List of DS WiFi Games

Guide to Converting Movies for View on MoonShell with BatchDPG

Must Have Nintendo DS Games

Q&A

Q: Do Japanese games work on North American DS'?
A: Yes, they are region-free, however, if you choose to play multiplayer, they must be the same language.

Q: What is a flash / devkit
A: It's basically a copy of the DS and GBA cartridges and you can copy downloaded games onto them. Most of the GBA ones are just cartridges, while the DS devkits usually have expanded memory.

Q: I read that I also need a NoPass device with my flash kit, what do they do?
A: They basically trick the DS to load unsigned code from the GBA slot.

Q: I also heard that I could flash my DS? That would allow me to not need a NoPass device and save battery life.
A: Yes, it is called FlashMe, it's a firmware replacement that automatically boots up the flash kit. However, you need a NoPass device in order to flash it.

Q: How do I play on Nintendo WiFi?
A: You need to either have a wireless router or the Nintendo USB WiFi Adapter for the DS to connect to.

Q: Does WiFi work if I decide to buy a flash / devkit?
A: Yes, totally! However, some people have stated that you cannot host, but join.

Q: How can I watch movies?
A: You need a dev / flash kit in order to watch movies. Then you use a freeware program called Meteos to convert them. Alternatively, you can use MoonShell, in that case, you would have to convert your videos to DPG format. ( The only video format MoonShell can recognize.

Q: What is MoonShell?
A: It is like PogoShell for the GBA, a sort of operating system that allows you to listen to music, read text files, look at pictures, watch videos, etc.

Q: How can I watch movies? ( ALT )
A: You can buy an accessory called the GBA Movie Player and just stick in a memory card with the movie and watch them that way.

Q: Is there a brightness switch on the DS like the GBASP?
A: Sort of, but you have to access it from the main menu. The DS only has the option of on / off, while the DSL has 4 kinds of brightness.

Q: How backward compatible is the DS?
A: The DS can only run DS and Gameboy Advance games.

Q: What exactly is Pictochat?
A: It is an IM program built by Nintendo that lets you chat with other people within 100 feet of you.

Q: How many modes of multiplayer are there?
A: There are lots of multiplayer modes from being able to play with people right next to you to sharing one game between two people on two different DS'.

Q: What are the difference between back and frontlit screens?
A: Frontlit screens have the light in front of the screen, and vice versa. On frontlit screens, you can see the light if you hold it at a certain angle, however on the backlit ones, lighting is much more even and results in sharper graphics. The DS and 2nd Gen GBA / GBA:M have backlit screens, while the 1st Gen GBA:SP has a frontlit screen.

Q: Can I play older Gameboy games in multiplayer mode?
A: Nope

Q: Are some older GBA accessories compatible with the DS?
A: Sure, a car charger is one of them, but only for the older gen of the DS.

Damn, Mario Kart online is so killer!

Gotta find my code though, I'm gonna add you guys.

Fox, how'd ya find the code for Tetris DS?

EDIT: Added you guys and added my code.
Anyone know what the lock in friends roster mean?

Sp3cial_K 07-31-2006 03:53 PM

Im gonna get a DS lite soon, which place has the best deal on right now?

Rhetorical 07-31-2006 04:19 PM

some of your post is inaccurate:

Q: Is there a brightness switch on the DS like the GBASP?
A: Sort of, but you have to access it from the main menu, but for the DS Lite, I believe that there is a switch like the GBASP.
The DS Lite does not have a backlight "switch". There's a small "sun" logo on the bottom left hand side of the touchscreen at the main boot menu (the one where you choose DS mode, pictochat, download play, or GBA mode). Each click bumps you to one of 4 brightness settings.

There were two versions of the GBASP. The first version was front-lit, and the second version (which came out around the same time as the GB Micro) was backlit.

The charger for the GBASP and the NDSL are different. not sure about the DS phat, though.

Razor Ramon HG 07-31-2006 04:48 PM

Thanks! Updated! And car charger works on old DS :P

So yeah, I tried out New Super Mario Bros and Trauma Center, both are AMAZINGGGG!

sputskee 07-31-2006 06:31 PM

What's with the fad of DS Lite?

Razor Ramon HG 07-31-2006 06:43 PM

They're cooler and smaller I guess.

I think the old DS is more solid though and I bet it is.

best place Ive seen is walmart 147.99. But most places are sold out everywhere. Ive checked the vancouver/richmond FS stores, all sold out. Also checked some of the superstores and sold out as well.

Rhetorical 08-01-2006 11:20 AM

the ds phat is on sale at future shop for 140 with free brain age i think. i guess they really need to clear those out.

Razor Ramon HG 08-01-2006 11:44 AM

How long does it usually take you guys to find people in Mario Kart? It takes 2 minutes just to find 3 lousy people.

Rhetorical 08-01-2006 03:41 PM

^yeah, it can take a while sometimes

vancouveray 08-01-2006 03:46 PM

does anyone know where to buy them locally?
I checked Metrotown's Future Shop, Superstore, Electronic Boutique, and Toys R Us and there are all sold out.

I pre-ordered one at Brentwood's Electronic Boutique but I won't be getting it until the 2nd shipment arrives; the 1st shipment are already reserved for the people who pre-ordered them before me.

Some Zeller's also carry the NDS lite. I got mine there 3-4 weeks ago when everywhere else (FS, BB) was sold out

The cheapest place that has them for sale is Superstore. For some reason it's 139.99

Narayan 08-01-2006 10:08 PM
