I've got a couple. This restaurant was pretty popular in West Van, but has been shut down for sometime.
- One of the waiters had to pee during their shift. It was busy, so instead of going to the washroom, he pissed in a jug behind the bar, and walked away leaving the FULL jug on the counter.
- During weddings, I've been known to drop the roast beef on the ground a time or two, and put it back on the platter (5 second rule, right?)
- My first shif there I cleared a table. I threw the excess meat in the garbage (it was a pricey dish). Manager came in, said the person wanted take out, so we had to take the meat out from the garbage and package it to go (this garbage was directly underneath the sink where all the scraps and dirty water go into).
- The dishwasher sometimes prepared the desserts (with this dishwashing glove on, the same one he used to throw away the garbages)
Different place, convention center:
- In order to get a new cup of coffee, we'd have to walk about the size of a football stadium and back depending on where our new section was. Once or twice if someone asked for a cup of coffee I used an already cleared cup to pour the new coffee in and give it to the person
- Instead of taking the time to walk back and forth for a single fork, sometimes we'd reach into a bus pan, take out a used fork, slightly clean it and hand it to the customer.
I have so many more stories its scary.
But you know what the funny thing is? We've all had this type of shit pulled on us and managed to live the next day to say about this stuff never happening to us. As for me I am going to Mongolian Grill on Denman right now, I just imagine what weird shit process the food has gone through.

OD is providing a service, and if people felt he was overcharging his business will slow down or people will stop going to him. But if his installs were world class, winning awards, then he can charge a little higher. Right now, the market price for compustar installs is what it is, which is higher than Toronto. | Thank you thank you thank you for a response that is actually worth reading. The insurance analogy I just threw out there, I haven't lived in Ontario so I wouldn't know.

Worked there for 2 years and i've never see the inspector come to check, they always sit down with the owner to eat/drink have a good time and then leave with the biggest smile on their face. If the health inspector wasnt corrupt, that place would get shut down in a blink of an eye. Rats and roaches everywhere and improper food storage and handling.
They broke every code out there for the place, labor, fire, health...you name it. Im glad im no longer in the food industry, it makes me sick even to think about that shit hole.

So you obviously think no one in this world deserves to make money right? Like I should be doing compustars for $449 so I can't feed my kids, pay for my phone bill, pay rent, put in gas in my car, get insurance, pay for utilities, shop insurance, quality tools to work on your cars, database systems to help install alarms, and me to stay in business to give you lifetime warranty, and to spend time in school and lots of hard work to qualify ourselves to work on your car?
If I told you, you could get a Compustar installed with full options for $250 installed by a guy in his backyard, and you're gonna be his second car he's ever done would u do it?
What if you wanted to get laser eye surgery and the going rate was $2500. If I told you I knew a guy who could do it for you for $50 would u go for it?
I'd like to know what you do for a living, because I guess by the sounds of what you've said in this thread, tells me you don't think anyone in the world should be making money off you in anyway, so in your case, do you work for free?
You want a deal on a Compustar? I heard China has some great deals, go there.
For the rest of you, it doesn't matter what a company makes off of you, if you think they are competitively priced, and whatever goods or sevices you are receiving you believe its worth your value, then you would have already purchased it. It doesn't matter if Sun Sui Wah sells their desert for $12 when it only costs them $2 Dollars. They have expenses, like mortages for the building, employee labor, the guy who sits in the parking lot to watch your car. Clean tables, someone to clean the washroom and etc. etc.
If you can't afford to pay the going price, then don't do it. Don't bitch and complain about it.
You don't work for free, why do you expect others to?

When I was working for A&W back 2 years ago, one of the Lansdowne employees came to the Richmond Centre store to help out a bit. The Lansdowne staff told as how A&W in Lansdowne refrigerates cooked meat for the day, and they just heat it up the next day. Food usually stays in the warmer for 2-3 hours.
The worst thing i've done was drop frozen chicken strips on the floor, quickly pick them up, wash them thoroughly and put it in the fryer. =/

McDonalds Kingsway & Vic - 5+ years ago
We only made 2 veggie patties per day , it would sit in the warmer from opening ( 6.am) till closing ( 12.pm). Never order veggie patties from mc dix.
We dont use gloves when putting your burger together , we wipe off the grease on our pants and move onto the next burger.
Cheese Slices ( they come in blocks ) stay out the entire night - hence the rubbery feel.
I was there for 6mo's - couldnt remember the if we ever cleaned the Sunday & Milkshake machine.

My friend at this wheel alignment shop pushes or pulls the wheels of his customers cars a certain way to change the toe or camber on certain wheels, so when he makes a print-out of the results, the results seem really good.
If your car is unique/fast enough, valet drivers will take it out on a joy ride
When someone pukes in a roller coaster at playland, they hose it down, fill it up with water and keep sending the ride around the track. Meanwhile, they fill up the other roller coaster with people (theres usually 2 coasters). After awhile, when the line up is filled with new people that haven't witnessed the puking, they'll start using the dirty coaster again.

To save money, they will try to reuse as much of the parts as they can. To get the cars past the final inspection before they can be sold, they need to get an alignment that shows the suspension is within spec and to do so they will get a few guys to pull/push/pry on what they need to get the alignment rack to show the alignment is within spec.
This happened to me a few years ago when I went in to buy a brand new car from the dealership on Lougheed and Willington. I went in on a tuesday to sign the paper work and the sales rep said the manager was away to to come back the next day. I did that and the MSRP was the same but the freight and PDI was up by $1000. Since I put a deposit down and they said the deposit was non-refundable and I had no written contract, I was stuck having to purchase the car at the higher delivery cost price.
I spoke to the manager the next day and he said since the car is a special car, first Spec V sentra in Vancouver, and there was high demand their lowest price gaurentee did not apply to this car. Everyone else was buying the same car for the same MSRP and the original delivery cost at other dealerships.
After a few more phone calls that they never returned, I went in person and gave the sales manager a piece of my mind in which his response was talk to our lawyers.
I went across the street to London Drugs and bought a digital camera, pulled into the lot and got out of the car. Took a picture of the Lowest price guarantee sign and drove away.
Next day, I got a phone call from the receptionist to come by and pickup my cheque for the difference.
To this day, I have not gone back to buy another car or for servicing.
