I just checked the standings and wow I wasn't expecting us to be right in the mix for a wildcard spot with how the season started :lol

I have paid no attention this year in all aspects and finally took a look at standings, stats etc after last night and to your point was shocked lol. Starting the season what was it like 8 games or something without a win and even after that still losing multi goal leads I thought we were bottom dwellers for sure. Didn't realize we've now won 5 of 6 or is or 6 of 7, basically 500 and Calgary and Edmonton both around our level in terms of record. Our top 6 scorers are averaging a point a game as well. Jason Robertson 2nd in the league and Dallas 1st wtf. Seattle 2nd in the Pacific what is going on lol.

Reeks of the millennial entitlement and delusion that successes are fully attributed to themselves and nobody else's support or mentorship, while challenges and shortcomings are everybody else's fault but their own.

I've managed several of these types of people over the years and they are the worst.

From article:
Doerrie says she reported to Emilie Castonguay, the assistant general manager for the team, who was hired a few months after Doerrie started.

So who hired her? Rutherford, Allvin? Damn, do your due diligence!

So this crazy ass Rachel girl is blaming her sex for her being fired and saying the Canucks are discriminatory even though she reported to a female manager?

So this crazy ass Rachel girl is blaming her sex for her being fired and saying the Canucks are discriminatory even though she reported to a female manager?

Huh?

Nope, this Rachel girl is suing the Canucks for firing her from her job because she claims that they discriminated against her on the basis of her gender and mental illness. She claims that the Canucks know about her diagnosis of PTSD during her job interview with management.

These are the key points that I read from the article in this thread:

The article was written by her friend, Patrick Johnston. Johnston had texted Doerrie statements made by Canucks head coach Bruce Boudreau, complimenting Doerrie’s abilities.

When Doerrie said this to Castonguay, the document alleges that Castonguay responded saying, “You’re not important enough to be cared about,” and “no one in the media is your friend.”

“Castonguay told Ms. Doerrie: ‘I dont know if you have what it takes to do the job, mentally,” the document added.

Doerrie claims the comment about her mental well-being was related to her long-standing diagnosis with a mental illness.

Doerrie was diagnosed with post-traumatic stress syndrome (PTSD) in 2018, with associated panic and anxiety attacks and depression. She also lives with the heart condition vasovagal syncope and a leaky heart valve.

Before being hired by the Canucks, Doerrie says she “disclosed her mental and physical disability to them in the interview process, including details of ‘triggers’ and how her illness presented themselves.”

After the conversation with Castonguay, the document says Doerrie’s conditions were triggered

In other words, this Rachel girl is claiming that Castonguay's comments about her "mental ability" to do the job triggered PTSD.

Hmm, that is a far stretch of a claim for this Rachel girl to say that Castonguay's words triggered PTSD to happen again for her IMO.

I am not a psychiatrist, a mental health medical professional. It does sound, however, like the big burden of proof is on Rachel to prove that Castonguay discriminated against her based on her "mental well being" AND that the assistant GM's comments triggered PTSD in her again.

The Canucks are arguing that this Rachel girl disclosed confidential information about her promotion to her friend in the media. She violated privacy rules.

vasovagal syncope is not really a heart condition...

This girl seems to be leaning on every possible item - depression, anxiety, PTSD, heart conditions, etc. Shit, I have depression and it is no joke, but I don't use it as a crutch and want special treatment. Who the hell discriminates for drops in blood pressure? She sounds like she needs to mature and become an adult.

Sounds like she violated the terms of her contract, was given a talking to, decided to make a stink about it, and organization decided they didn't want to deal with this shit and let her go. now she's twisting words and trying to frame things a certain way to get sympathy/support from the social justice warriors.

It was already previously rumored early in the season that she was the leak of personnel info, so this honestly doesn't look well for her. i'm sure there's way more to the story with this media friend.

The downfall of super smart people sometimes is that they think they can play everyone and win.

