Are you trying to do reverse macro?

mount your lense on your camera, use Av to set the aperature to the setting you want, now hold down the DOF preview button while you remove your lens. The blades will stay put once the electronic connection is gone. Next time you mount the lens the proper way, it will reset back to wide open.

Can you let go of the DOF preview button after the lens is removed or do you need to hold onto it while shooting as well?

You just need to hold it while removing the lens, it basically just forces the aperature blades into position, instead of the camera moving them as you hit the shutter.

Some recent macro shots... the spider one was rather hurried and he didn't like to hang around.

Shot of my Mom's wedding ring with Kyle's Zeiss 35-70 3.4

Does her wedding ring hinge? or is it like brass knuckles ha ha

try the same shot again, but with a real flower next time, I find the texture of the fabric distracting as its on the same plane as the ring so its all sharp

wow little pollen hungry bugger haha

that is some crazy sharpeness you got there!

Boostslut 10-05-2008 05:19 PM

Thanks guys! Yeah they came out to be fairly sharp forsure. All the pics aren't cropped or anything. Glad that you like them. Bugs are cool!

Mananetwork 10-05-2008 05:37 PM

Hey Boostslut, tell us a little bit about your setup? How do you capture these guys? Do you wait around for hours usually?

Boostslut 10-05-2008 06:26 PM

Allright here we go. 40D + 100mm Macro + 68mm extension tubes + MR-14ex Flash unit. All hand held.

Today i just went for a nice little walk around Iona Park behind YVR airport. No real tricks. Just a steady hand. My arms get sore sometimes from trying to stand still and get the shot. I don't wait around forever, i just find what i find.

I hope you guys enjoy the macro shots. Anything that you can see to make them more appealing? I would love to get some shots of butterfly's, and more interesting bugs.

When you get down to such a level with the bugs i think they are fascinating. Even though sometimes i end up brushing myself off after some shots.

Any more info that you'd like just ask. Thanks!

Here's some pics of what the camera looks like. Its heavy for macro i think.

That is one monster macro set-up! Wow. :D

darkness 10-06-2008 07:38 PM

All I can say is holy crap!!! I went out with my wife earlier today to try some macro shots. But couldn't quite understand how you guys got that super zoom. Got a nice headache trying some shots, but now that I understand what you guys are doing.

Boostslut 10-06-2008 08:18 PM

Whats your macro setup like darkness? Don't over-think macro work. Just got for a nice walk and take pics of what you see. What gives you a headache about macro shooting?

darkness 10-08-2008 06:58 AM

I have a Canon XTI with the 18-55mm non macro lens. I used the reverse lens adapter to do the shots. My wife did a lot of pictures as well and she was fine. I think it might have to do with the fact that i was trying to focus with the lens. I will give it a shot again later see how I do.

great thread and awesome pics throughout...love macro. Wish I could justify the cost of buying a dedicated macro lens.

Boostslut 10-25-2008 07:55 PM

Just do it Zuki! A whole new world opens up.

The best thing about macro, is that you don't have to go far! Your own backyard is sometimes the best! One of the main things thats cool about macro's is eyes. Bugs eyes are stunning!

Mananetwork, i like the colors in your macro's!
