ey european, for that Wolverine picture. What white box were you using? Were you using a studio tent or made something on your own?

european 03-06-2011 03:03 PM

I made my own light box. :) It's kind of ghetto but it works pretty well.
Thanks for all the comments everyone!

604778 03-06-2011 03:03 PM

May i ask ask how you made your own :) haha

N.V.M. 03-06-2011 03:19 PM

playing around with my new Metz flash out in the back yard. not too exciting of subjects, but they were the only ones willing to play along.

Sure.

Pic #1 I don't like. What am I looking at? A large portion of the picture is wasted with that large white blob.

Pic #2 is very cool! However, the bokeh is very harsh looking. What kind of lens are you using?

Also, use image hosting site and link from there.. makes the pics better size bc RS re-sizes them.

Cheers.

Sure...

Get a box (free behind any warehouse or mall or something)
Cut squares all around the box except the bottom. The top you can chop right off.
Line the inside of the box with white bristol board (a couple dollars at a dollar store for a few sheets)
Put a sheet of white nylon, fleece or muslin fabric on the top of the box. I used white nylon.
Now just shine the light through the top and snap some photos!

Make sure you turn off all the lights in your room. Just the one light thats above the light box. You may need to change your white balance. I usually put mine to fluorescent. Some people use incandescent.
I don't know why but fluorescent seems to work for me. Perhaps its the fact my room has orange walls or maybe its my crappy IKEA lamp? Who knows, just play with your settings until you get the results you want/like.
I've been told to use "daylight" bulbs. N:vision 90 watt compact fluorescent bulbs will do. Any full spectrum bulbs will do. I just use my little IKEA lamp and it seems to do the job.

I'm working on a detailed "DIY/HOW TO:" with tons of photos. So I'll post it up once I'm finished and you'll see what I mean. Is that alright?

EDIT:

That video is funny. I can't believe they actually set it up in front of the computer. Smart.......

I think that might be Hastings Bowl beside the PNE/Pacific Coliseum. That's the only park I remember that never gets cleaned up from graffiti. I could be wrong though. If its not Hastings Bowl looks very similar. That's where I learned how to drop in when I was like 12 haha! Aah the memories...
