He had a very treatable form of cancer, and found out about it early enough that he should have lived a very long life. But he chose to treat it by switching to a vegan diet and "naturopathic" cures. It didn't work out, and he actually was very late in removing it with surgery. The tumor grew during the 9 months he tried to get rid of it with diet. He continued to eat a horrible diet even after having a procedure which already would have leeched his body of most nutrients to begin with. Then the rest of his body started failing. He continued to listen to his quacks, and died
RIP, one of the most brilliant marketers ever, IMO, but it looks like he was just as susceptible himself to listening to sales pitches. Maybe that's why he was so good at it?
"I don't think I've ever worked so hard on something, but working on Macintosh was the neatest experience of my life. Almost everyone who worked on it will say that. None of us wanted to release it at the end. It was as though we knew that once it was out of our hands, it wouldn't be ours any more.
"When we finally presented it at the shareholders' meeting, everyone in the auditorium stood up and gave it a 5-minute ovation. What was incredible to me was that I could see the Mac team in the first few rows. It was as though none of us could believe that we'd actually finished it. Everyone started crying."

THIS is where the press fails to pick up and share in order to sell stories. And if they do pick this up, they thwart and spin this as a pitiful story
I dont know where I stand amongst the fanboys between apple, android, windows all that crap. What I can say is this
I bet you most PC fanboys WONT EVEN ADMIT the bright spots on why APPLE is innovative until today.

on the other hand Jobs probably would have agree with the decision. He said in his standford speech that death is very likely the single best invention of life, its life's change agent to clear out the old. R.I.P Jobs hopefully Cook can continue his legacy
The thing is except for Pixar Steve Jobs never invented those things. His genius was able to see the value in things and able to market them to the masses.

umm i don't think apple's contribution to desktop computers was large in any way.
but i definitely agree that apple made a huge impact in the mobile phone industry, there technology led the way a long time before any other OS
steve jobs may have been a bit harsh when it comes to business, but that's what it takes to run a successful company. when it comes to family and friends, and charity i bet he had the biggest heart
i'm not a apple fan but i am definitely a steve jobs fan
I'm always the first one on the anti-Apple bandwagon, but there are two things that I never lost sight of:
1. The iPhone is pretty nifty at times, regardless of how much it costs.
2. Steve Jobs was a brilliant marketer. He lifted Apple out of the strut they were in and made it into one of the most profitable companies in the world.
While I don't particularly like Apple products, Steve Jobs certainly seemed to have his heart in them. RIP.
Just an FYI for those people that talks about microsoft owning apple. They owned @ their prime 18.2 million shares @ todays market value which would equal:
18.2M X 378.25 = Worth about 688M. sold in 2003 I believe. don't remember.
