Started pulling the head on the prelude when lordco called us back saying that they couldnt find the headgasket in the warehouse.

She's leaking like a sivv from undernieth the intake mani. Somewhere between the head and the alternator. Any takers?

Craig: Engine swap on the preludes (87 1.8 dc) is about a 4-5hr job. Correct? (pulling the engine from one car into another for the approx time) Just the Engine/tranny; no driveshafts. I can assume its about 4-5 engine/tranny mounts, front driveaxles, few wires and a handfull of vacuum lines?

yeah it's not a hard job on those engines WHAT SO EVER... but watch out for the vaccuum lines, make sure theyre labelled VERY WELL... if they were all connected from end to end i'm sure they'd reach from here all the way the way back to motherland japan where the car was made.

yes discuss. others say leave it up on jack stands(my suspension is halfway compressed and supported mind you) the idea is to keep it off the tires. i wil also be using cardboard inserts to keep it all safe from increment weather

I was going to put mine on jacks with the tires still on. Wanted to get the strain off the tires from being in one spot. Dont they have a possibility of getting a flat spot if I leave them on the ground?

put it on some old tires you have, leaving it on stands for a long time is not good for the uni body

Have the car's lower control arms sitting on blocks that way the suspension is still compressed.

and Bingo. I believe tommy is right. If it sits on blocks on the lower control arms it will simulate sittign on tires with load on the suspension still. Without actually stressing your tires.

I was always told to leave the car on wheels, i always thought jackstands were not a good thing to do for more than a few months.

well if the jack stands are under the suspension points that the wheels mount to, and they are sturdy points that will not bend, it should be NOT much different than if the car was on wheels to start with.

Put on a dual tip muffler on the 240 today for appearance. It was one from Ractive. I knew it wouldn't sound great from the get go but it does the job. Looks a lot better than my original oem muffler, just a bit too loud for my liking.

Also installed new K&N cone filter. I miss hearing my intake over my exhaust.

Put the jack stands under the LCAs. you dont want the tires on the ground but you also dont want the suspension hanging and putting flex on your bushings.

while its jacked up there like that, take an afternoon to loosen all your UCA/LCA/trailing arm/etc bolts that have a bushing and retighten them to realign and releave the pre-load from your bushings.

The work has been alright so-far. Got the one car stripped and the engine/tranny out. I put the engine aside and started working on it. oil-pan gasket, water pump gasket, head gasket etc. I cleaned/polished each individual piston, cleaned the valves/ports etc. Went to put the headgasket on and its the wrong one!!! Now the engine in our good car wont come out. The axle nuts are stuck... Hope it'll be out and running by the morning.
