What's under the hood?

Its a fully built B18 with liners, pistons, conrods, cams, racing head, etc etc. I'm looking to get a tune as soon as it gets here. Does anyone have any suggestions for good tuners in the lower mainland?

Its amazing, especially when I put a set of slick Hoosiers on it. Tein coilovers are magic when combined with polybushes everywhere.

Its not cheap, but worth it if you love the car and will keep it long term. It cost me about $3k for shipping BUT....I dont have to pay tax because I haven't lived in Canada for a while.

In hindsight, I should have brought ten cars with me....like evos, skylines, supras...and sold them to pay for my racing addiction!

i sat in it and the interior isn't much better than a Dodge Dart.

I drove it around the block. I wanted 10 mins of my life back. It was pretty bad.

although the exhaust note sounds ok....

My GT is hand built. I toured the factory and it's pretty neat. The body welds is the only robotoic assembly in the entire line. Everything else is finished by hand.

The Ghibli and levente are garbage Chrysler products with very little Maserati DNA. Even the new quattroporte isn't as "Maserati" as the old one. Too much Chrysler shit in them. The GT was designed and built during Ferraris ownership and thus there was no dodge shit. Engine is Ferrari and chasis is shared with the quattroporte of the same years. The new ones are a fucking joke and everytime I see a jeep grandserati I wanna throw up.

They've really lost their way nowadays. FCA ruined a 100 year old brand steeped in racing heritage and history.

I had a gibbles when my GT was in for service. They drive quite well but seriously overpriced with all the Chrysler Uconnect shit

Yeah Saturday afternoon. I’m not familiar with the parking lot so I took it on faith. I was digging rocks out from under my car for days.... no regrets :p

Sad to see my Volvo s40 go. Drove it for 12 years problem free and sold it recently. Upgraded to a 2017 Subaru sti because I wanted to keep driving a manual with an addition of awd. Night and day difference between the rides.

seem to hold 60k or so for a decent one. 09's are 55+ for sure.

it lacks the finesse and the front end feel of a cayman / 911, but the brute force is the same as the turbo (with less refined power build up)

you can feel the weight of the car, its clumsy at times, but the damn thing is so capable.. forgiving as well.

car is extremely entertaining on its own right and matches / beats 911 turbos on certain years / models.

the lacking thing on the GTR as an overall package is refinement. it rides terrible and cruising around, its only got 6 gears, compared to the 7sp PDK... but its a bargain performance car that can put a smile on most people's faces for sure!

I would love to bring over the cars but there are some really expensive taxes I paid in getting them into Ireland so I am reluctant to move them from there.

I may import something directly from Japan as it would make more sense. But I heard insuring a RHD can be tricky here and I am not sure if I would be able to register a JDM import with my Visa. I need to do more research. Part of me thinks I should just sell both and buy an R35 :)

I would disagree, the R35 is plenty fun for what its made to do. Of course its boring, if using it in stop-go daily traffic I would agree with you, but take it out on the track or even a nice drive through one of bc's interior roads, and you get a chance to see what it can really do.

Mods are expensive, but what would you expect? Its not a civic or an frs (no offense), nor is it a porsche or lamborghini. My civic is more fun to drive in the city cuz every time I corner it feels like I'm sitting on the wooden roller coaster at PNE lol

I cant compare much because I've only taken my GTR and s2000 to the track. But the GTR is definitely more capable than my S2000, you could easily push it hard without having to correct the car, and as tofu said its way more forgiving. I always compared the GTR as a meat cleaver, where you can just sort of power through everything. It might not be beautiful or have that finesse, but it can just get the job done. It does what its meant to do, super car level performance (arguably) at a "bargain" price. The S2000 is more like a sashimi knife, capable on its own, but if you dont know how to handle one its unforgiving and would risk severe consequences.

I've only driven a GT-R for a very short time but even in that short drive I couldn't help but notice all the whining clunking and weird noises coming out of the drivetrain. Especially doing any slow speed parking maneuvers it sounded like the car was gonna fall apart.

Surprisingly huge car though compared to the competition

Yeah I have heard the R35 debate and it is often talked about at home too as there big Skyline communities and many people go from a R32,33 or 34 GTRs to a 35 and end up back in one of the older models after a while. I would no doubt love an R35s but not 100% sure I would want to sell my 33 to get one.

@ae101: yes I have considered the American muscle as it is something very different to at home but from looking at the prices, the year and spec I would actually want is more expensive than I was expecting. Thanks Ireland is cool, we used to have an amazing JDM scene, its okay now but was alot better. The recession hit that market hard.

