yup, ppl have been doing it in different forms for years...but it was the first time I've had a ride in one :)

also, there's a bit of a difference between what they did years ago and what this guy did....since KFC switched to trans fat-free oil, it's super easy...change the seals in the fuel pump and that's IT...whereas the old trans fat-rich oil had to be pre-heated, etc...usually worked best with a dual-tank setup (diesel for startup/shutdown, heated veggie shortening for in between)...expensive and elaborate...with this one...it's simply toss it into the tank and away you go.

Also, this is very much a novelty in the North...sadly :(

There's a guy in town here who built a Diesel Cabrio rabbit that ran on deep-fryer oil from local restaurants. He also had an old Merc that ran on it too.

I was thinking about making my own bio-diesel this winter for the beater, since I don't think anywhere in Victoria sells it yet. Plus I can get the methanol you need for blending it from work. :)

And Adam, once I figure out this whole bio-diesel thing, I might let you know on that. I was thinking about doing the 2-tank system so I could use fryer oil since I can get my hands on another tank for super cheap, but if I can make bio-diesel I might do that instead. And even if the beater doesn't make it more than a winter, it'll still be another $500 well spent in the name of science!