As a hiring manager, this will likely follow her through her post-hockey career. Yes, hockey is a male-dominated profession and I can understand why someone may have a chip on their shoulder, but there's also a shadow side to that chip. I'm sure she will find a lot of support online but in the real world, people will be hesitant to hire her unless it's a position with limited contact and/or on a short contract. She's obviously talented, but there's a point where fit > talent, particularly in a team environment.

The situation reminds me of the hot girl meme, where someone somewhere is tired of her shit.

Exactly, what makes her soo talented? Whats on her resume that makes it speak for itself? She was let go by New Jersey and look how well they r doing now(i know very unfair)

Shes really paving the way for young people, young girls to never get hired in theses types of positions in the future.

So i listened to the donnie n dhali interview and what i got out of it is, she basically has a problem with EC, she had nothing but positive things to say about everyone in management and the coaching staff aside from EC. Cause of her mental health she required some i guess "special treatment" to help her cope with it, she brought that up when she was hired that they agreed to and she was entilted to but never got. Its no secret shes an outspoken person but she was told to "stay in line" which she doesnt agree with. She wants to speak her mind, and i guess not stay in her lane. She doesnt want to be silenced, in a hockey culture where its the norm to be silent. It does make alil bit of sense unless shes telling higher level employees how do to there jobs when shes basically a low level employee, comes off as entilted

The last thing she said got me. She basically said that the work environment wasnt changing for her which is why doesnt want to go back unless it changes.

100% agree. Apparently she had a meeting about it which she also says in her interview, and that she wouldn't do thst anymore. But when they moved her to a different position, she made a complaint against EC, i guess management knew she was just gonna be a problem for years to come and fired her.

Not Martin's fault at all, but I guess with this loss, it makes it a bit easier to put Demko back in.

Martin was tracking the puck well and looked confident on those saves. Terrible defense on those goals. Even the empty netter was a terrible give away.

https://www.nhl.com/canucks/news/roberto-luongo-to-be-inducted-into-canucks-ring-of-honour/c-338233476?mibextid=Zxz2cZ

The Vancouver Canucks announced today that former Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo will be inducted into the club's Ring of Honour next season (2023.24) at a date to be announced later. The induction was unanimously voted on by a distinguished group of ex-players, broadcasters, and other members of the hockey club.

"We are proud to welcome Roberto to the prestigious list of Canucks Ring of Honour inductees," said Jim Rutherford, Vancouver Canucks President, Hockey Operations. "Roberto experienced many of his career highlights as a Vancouver Canuck and is deservingly viewed as one of the best goaltenders our game has ever seen thanks to those moments. He was a fierce competitor and a tremendous leader for this team, and we are honoured to be able to acknowledge his contributions to this organization and city."

what a joke
retire his number

has a better resume than Naslund and Bure.
Can't knock on what Naslund and Bure has done, but i think it's safe to say Luongo by the end of his tenure as a Canuck and career is a far better than both those players)

punkwax
11-30-2022, 06:02 PM
#1 is a tough number to retire simply due to it’s popularity amongst tendies. Had Lu closed the door and the Canucks did win the Cup I’m quite sure his jersey would have made it into the rafters.

If a future, tenured Canuck goalie wearing #1 does bring the Cup home, I’d wager that person will earn the honour instead.

Love Lu, but factors such as the above are in play here. Many longtime fans also argue that Captain Kirk might be the greatest #1 in franchise history. Loyalty wise anyway due to Lu’s split time in Florida which doesn’t really help his case either.. McLean is also an alumni and was on the ice with my son just a few weeks ago wearing Canucks blue.

Fans who remember ‘94 know..

Lastly, not sure I can agree about Lu being better than Bure, let alone far better. Bure was a generational talent. Lu was stellar, but not in that league.

SkinnyPupp
11-30-2022, 06:10 PM

Agreed, should have just been ring of honour... both 12 and 19 should not be retired.

Heck I'd even argue Bure should be just ring of honour not retired.

Linden and Sedins are the only 3 that should be retired.

