Yes it would, provided someone is in the plane pulling the yoke back to create the angle of attack needed for take off at that speed. I'm guessing the moment it's wheels left the ground, it would fall right back down as the wind would force the plane backwards (reducing the airflow over the wing).

Now if you were to start the engine, and have enough control to keep it from moving forward or backwards with the wind pushing you. You could hover as long as you wanted to.

I say it will hover because the air is moving with the car, therefore the bird is moving with the car. No one believes me. Of course the obvious course of action would be to test the theory, but have you ever tried to catch a hummingbird? Seriously..
When you throw a ball straight up in a car does it hit the back window? Well a hummingbird will do the same thing

ness_71 09-09-2006 01:04 PM

I dunno? Does it? A ball is being thrown in the direction you're moving though since you're the one throwing it. Plus it doesn't stay in the air long enough to really be a good enough comparison.

hud 91gt 09-09-2006 01:37 PM

If your in a car and you throw a ball, it goes up and then down. Just as if you were standing still.

If you try this in a boat with little to no windshield you will figure it out really quick.

Its just like lifting your hand in your car. you put your hand in the air, it's not suddenly going to smoke the back window. If you stick it outside, it gets forced back. It's just all about the airflow.
