ive avoided DOV in the past, however, last year i got dragged out to one which i was unaware i was going to at Bishops on 4th

turned out to be a great dinner and probably the best lamb dish i've ever had. I wouldnt hold my breathe over having a similar experience elsewhere though

westopher 01-12-2018 02:34 PM

I’ll cordially invite you in hondaracer. I can’t guarentee anything in this world, but I think you will enjoy yourself. As long as you aren’t a super picky eater that only wants burgers and shit. That said, I’d say come in outside of dineout to be surrounded by a better crowd if you want a more relaxed atmosphere.

Hondaracer 01-12-2018 03:21 PM

I’m down 100% but yea would like to check it out outside of dine out as well..working this weekend then I have weekends off again so I’ll see what my schedule looks like

I’m pretty sure I remember where you work but maybe PM me the info. And picky eaters are a huge pet peave of mine so no worries there lol

CivicBlues 01-12-2018 03:34 PM

What is Westopher's restaurant?

More importantly...RS discount? :troll:

westopher 01-12-2018 03:52 PM

Lol. It’s not my restaurant, I just am the chef, but I’ll shoot you a pm. Enough people hate me on here due to my socialist ideologies that I don’t make it common knowledge, but I love having RS’ guests to cook for.

Liquid_o2 01-12-2018 06:15 PM

Would like a PM as well of the restaurant name....

Obsideon 01-12-2018 07:58 PM

I enjoyed my last visit to Westophers place for sure it's too bad we tend to have the same days off lol. Come visit when you have time, as usual, RS hookups ;)

Usually I'm pretty unbiased. A long long time ago I used to be on the same boat as the "OMG let's book all the fancy popular restaurants ASAP" and have been mostly disappointed. Most of these places basically slash the portion sizes of their a la carte dishes giving you the impression it's cheaper. Also they are serving the same item enmass so it's not the freshest meal.
However there are some hidden gems to be had, some places that are looking to showcase the chefs creativity and/or really are good deals.

Personally I have been disappointed by the entire Glowbal chain. Over the years I've unfortunately been to all of them. Coast was the worst.

Off the top of my head:
Hawksworth was very good.
Joe Fortes was worth it.
AnnaLena was not worth it IMO portions were rabbit portions.
La Terreza was so-so

The last few years Ebisu Robson has really stepped it up with some brand new dishes for Dine-Out. It's a chance for the chefs to be creative with a 3-course meal that we normally don't offer the rest of the year. Kappa

The Cannibal Cafe on Commercial. Loved it! Cool burger creations, great quality(it certainly tasted like quality), cool vibe(very Commercial), kinda pricey but rent factor is a mutha anywhere in Vancouver so I'd expect that. Cool little diner style like the Templeton on Granville. Would definitely eat there again.

westopher 01-15-2018 09:50 AM

Good music too.

TOS'd 01-15-2018 11:24 AM

Pm as well please, although I'm pretty sure I know which place it is but would be good to confirm. I'll come with bcrdukes.

winson604 01-15-2018 04:38 PM

I gave up on DOV years ago because I'm tired of looking at menus only to find every place looks exactly the same. A steak and a salmon is almost guaranteed as 2 of the 3 entree options. A chocolate cake for desert anyone? Like fucking come on use a little imagination.

Keg however is always my exception as it's a solid choice for DOV imo but haven't looked this year yet.

I just know the wife booked Seasons only b/c her mom likes it there and we're going to Victor during dine out but not getting the DOV menu

whitev70r 01-15-2018 05:05 PM

And now many of the DOV restaurants have an optional course on the menu that charges $10 or $8 extra. What's the point of that?

What do you mean? You pay more money, and you get more food you want.
Maybe I want truffles on my pasta. Maybe I want foie gras on my burger. If a place wants to offer it, even if I don't want it, its pretty clear the point of it.

Your original post was telling me to eat a hot steaming plate of poop or something. I don't think they serve that there though.

We still need you to come out to the mini meats in North Burnaby. Want to see you work your magic on an el cheapo propane BBQ. Tailgate style.

https://www.revscene.net/forums/6891...ml#post8336967

The meats are no longer at White Spot. It's at parks and sleazy alleys. So far, we've met at Squint Lake, Confedertion Park.............. I have the RS Holy Grill sitting somewhere in my garage. When days get longer and weather gets better. Meanwhile, shoot me pm where you work. I might even bring one of my sons along.

And..... your workplace stays a secret. So many RS stalkers out there. Like that yray.

I don't think you mean an actual optional course but you mean additional options for entree right i.e. Seasons in the Park's entree selection is the following.

ENTREES
Pistachio Crusted Ling Cod
Madeira butter sauce, Aztec ancient grains, seasonal vegetables
or

6oz New York Steak
peppercorn sauce, roast potatoes, seasonal vegetables (GF)
or

Mushroom Ravioli
grape tomatoes, arugula, shallots, cream (V)

or/

Seafood Bouillabaisse (+$10)
fresh fish, prawns, scallops, clams, mussels, fresh basil & tomato

or/

Grilled Veal T-Bone (+$10)
truffle chips, red wine

Doesn't bother me, the choice is mine if I want to pay extra from those things and I ain't in the business but the 2 additional options clearly sound more expensive from a cost factor than the 3 stock options.

Alibi Room - 9/10

The beer choices were great! ($5.75 small 7.50 large) I had their pork belly "samwich", and arguably the best burger i've ever had. I generally like to avoid pork belly (bc I don't handle eating fat well - it makes me want to vomit), but this was really good.

The fries were good as well! And as was the atmosphere.

westopher 01-21-2018 08:39 PM

Haha I was there so drunk last night. They have the best beer list in the city.

subordinate 01-22-2018 10:03 AM

les faux bourgeois, 9/10

damn good steak frites. Gotta make that red jus.

Presto 01-23-2018 08:50 PM

Top Gun Sushi on Kingsway
5/10

I haven't been to AYCE sushi in almost a decade. This gave me a pleasant reminder of why that is. It was okay, but once you have good, quality nigiri/sashimi. any 'equivalent' AYCE item is going to be garbage.

Verdasco 01-24-2018 12:24 AM

anyone else feel like vancouver food is overpriced and overrated?

for example: i tried the mushroom risotto with truffles for $25 at bread street kitchen (gordon ramsay hong kong) and it was better than the $30-$40 risottos in Vancouver (yew, five sails, etc)

feels like the fine dining food here is meh compared to other places around the world but could be me....

and what the fuck is up with these chain restaurants thinking they run this city, $10 for fries?

bcrdukes 01-24-2018 03:33 AM

You just opened a can of worms.