There's no way a team with zero Stanley Cups should already have 6 jersey numbers fully retired.

https://canucksarmy.com/news/report-canucks-rejected-opportunity-reacquire-roberto-luongo-ltir-purposes-panthers-before-retired-2019

When Roberto Luongo retired as a Florida Panther in June 2019, it triggered a $3.035 million cap recapture penalty against the Vancouver Canucks for signing him to a twelve-year extension in 2009. But according to Sportsnet 650’s Satiar Shah, Luongo’s career could’ve officially finished in a very different way.

Before Luongo announced his retirement, then-Panthers GM Dale Tallon offered the Canucks the opportunity to reacquire Luongo’s contract, allowing the team to place the Hall of Fame goaltender on LTIR instead and eventually finish his career in Vancouver.
The Canucks, then run by GM Jim Benning, turned the offer down.

“They gave the Canucks a chance to trade back the contract to do some LTIR stuff or whatever, they never did,” Shah said. “Ultimately, he ends up retiring.”

Despite the extremely valuable opportunity to reacquire the best goalie in franchise history and avoid a costly recapture penalty, the Canucks felt such a move didn’t tie into their existing plan at the time. But that didn’t stop Benning from using it as a frequent excuse for his front office’s inability to improve the team.

The franchise’s use of Luongo’s cap recapture penalty as a crutch for poor decisions has led some people to point fingers at the former Canuck for retiring. But aside from the fact that the NHL made the retroactive choice to punish a team for signing a then-legal contract, Shah also mentioned that Luongo didn’t have many other options aside from retirement in Florida.

“Sure, he retired and he hit the team with a cap recapture penalty. But that was also the circumstance he found himself in. He essentially was squeezed out by Florida,” Shah said.

“[The Panthers] said ‘You’re either retiring or we’re making your life miserable’ essentially, and ‘you want to work in our front office afterwards?’ It’s kind of what you have to do.”

What the fuck?

I mean, sure, we don't know what Tallon was asking for in return... but jesus christ, it wouldn't have been a 1st round pick or prospect. likely, a low pick.

Only reason they retired Bure was probably because he got into HOF.

So we got 3 retired HOF, if you count Lu, 4.

For me anyway the team is capped out with Horvat left to resign which regardless of the pace he's had this year I was all in on either way. Miller like it or not it's done. We have many problems but D is definitely one and if there's anywhere we can spare it's at the forward position. EP40 ain't going anywhere, neither is Miller, Boeser as much as I like the guy is the expendable one that might have some worth. I would argue maybe Garland as well but hey maybe both I don't know if we can get some actual D help coming back. We might be better we might not be who knows but what I do know is we can't keep moving forward like this it's laughable how crappy we are defensively.

bobbinka
12-03-2022, 04:54 PM
I actually don't think Bo's contract is that big of a deal. The Holtby/Virtanen buyout ends and gives us 2.4mil back. Bo is 5.5mil, so that's 7.9mil without having to make space. The difference will be anywhere from 100k to 1.1mil, I'd say.

Ultimately, we would still need to clear out cap space to afford Kuzmenko. So some guys are definitely getting shipped out.

Trading Brock for Dumba, I'd really hope we get some sweeteners, because Dumba's a UFA at the end of this year. (also, the guy hasn't played a full season since 17-18)

No goal. League review in the situation room.

The net was knocked off prior to the puck going to net as per the ref’s explanation. Too much time elapsed between the net off and puck going into the net?

Gotta read the NHL rule book for this situation.

Not sure what the ruling is according to the rule book. But from my perspective, I think it's because the puck was shot (off of a rebound) after the net was already off. If the puck went in between the pipes from the initial shot while the net was knocked off, it would have counted. I don't think it's literally so much as how much time elapsed, but more of the fluidity of the play.

The defenseman fell, didn't make it apparent it was intentional to knock the net off, so that doesn't help canucks' argument.

