I just realized, with the new Canon, I now own the fastest lens that Leica, Nikon and Canon have ever mass-produced.

Anyone have any hands-on experience with the YongNuo YN-568EX II speedlight? I'm looking for it to pair with my existing 580EXII for some off-camera flash fun.
For the price it's a no-brainer- but I haven't seen anything regarding bad reliability/craftsmanship. Anyone can locally vouch for them?
Btw I'm lookign at that one because it's the same price as their other TTL flashes except OEM. At this point I'm looking for a TTL flash, hence that specific model.
edit:
I just read that the only difference between the 565 and 568 is the latter having HSS and the prior having an external power port. I'm not sure if HSS is that important as I can always plop on a 3 stop ND filter to reduce light enough to avoid HSS. So in reality I'm looking for people with experience with either flash :P
Oh and I'm paring everything with YN-622Cs.

but my cousin is in love with his canon elph 330HS and i've got to say after looking at his holiday photos im impressed too
and the 340HS was just released which replaces the 330
Currently 169$ at FS Canon PowerShot 16.0MP 12X Optical Zoom Digital Camera (ELPH 340 HS) - Black : Point & Shoot Cameras - Future Shop
Reviewers say the 330HS is better though at least in low light but they're sold out in a lot of places

I noticed that in Windows, the thumbnails for my RAWs are different than when they're opened up fully in Windows Photo Viewer or Photoshop. This is because the thumbnails are from the JPGs right? (I shoot only RAW, no JPGs, so can't compare)

Does anyone have a colour calibration tool I could borrow? Like a Datacolour Spyder?

Anyone know what's the tax rate for camera lenses back into Canada?
According to a few 'calculator's', it should be taxed at the 12%
But if using B&H / Adorama / etc retailers and having them ship straight to Canada. Looking at the breakdown of the shipping .... the duties... the tax... its 5%.
Anyone have any experience?

Photoprice.ca will show it's only 5% tax. But other sources say lens is gst+pst at 12%....
Here's an example: http://www.photoprice.ca/product/029...-II-price.html
B&H Quote:
$2396.95 USD
+$24.00 S&H
+$0.00 Duty
+$12.56 Brokerage Fee +$119.85 Tax (5%)
$2553.35 USD
x 1.1105 exchange rate

If BH is quoting you at 5%, then that's what you'll pay. You won't be paying anything extra when you receive the package. BH pricing is all in (as in, they'll calculate brokerage on your behalf) if you choose Purolator to ship to Canada, which also sets the price you'll pay.
If you ship to Blaine and bring it back yourself, CBSA will charge you 12% if you get sent inside to pay taxes.
There are no duties for camera lenses and bodies imported into Canada.
Photoprice has to cater to all Canadians, all paying different tax rates. GST is 5%, so they use that value. All of their prices are estimates- they aren't always the same as the checkout prices that you end up paying.

^ yup, thanks. I know there's no duties for camera + lenses.
Was just curious why there's a difference of 5% and 12% between bringing it back myself (from Blaine/PB) vs. shipping straight to door (via UPS/Purolator etc).
Yes - it's the same 5% on both photoprice.ca and B&H/Adorama's shopping cart checkout, with my BC address / postal code.

So my quest of collecting exotic lenses continues.
When Zeiss introduced the 55mm F1.4 Otus, I almost had the impulse to get one sight unseen. Opportunities to purchase came and gone and I never really had the chance to pull the trigger.
Then I had the opportunity to try it out on several occasions, but I always thought something was lacking... some"thing" about Zeiss just isn't there.
After browsing through tons of pics from Zeiss, I noticed that small "thing" I was looking, which led to the new toy today.
The 55mm F1.2 100 Jahre for Contax/Yashica.
The thing I found lacking was that German character from all German-made Zeiss lenses (either East or West). So I decided to bypass the Japanese Otus and go to the root.

Anyone have a Fuji X-mount system?
I'm excited to go from my D7000 to the X-E1 + 18-55mm (which I heard is an absolutely amazing lens).

For people who stick with RAW and do all sort of PP themselves, it's not a huge difference coming from Nikon Pro-mateur DSLR (except the weight).
But the Fuji color processing is to die for if you do little to none PP. I am perfectly comfortable using straight JPG out of an X-system with 0 doubt.

dat 18-55 gets rave reviews for a kit lens
i was suggesting the x-e1 deal to my friend but being a newbie he ended up going for nex-6 $100 cheaper which is probably an easier learning curve.

fyi, for D600 owners, I had my body serviced December last year for oil spots. they did a sensor clean, firmware grade etc, but did not replace the shutter.
By June of this year, the spots have returned. I brought it back and Nikon has replaced the shutter. Here is the invoice. This visit was also covered under warranty.
I asked the guy at the front counter and he said they were not replacing D600's with D610's. Only in extreme cases if a D600 has been returned numerous times they have done that.
I'll be shooting for the rest of the summer, lets see if those darn spots return..

Sony made some lenses instead of pumping out body after body...this might make the A7 and its successors more viable
anyone wanna guess the weight and price of these glasses? With a form factor already that large I'm surprised they didn't throw in stabilization for the 35/1.4 |

Best place for a custom enlargement?
I need something 40 x 30cm (15 3/4" x 11 4/5") since Ikea uses some whacked out dimensions for their frames.
