by them but then just stop up and take a clapper. It's the safe thing to do and coaches are always happy you got the shot off and most likely a faceoff in their zone. But i cant help but wonder if he felt like he had the freedom to dangle a dman if he could get an even better scoring opportunity.

Vanek's been good in the offensive zone, but definitely agree that he was lazy as fuck in the d and neutral zones last night.

That's kind of what I expected, though.

I think I'd like Vanek more with Bo and Bae and put Eriksson with the Sedins. The Sedin line is just so slow with Vanek on it (though they have been the only positive corsi line)

Burrows, Kesler, and the Sedins all signed sweetheart deals to stay in Vancouver, although, we know Gillis/Gilman played hardball with the Sedins and now Burrows. Probably with Kesler, I'm guessing. Those 4 contracts (and Lu's), some shrewd acquisitions (Hamhuis, Ehrhoff, Malhotra, Torres), and some typical Salo bad luck (that turned out great) got us to Stanley Cup contention.