I feel in a scenario like this though, canucks should have been awarded a penalty shot.

bobbinka
12-03-2022, 08:03 PM
What a load of shit.

If you knock your own goal off, the play doesn't get blown down until your team gets possession of the puck. This prevents teams from just pushing their net off whenever the opposing team has possession to stop play.

Boudreau apparently had no idea that it was cancer night and that it meant alot to Boeser to play to honour his father.

This Canucks team is strange, to say the least.

-hard to figure out their mental makeup.

The team at the start of the season, had leads in games, only to give up leads and lose many games. Perhaps it was partly due to a mentality of"afraid to lose?"

Then the team for the past few games, against Arizona, and Montreal, the team shows belief in themselves to be able to come back in games when the opposing team is leading. :fulloffuck:

Ya.. at first Chara said they saw it happen then shortly thereafter said they only heard about it.. I doubt it actually happened and if I’m right, whoever started the rumour should have their name on the Cup as well because apparently that (not saying that alone) helped fuel the Bruin’s fire to refuse to lose.

I also immediately thought about Recchi’s comment when he said the Canucks were the most arrogant team he had ever played against. Sure they had some elite level shit disturbers on that team and were so dominant perhaps they had a better than thou attitude, but I can’t help but feel that his comment may have also been fuelled by that rumour.

I just don’t see any NHL team practicing how they’d celebrate with an invisible trophy, anywhere, let alone in the opponent’s arena knowing rink staff are around. Seems ludicrous outside of a WWE script :lol

I’m definitely tuning in for Bieksa’s comments.. it would make for great TV if they had Chara on air to join the conversation. If I were in charge of HNIC I’d do everything in my power to make that happen.

Goosebumps, I loved hockey so much back then never missed a game and went to so many games.

After the 2012 lockout I was done, it was the final nail after the bullshit in 1994-1995 and 2004-2005. I wouldn't be exaggerating to say I've probably only watched 6 or 7 hours of NHL hockey since then, totally soured me and based on principle alone I haven't been able to support it since. I took my son to one game so he could experience and make his own mind up, he prefers the NFL much much more.

I'll still read about it and see how the Canucks are doing but I can't bring myself to watch it, I feel like if I do I'm a hypocrite for saying I won't watch anymore lol.

Bieksa ripped into Chiara’s comments during a segment of HNIC last Saturday. What Juice said about Chara’s comments make a great deal of sense.

No media reported on any “incident”. No cameras with video footage about the alleged incident.

A big insult to the team. Insult to the leadership group of the 2011 team and to three first ballot Hall of Fame players in Henrik, Daniel, and Luongo.

It is only dumb asses with no critical

From his end, this is his chance to get paid. He can command more than that based on the way he's playing. But contract year... I'm not entirely convinced he will keep this up onward.

But it's inevitable, the team sucks, and he doesn't want his career to be stuck here. Money's the only incentive for him to stick around, and 8mil isn't going to be enough.

Rutherford and Allvin had better maximize the return from a Horvat trade.

They already shit the bed with giving out big money for a defensively challenged player in Miller.

Canucks management need to get this trade done right. Young centre man, right handed defencemen, and draft picks are what this team needs in return for trading Bo.

It's time to move on. Get a proper rebuild done for this franchise.

This team is still looking from the outside at a wildcard playoff spot. The defence sucks.

Perhaps buyouts of big contracts are possible too in a rebuild?

Next 3 years are gonna suck no matter what with OEL on defense... he needs to go to Gary Roberts or something in the summer to work on his skating, he's just getting walked by multiple times a game... it's ridiculous.

He probably doesn't care enough to put in the effort to up his game anymore though, just collecting his $60M+

EvoFire
12-13-2022, 08:59 AM
I would take the Horvat thing with a grain of salt right now.

Miller supposedly turned down their best offer as well, and they got it done. It could be that they aren't on speaking terms right now, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's all smoke and mirrors and Horvat and the agent and PA are laughing in a backroom either.

