I have nothing against watches with ETA movements, I own a couple myself. What I don't like is when certain companies stick a stock ETA movement or slightly modified ETA movement and try to pass it off as an in-house movement and charge in-house prices for it. I am aware that there are some companies that do extensive modifications to the ETA movements.

lol what might be the worst though, would be these smaller boutique branded watches that use the base ETA movements and then all of a sudden they claim the watch to be SWISS MADE or SWISS movement, but the rest of the parts are just the generic catalogue type.

there are those that you do pay a hefty amount for the design though. i just wish that the newer watch brands all have some form of certificate they give you when you buy one of their watches that claim 1000M or 2000M WR. I've read a watch brand before (forgot what it was) claiming to have 1000M WR then water got into the case at around 20 or 30m only.

@joquio, just wait till you see some of the mods they've done on black and orange monsters:D that, and more mods on the skx007 lol

most recent one I've read was helson's shark diver. Failed some guy 2-3 times, but each time he got a new watch...qc issues I guess, and kudos to helson for replacing.

*thumbs up* It's about variety. Keep what you got and add the 007 later!

You just HAD to show me such a nice picture of your Black Monster.
First I was pretty set on the Black Monster but since I'm getting the Blackout Citizen I thought why not get the Orange Monster instead. It took me soooooooooooo long to finally decide on the Orange Monster.
No I have second thoughts about it.......DAMN YOU!!!!

Maybe I'll get the skx007 in the future to make up for the Black Monster haha

for those of you guys who have seikos and citizen automatics, where do you guys bring your watches to get it regulated?

sas 11-20-2011 07:38 PM

I'm not a big fan of jewellery (and no watch expert) but am loving my seiko military. My pops is a big Seiko fan and recommended I look at a few. Snapped a quick pic after a good training session.
Doesn't keep super accurate time but for under $100 I'm not complaining. Needs a few knicks and scratches. Highly recommend for the average joe looking for a relliable day to day watch.

i reiterate, you cannot get a better watch for ~200 than orient

Anyone else have an Orient beside Sid Vicious?
Would love to know about your experience with Orient watches.

I received my stealth Citizen and Orange Monster over the weekend and I'm already eyeing for another watch :failed:

I am having a hard time choosing between the Seiko Skx007 and the Orient Black Mako. I think I will go for the Black Mako because it's a bit more dressy compared to 007 and more versatile.

Got a small discount, and it's an N series. Yes, had to donate lots of blood for this... and trade my PAM104 for it. Boy was it worth it. This 1950s case is quite nice.

notjustforshow 11-23-2011 09:57 AM

L and M are trading @ 2nd hand market for as low as $6000.

There are reasons not to buy it 2nd hand though, so congrats on the N!

^^^ vintage swiss ammo strap?
honestly...i don't get all the rage with vintage swiss ammo straps

notjustforshow 11-23-2011 01:08 PM

I like vintage ammo straps, but I dislike the pricing. Also, there is really no way to tell where that leather came from imo.

Also, can't really wear them with suits...come to think of it I haven't worn an ammo in a few months lol.

moky 11-23-2011 02:02 PM

yeah for the pricing of some of these vintage swiss ammo, they're already up with custom croc/gator straps.

i'd rather get a horween shell cordovan than ammo. or, anonimo kodiaks :d

No, just a simple Gunny strap, caitlyn 4. Just really thick and distressed. Ordered up an oem deployant and honey croc and 2 others.. dang, this is a sickness.

I don't get the pricing as well as they can easily reach $350. I don't get the oem straps which are around $600.... with buckle. And I think its quite tough wearing these with dress shirts..

Yes, tempted as I've seen them for $5800 used, but for a little more, I chose with brand new.

notjustforshow 11-23-2011 11:26 PM

Though this isn't one of the watch forums I frequent, I find myself here a lot lol.

What do you guys think? I just picked this up, and now thinking of flipping it since I have too many watches in rotation.

Final Fantasy Seiko, JDM version (1000 made).

I actually get way more questions about it than my other watches....fail...........lol

Energy 11-23-2011 11:29 PM

What makes it a final fantasy watch?

Remember that semi-crappy final fantasy CGI movie (spirits within i think)?

Well Seiko did a tie-in limited run of watches, which was one of the first watches to use that negative LCD. The watch is "in the movie" as its what the soldiers wore lol.

The watch itself doesn't have any final fantasy branding.

They produced around 1000 jdm version first run, and an additional unknown amount of china-made ones as demand increased.

I saw this watch back in 2001 and thought I must have one! Only able to get one today, but at least its the JDM one.

StylinRed 11-24-2011 03:36 AM

thinking about getting one like this REVIEW: The CX Swiss Military HURRICANE>>>>>>>> saw the review today and pretty much went :fullofwin: what do u guys think

PJ 11-24-2011 06:16 AM

A little too toy-looking for my personal taste..
Looks nice and sporty though.

StylinRed 11-24-2011 07:48 AM

well i was thinking more of the black one but im not planning on this being a special occasion watch either

but the review one had better pictures :)

it uses a valjoux 77 movement 200m resistance /shrug

I wouldnt mind their divers watch either with 20,000ft resistant :D (they should make one that does 20,000 leagues ;))

think this'll be my xmas gift to myself

Just curious, how much did the watch cost you? I did a quick ebay search and they're around 500-1000.

I want one too! :D

Just wondering, why shouldn't you buy it 2nd hand? I'd love to own a Panerai but I dont think I'll be able to buy brand new.

For the newer in house movement model I was looking at, approximately 15% more, I just chose to get new. Of course if the 2nd hand was a huge difference.. then that's a different story. =)