@Gorilla: S2000s are awesome little cars, I tried to buy one before I bought my DC5 as I have always been a honda head but I looked at all the local examples and they were in terrible condition and importing one from Japan and registering it in Ireland is very expensive so went with the more practical Integra.

So what is the car scene like here. What is the best way for someone to get involved? At home I had a group and we used to meet up at least once week for chats and shenanigans. :)

The group we had in Ireland we kept the numbers small (20 people or so) and would only be invited to join the group if you attended a couple of cars and coffee in a nice car and didn't act like an idiot. Worked quite well, were meeting for 2 years with no issues, never advertised it on forums/facebook etc just on a watts app group.

It seems to be quite strong and very enthusiastic as a whole in Vancouver. I believe you’ll find many other forums specific to your vehicle interest that is local here I Vancouver. We used to have big weekly meets but our population is quite a bit different than your much “older” society in Europe. This younger society in Canada just needs some more decades or centuries of maturity. As car meets get bigger here, so do the bad apples that help destroy the greatness and power of what a weekly meet does to our community. So for now it’s back to living this more online (it’s easy to click a button to control trolls) than in physical lots and cruises across the city. I don’t know every brand/manufacturer scene here but I’m sure in small groups they get together just as I have participated in the past. You shouldn’t have much of a problem branching out here on revscene. There are many enthusiasts of like minds here!

I miss the pre speedhump Byrne road Thursday nights (before that Subaru slammed into the curb, Mustang burnouts and other similar events)! Even in the dead of winter I remember being out there with at least 5 or 6 cars drinking Tims shooting the shit

peeled the clear dip from the hood/fenders but left the front bumper for now until my next full detail. kind of shocking how much damage was done in one season of winter driving. removed shitty yellow tint from fogs and upgraded from h8 to h11 yellow fog bulbs. installed front lip as well. still in the process of refinishing my HRE wheels, wont be done for a few weeks most likely.

LOLGot a good deal lined up on a set of ST Suspension, just got a decide on ST X (no top hat, fixed damping, adjustable height), ST XT (no top hat, adjustable damping/height, or ST XTA (integrated top hat/mount with camber settings, adjustable damping/height)

Initially I really want the Bilstein B14 PSS, has adjustable height (all I really need), fixed damping, top hat - I still want it, but no deals to be found. Just trying to decide if the integrated top hats (XTA) are worth the extra $150

If those are actual camber plates. Get them. They afford the front shock a few more inches of travel which will turn your ride quality into a fully compliant daily driver.

Edit: also get top hat reinforcement plates that go under the top hats ahead of the shocks. They are cheap insurance to top hat mushrooming.

It won't adjust height. Springs are what support the weight of the car and determine height, shocks keep your car from bouncing back and forth uncontrollably when the springs are compressing/decompressing.
As for GC, they have full bolt up coilover kits, not just conversion. I'd probably take those over any variation of the ST, but they cost a fair bit more.

Best advice I can give you though is buy it nice or buy it twice. Every car I've ever owned I've purchased at least 2 suspension setups to find what I want due to being impatient. I'll probably end up buying a third soon for the m3.

I ran Koni Yellows as part of my coilover setup for three years in Vancouver. They were perfectly fine when I sold the car three years into my ownership. Car was daily driven, for what it's worth.

Konis are the best mid range shock IMO. I prefer them to bilstein, and you aren't getting something better unless you step into thing like Ohlins, MCS, etc. (which are well beyond the budget, and need to be run as coilovers.)
Not sure what you mean about "hope its not too low" though. Your height isn't going to change if you just buy new shocks, its going to stay the same height as right now.

i would skip ohlins unless you are going for a custom setup / higher end like the TTX

entry level ohlins are very mediocre and often too soft - so you'll need to spend some money to get it valved properly

bilstein are great for street - really comfy

I would rank MCS/Penske/JRZ in top category - Ohlins will be in here too if you are not going for off the shelf setup

forgot mine in the washer and dryer stupidly gg.
than i paid out the ass for replacement display,than i kept charging it till it didn't work anymore like a piece of shit iphone 4 that doesn't want to hold power again for a replacement :okay:
it looks interesting but you know some crazy shit happens with electronic devices,even running over you're own keys sometimes...let alone carrying your house keys and that display in the same pocket..

You mean, the Miata has the same engine as my GT ;) all I wanted to do to that thing was turbo it. I remember one guy was pushing 300whp with some crud engine management. What are the miatas reaching these days?
