Wish that wasn't all the way in Richmond. That sounds like something I want badly.

dapperfied 02-19-2017 09:31 PM

Being in Richmond, the most important question is.. do they take plastic?

My most important question when it comes to Richmond ... how's the driving into that mall and the parking?

You answered your own question.

sonick 02-20-2017 06:08 AM

They take plastic, and the mall's developer was probably not Chinese because the parking lot is very well designed and thought out with many entry/exit points.

Armind 02-20-2017 08:42 AM

I will give this place a try as a vietnamese that ran a pho restaurant. :accepted:

New modern Vietnamese place at the new Garden City mall in Richmond.

Beef Pho was fantastic, amazing broth and high quality ingredients. A nice chunk of bone filled with delicious marrow per bowl is a nice and unique touch. One of the best I've had.

Bahn Mi trio sampler was neat, although the filling to bread ratio was off due to the size of each sandwich, pretty much you taste all bread and barely any filling.

The proportions were much better for the full size grilled pork, however unlike the Pho, it wasn't as impressive. There was clearly some effort and thought in sourcing the baguette, as it is a step above the standard; good balance of a crisp crust and soft inner. However, their bread lacked that real chewiness from gluten that a great baguette has.

That said, the prices are definitely above your standard pho joint. Made even more obvious with Thai Son just across the street. A relatively small bowl of pho, albeit fantastic, was $11. Bahn Mi Trio sampler $10, grilled pork bahn mi $8.

You don't know shit about pho and it sucks, and you didn't run it, your parents did, so STFU Armind.

Armind 02-20-2017 09:43 AM

Look at this fuck face, you don't know shit. I bet my piss would taste better than your hipster cup of coffee.

Stop acting like you know everything about me, bcrdukes.

Developer is SmartCentres/SmartREIT, who does most of the Wal-Mart developments across Canada.

Happy Cafe, kingsway and joyce. 2/10.

Are they Viet owned and operated?

Never liked Wendy's but got late night cravings last night and saw they had $3 Spicy Chicken burger promo. It was surprisingly spicy and crunchy, I had it many years ago and it wasn't good.

Better hurry if you want to get in on this, promo ends tomorrow, Feb 26th. I've been feasting on this every other day! Nice and spicy.

Nomad: it wasn't bad. It's a small nice place with very high ceiling so it wasn't loud.

Food was good in value maybe cause it wasn't downtown?

Would go back again. 8/10

Hondaracer 02-27-2017 10:00 AM

the "hot wings" at Nomad are pretty killer, just cauliflower or whatever it is lol

Liquid_o2 02-27-2017 11:06 AM

Nomad has the best fries in the city hands down.

Went to Tableu last night for dinner with the gf and her family. We both shared the Steak Tartare and Fish Cakes for appys. Both was ok. I thought the Tartare was missing something to enhance the flavor. 6.5/10 Fish cakes was good but also felt it was lacking something too. 6.5/10 Shared the Wild Boar and Elk Ragout and burger and frites. Ragout was quite good. I didn't feel it tasted gamy much. Good pasta meat and sauce portion. 8/10. The burger was OMG. Fries was good but I felt it could've been a tad more crispy 9/10 Fresh ground meat, patty was cooked to medium rare. It was a messy burger but yet not really messy at all. Perfect proportion of bun and patty. One of the best burgers I've had which I feel should be added to westophers list. Whether he thinks the same though, lol.
Great ambience and service. Food came out timely. 4 of us 4 appys, 4 entrees and a bottle of sparkling wine came out to $237 tax in. I felt it was good pricing overall. 8/10 would definitely go back again.

Nice, that's great to hear you had a good time there.
Tableau is actually our sister restaurant. I'll let the chef know you loved the burger, and let him know the venison tartare we ran as a feature this weekend is way better than his haha.

Hondaracer 02-27-2017 02:18 PM

Best Tarare's ive had locally still from Croc and Hy's

so many places make it and just fall way short

Yeah, last nights was missing something. It was a bit on the bland side. So either the accompanying pomme gauffrete should be lightly salted or the tartare should've been seasoned better.

westopher 02-27-2017 03:23 PM

Tartare is all about balance. It being so hard to hide imperfections in technique being devoid of sauces and other "dish savers."

Young cooks are afraid of being heavy handed with seasoning. You need a perfect balance of cut size, acidity, and seasoning. To take it a step further balancing the perfect amount of crostini/chip to tartare. It seems simple, but the differences between a decent tartare and an incredible tartare are so massive in terms of flavour, and so minor in margins of error.

As far as the gaufrite being seasoned more or the tartare, it should have been both. One element should never be over/underseasoned to offset another. Like I said, probably a young guy afraid of being heavy handed.

Taste of Punjab

Meat Dinner Thali
Good selection of dishes, butter chicken sauce was good.. not too sweet. Wish there was more chicken and lamb for the lamb curry dish. For the value, I find it pretty decent since tandoori chicken is also included.

7/10

Karahi Paneer
Tastes pretty good, enjoyed it with garlic naan on the side.

8/10

Service was okay, server forgot about our Paneer dish. There was a party in the private room with music being blasted and kids running around..
Very dim setting also.
Overall: 7/10

mr_chin 02-27-2017 08:56 PM

Anyone else likes Hanju at Crystal Mall? Did they change chef? Not as good as before, but their kimchi pork rice is still good for the price.