I still don't understand why you wouldn't want to get rid of Miller contract this year before no trade clause kicks in next year. Even if you have to eat $1M per yr on his stupid contract, you free up to $7M per year ... do you think anyone would want Miller for 7 years @ $7M cap hit actual? What about Miller for $6.5M pa for 7 yrs? Cap space freed up depending on what or who is coming back.

Who cares about tanking.
No guarantee on Bedard, and even with Bedard, no guarantee the team becomes successful. A series of proper management moves are far more important and we've had two eras of incompetence despite having a talented core with potential and assets. I really don't see how tanking is going to help build a better team. If we even had McDavid, our defense still sucks like shit with management that don't know how to fix it.

I could hear chants of "Sell the team! Sell the team!" during the broadcast of the game last night against St. Louis.

If only there was a billionaire who loves the Canucks so much that he would buy the team from Aquilini. A new owner who hires competent management who know how to build a team the right way to become a legit Stanley Cup contender.

It's not just the players. It's management and ownership who are driving this franchise to the ground.

EvoFire

I wouldn't be surprised if Aquaman made them sign Miller vs trading.

punkwax
12-20-2022, 08:51 PM
^ I honestly doubt that, myself.. Aquaman is too easy of a scapegoat in the Miller situation IMO. Sure, blame him for plenty of other matters but perhaps not this.

I’m pretty sure I’ve said it here before but despite his offensive stats, I firmly believe that Miller’s piss poor attitude (which was on high display in the bubble when everyone could not only see him acting like a child instead of a pro, but also hear him consistently being a dick of a teammate) limited not only his trade value but also the amount of teams interested.

If he had half of Bo’s positive demeanour the Canucks probably would have been able to not only ship him out for far greater of a return than what they were offered, but he’d likely have landed a bigger contract as well. It could’ve been a win-win but Miller is seemingly his own worst enemy.

The Canucks are stuck with him for now it seems. If they can somehow move him soon and use that money to keep Bo instead, I think it’d not only help enable the team to become contenders much sooner than the path they’re currently on, but also ignite a ton of faith in the new management group amongst the fanbase.

If Bo leaves and Hughes pulls a Tkachuk to move down south after not being named as an untouchable recently, these days will seem bright compared to darker ones ahead. We’ve all seen the memes on how depressed he can look at times. But hey, resting bitch face is a thing so maybe that’s just how he looks at times. Finger crossed

If Bo leaves keep Petey at all costs. If he’ll stick around that is… fack the thought of losing such a promising young core is sickening. I could keep on going about the Linden firing, Boeser not becoming the 40-50 goal scorer he had projected to be early on, good players leaving the team due to a “cliquey” room etc. but it’s becoming too depressing to go on as I type.

If only the Canucks had won in 2011 as they should have. Then I’d like to think I wouldn’t give as much of a shit as I do now. But here we are WutFace

I've always wondered if the Canucks issues were even greater then management and ownership (of course they're a big problem as well).

What I mean is from a city standpoint, curious if this city in general just carries a terrible lack of attractiveness to players writ large?

The cost of housing, high taxes, extreme and heightened hockey media presence, shitty and reactive fans.

I wonder if all these factors deter players from wanting to play here, or when they do get here, become totally disenfranchised over time?

punkwax
12-21-2022, 10:23 AM

100% this was just miscommunication between everybody. Boudreau probably thought he gave the signal and that Delia saw/knew. Delia didn't think he got the signal and was hesitant. Miller thought Delia should've been gone already.

Boeser also uses his stick to point to the bench, but Delia doesn't see. So, if Miller didn't vocalize, Delia might still be waiting for Boudreau or until he thinks he can go?

I think that the plan/play drawn up in this instance was that the 6th man had to be on the ice as they brought the puck up (makes it easier to gain entry and/or recover the puck when there are more bodies for the other team to cover). Delia waiting/delaying meant the 5 man unit would be up the ice with the 6th man trailing if/when Delia goes to the bench, which makes entry into the offensive zone 5 on 5 with no advantage.
