holy F this movie was long; solid 3 hrs with a slow start, middle and finish

Yes Martin Scorsese is blah blah blah but the story just doesn't justify it. 137 Million investment with only 8 million in revenue. I have to say the makeup was good but that was the only thing good about this movie.

oh, if you don't know J hoffa is, don't even bother watching this movie cause it wouldn't be worth it.
5/10

Zombieland 2: Double Tap

5/10

The first movie was excellent. This 2nd one.... no good

The only part I liked was with the clones.

err...If you don't know who J Hoffa is, why don't you look it up afterwards on this amazing thing we have called the internet? I love movies about historical dramas which give me the impetus to go down the Wikipedia rabbit hole for a few hours in the middle of the night. I knew who Jimmy Hoffa was, but had no idea Robert de Niro's character was real as well.

Anyways I thought the movie was about an hour too long as well and the makeup/digital effects weren't as great as people are saying. I mean ffs, Bobby D's character is supposed to be in his mid-20s/early 30s during his first scenes with Joe Pesci....no fucking way :lol

It's for those who don't know who he is, won't find the connection, mystery, and the surrounding circles. No different than watching Ford v Ferrari. Some of my friends have no idea the tiny details put into that movies and thought it would be a racing movie all together.

I told the girls to skip the movie all together and don't bother coming watchign it with the boys.

BTW:Joe Pesci was really refreshing seeing him on the big screen again.

Had a great time watching this. It's SLOW yet meaningful. If you don't know who Mr Rogers is, you MIGHT not like it. Which is ok. It's NOT about the life of Mr. Rogers. It's about the reporter who is going thru some personal shit meeting Mr. Rogers doing a story about him.

There is one particular scene which is exceptional powerful when the two are sitting the coffee shop. You can hear a pin drop in the theatre.

I loved the movie, well paced and it's great to see new faces. I thought Tom did an amazing job with some of the camera angles and his eyes were fabulous.
Script is as good as it gets on a stereotypical hollywood movie like this.

I thought the transition journey of the main character was a bit too fast, nonetheless, a decent film over Xmas.

8/10

With you 100%. I liked the historical aspect of it, but it did NOT need to be as long as it was. Goodfellas and Casino were just as long (IIRC) but were better paced than this.

The CG masks were distracting at times, especially during more physical scenes, where you have a guy moving like a senior citizen but with the face of a man in his 30's LUL

The Lighthouse 10/10

Director really captured what he was going for. Despite being a monochrome movie about 2 guys stuck on an island, I was never once bored. Powerful performances, and craaaazy shit goes down later on in the film.

roastpuff 12-26-2019 11:42 AM

6 Underground. I shut off my brain and watched it for explosions and Bayhem only.

6/10.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

8/10

JJ Abrams makes this movie better than the Last Jedi.

SkinnyPupp 12-27-2019 04:22 AM

Star Wars was a solid 8 for me as well. Nice way to end the second trilogy. "Turn off your brain" movies don't have to literally make you feel stupid, and this is one of the good ones where you can just sit and enjoy the action, cool scenery, and fun characters. Were there some eye-rolling moments, yes, but overall I thought it was fun and enjoyable.

I've seen people complaining about this one, but I don't even know what these people would even want from a Star Wars movie. Maybe they just don't like Star Wars?

68style 12-27-2019 09:18 AM

Trying not to create any spoilers here, so I’m being very vague, but I can only complain about too many cameo moments and I think the eye rolling you’re referring to is the lame jokes they go for and, for me, they went to over the top on some scenes showing many ships.

I also got tired watching it, just being rushed from one place to another at a a hectic pace with zero character development and not much explanation of certain important things that happened, just you’re supposed to sit there and say “Okay well... I guess so” and move on to the next moment.

That said, the previous movies had forced them down a rabbit hole they couldn’t turn around in or back out of, so I think they did what they could.

SkinnyPupp 12-27-2019 03:15 PM

Yeah this was more about wrapping everything up over everything. What little character development there was - like with Poe Dameron - seems like.. why bother? It's the last movie! We know more about Poe now but so what?

And yeah that ship scene...
Spoiler!

I appreciate these films as they are not for the typical movie goers. Director did a great job, however,I didn't think it was crazy enough for me :( ...

