Cost of rent alone is probably prohibitively expensive to even breaking even. Let alone comparing some Gordon Ramsey (essentially chain restaurant) that can probably hemorrhage money and still operate

man i was just in HK recently and I had the other way around. Beer was $100 CDN and cocktails are easily $150-200???

Food I can justify, but i've had some really ridiculous drinks which was a bit over priced.

Wildtale dineout olympic village was VERY satisfying. Good food, good portion sizes. Will return for their surf and turf plate I saw on someones table.

The Oakwood dineout not as satisfying. Food was good but some comically small portion sizes on a few dishes. The dineout way I guess. We were not allowed to order off the dineout menu but wildtale allowed us too.

Savio Volpe Great atmosphere and heart italian food. The daily special clams and spaghetti was a miss but the pappardelle pasta was amazing and so was the pomegranate, ricotta salad

feels like the fine dining food here is meh compared to other places around the world but could be me....

and what the fuck is up with these chain restaurants thinking they run this city, $10 for fries?

Ever since going to Seoul, I refuse to eat at any Korean restaurant in Canada.

Kaya Malay Bistro - 7.5/10 decent value for the money

This was for the Dine Out Dinner menu ($20). They ran out of dessert (at 8pm) and could only offer ice cream, coconut or mango. The Roti appy was really good, but unfortunately that didn't leave me much room for the main. I got the vegetarian option (allergic to the other one), and I found that the curry was too spicy for my liking. I didn't love the main course.

However, if you get the non vegetarian option for main, there's a chance that you'd like it more. My friend chose that one, and she seemed to enjoy the food.

Here's the menu: https://www.dineoutvancouver.com/lis...-bistro/38773/

Myst Asian Fusion - Decent price similar to any other asian cafe type restaurant $10-15 range for a meal. Service extremely well. 2.5 hour dinner weekday and they kept refilling our tea. Definitely will go back. 10/10.

jinxcrusader 01-27-2018 11:49 AM

westopher, does your restaurant offer a lunch DoV menu?
If so, i'm interested in checking it out, please PM!
I've been interested ever since seeing your hiring ads and mentioning you do whole butchery as well.

I’m not going to a place that used to be Lester’s lol

winson604 01-27-2018 02:34 PM

Wow 10/10 for Myst, subjective but whatever haha.

Victor Steak House - Went last night and ordered off menu vs the shitty Dine Out menu they had.

- Raw Osyters
- Crab cake
- Porterhouse
- baked potato
- onion rings

Porterhouse was decent but wasn't crazy about them pre cutting it into pieces for you. Oysters were well oysters, got kushi, they were bomb. The rest were avg at best.

Service was good, place looked nice but it ain't the type of steak house environment I prefer. Give me the traditional steak house feel any day of the week instead. Would not come back on my own will.

Ancora Dine out. 8/10. Service was top notch. Wasn't too overly loud. Would go again

Appy. Butternut squash with crab cake. Good flavour but nothing too special.
Crab Cake had good crust and tons of crab meat

Entrée. Braised short rib. Meat was fork tender, jus wasn't over powering
and everything mixed together with the quinoa went very well
together

Dessert. Ganache de Algarrobina. Good tart flavour but wasn't overly strong

Mrs had

Appy Tuna taviche with herring cavier. Tuna was top notch. Probably can
do without spicy pepper on top.

Entrée. Atlantic ling cod. Good sear on the fish. Sesame crusted rice cake
was a bit bland.

Dessert King King. Wasn't too sure what it was supposed to be. Wife said
it was basically a mish mash of things

Went to Joe's Seafood in Vegas for our steak dinner. 8/10. Was a Joe Fortes/Hy's mix. Had the Stone Crab Appy. 8/10. Crab is served cold and shell already cracked. By itself it was good but the mustard dip was BOMB AF. For my steak it was the Bone In Filet Mignon. Ordered medium rare came out a touch over but the taste was spot on and meat was quite tender. Wife ordered it medium rare and asked for more on the rare side and it was perfect! Only downside was the table side bread was served cold. Would go again and would recommend

Armind 01-31-2018 06:54 PM

Yup, saw it today. Gonna save it for the summer time

Verdasco 02-01-2018 08:17 AM

girlfriend wants to try dineout for whatever reason and suggested vijs, should I just skip this place and go to anacora? looks interesting

6thGear. 02-02-2018 05:43 AM

Never tried Vij's but we both enjoyed Ancora. We will go back non-DOV.

The Fish Shack 3/10 the only redeeming quality is all day buck a shucks. The cooked food is garbage

westopher 02-04-2018 09:13 PM

Are they a glowbal restaurant?

6793026 02-04-2018 09:59 PM

Shanghai Mandarin Restaurant: (in kamloops)
all you can eat lunch buffet chinese food is $12 (garbage in my chinese eyes, but locals love it)

The chef saw me as the Asian guy coming in and chatted with me in Cantonese and Mandarin; I ordered off the menu and the noodles were al dante (so so good); and their spicy marinated sichuan peppercorn sauce chicken was to die for.

LOVED it there, what an amazing find. 9/10 for me; would go back for sure.

The glowbal group restaurants are hit or miss, had both good and bad experiences. I haven't been in awhile, but a year or 2 back my coworkers and I would go to a glowbal group for Friday lunch. They had a $11 beer and burger special and fish shack seemed to be the favorite. Ironic that fish shack had a better beef burger than black and blue.

whitev70r 02-05-2018 12:37 PM

Cafe de l'Orangerie, 73rd and Hudson. 9/10 and that's because I generally don't give 10/10, saving it for that first time I go to a Michelin Star restaurant.

Damso.

Ahhh, ayce wings maybe isn't the best. Not a fan of those sauces either. 6/10.

Cheapest drink + 15% service charge + 12.99 = 18 something.

I was under the impression that Vij's wasn't participating this year? Anyhow I went for regular menu when they were almost closing so no line up. I haven't been since they moved to the Cambie location. The food was amazing, server was friendly. The lamb popsicles everyone raves about were fantastic. The curry was packed full of flavour I couldn't stop dipping the naan in it.
10/10

Yes it is, I don't know why anyone goes back to these places the food is average at best and definitely doesn't reflect the high prices. I've been to every branch about twice and disappointed each time.
IMHO I would rate in order of most tolerable:
Fish Shack
Black & Blue
Glowbal
Italian Kitchen
Coast

Honestly I don't think I will go back to any of them for a long, long time.