Guess I expected too much after reading your review. I thought it would be like Parasite bat shit crazy, or even Hereditary / Midsommar (Ari Aster director) crazy....

hi-revs 12-27-2019 04:37 PM

Anyone see Ip Man 4 yet?

agree,i thought the same thing with "Hereditary" or "the house that jack build"...film kinda fucked me up watching it at 3 am...Such a weak effect watching horrors in the morning, the feeling is missing and i swear people say its not scary when they do that :rukidding:

The Lighthouse never really got into you're head,it did keep me guessing what was happening,I thought we were gonna see some "The island" and find out their in a crazy ward imaging this shit in a cell...

i give it a 6/10

did it kind of feel rushed to you guys?....i barely understood where the fuck Rylo ren was fighting one scene,i had to watch youtube "Easter Eggs you May have missed" for this film to have better understanding since it was jumping scene to scene.

i started having "Avenger" vibes soon as the space battles happened too,it just played out perfect with the untouchable hero's

i also Notice the Asian girl barely had any screen time,it was like she was non-existent in any part of the story action....Facial expressions...Done,did the movie director listen to the fans from the last film? :troll:

watched it in hK as there is nothign realy much to watch. They did try hard to dig shit up to film, from Bruce Lee plus a dash of "history" in the story line. They didn't try to make this a young Ip Man fighting 10 people anymore, cause come on... the 1st one was 10 yrs ago. Even when Donnie is full of botox, he is getting old.

Now with the bad.

-they really should have stopped at 3rd one.
-there are no tension / story with Ip Man, it's more like social injustice and side stories which didn't really need.
-the supporting cast wasn't as good. Last one with Tyson and the rest of the gang still had 'something' to lose.
-a few loop holes on, how one is able to just bring people within an army camp and fight whoever captain they feel like.
-bit of good and bad; they are using the same setup / backstage in all movies for olden days china & San Fran Chinatown (from previous Ip Man with Anthony Wong / Andy Lau movies on Chasing the Dragon etc)... good on them on efforts, but it gets old with the same back drop.

Thank you Donnie for giving us the ten yrs, but glad its done.

Guess I over-hyped it for you. Still a disturbing movie with some of the most powerful acting I've ever seen, though. This director directed The Witch which was more of a slooooow burn into madness.

We've been spoiled by Ari Aster. Nobody even compares.

6793026 12-30-2019 12:52 AM

^ The Grudge / The Ring and tons of those japanese horror film still out blows ari aster.

If we're talking about pure horror and scare factor, I'd agree with you.

But, I find it hard to compare Hereditary/Midsommar to mainstream horror. Ari Aster's directing is pretty damn masterful; makes me feel like I'm watching works of art. His movies are tragic dramas. Reels you in emotionally then crushes you, with wild shit unfolding during the climax.

The Grudge/Ring are kinda just like "Here's some creepy shit; get scared bitch"

6793026 12-30-2019 10:22 PM

I just watched Midsommar, and you're right, this artsy fartsy style is a tad different. You have to pay attention to Ari's style, story and esp the cult-ish backround. I have yet watch his previous movies.
Have to wait and see if he breaks thru this genre.

I like Midsommar's visual effects (when they were sitting at the dining table, you can subtly see the flowers changing and growing and just ..man i wish i was on acid ahahahahha), but the Hereditary wtf moment (one and only scene) still trumps all hands down for me.

Vansterdam 12-31-2019 05:42 AM

I saw Midsommar on the weekend and it was fucked lol

white rocket 01-01-2020 09:54 PM

Saw Midsommar last night. Was somewhat hyped for it. Definitely not a horror film, more of a dive into grief and suffering. Beautiful scenery, sets, costumes, cinematography, lighting, score, etc, which I'd expect from Ari Aster. Long panning shots, interesting focal points; all great quality.

Strong opening sequence but the cult stuff was just kinda meh, predictable even. Clues that didn't seem to go anywhere and then the movie just played out. Not enough shock for me I guess. Florence Pugh was excellent though and really carried the dread-soaked feeling through the film.

maybe they could keep the force a little mysterious?
at the rate things are going its like dragon ball, soon they're gonna be flying and shooting planet busting fireballs.

whatsup with the ADHD, introducing big new ideas and epic scenes just for the sake of... the scene... which quickly switches to something else...

the whole new trilogy seems so incoherent...

Spoiler!

cuz now they can have a spin off with poe...

poe and his golden female boba fett wannabe... and their history of running drugs together. hes basically the new han solo.

or not, they'll probably just throw that idea away, just like every other epic idea they introduced and threw away after 20 seconds of on screen display.

they need to reduce the family oriented "feeling". tone down the ADHD scene switching and idea introducing bogus shit...

maybe make it a little slightly more believable...
Spoiler!

need more rogue one, more solo, more mandalorian.

the problem is... like u sorta said... star wars shouldnt be a movie i go in to turn off my brain and watch space shit blow up. if i wanna turn my brain off i'd go watch rambo again.

Spoiler!
