Nice shots Senna! Whats your macro setup?

Thanks. I used a Nikon D300 and a 30 year old Nikkor 55mm f2.8 Micro lens. IMHO, one of the best macro lenses ever made....the bokeh is buttery smoooooth!

Awesome looking mother bee, with polin all over herself. Pretty cool i thought.

I hate you and your MPE-65.
:p

I got to test a brand new Nikon 105mm f2.8 VR Micro Nikkor over the weekend. Holy crap, it's a sweet lens!

Boostslut 06-22-2009 05:07 PM

Senna, thanks! :) That 105 VR looks to be an amazing lens! Post up some samples!

Niforpix, the MP-E isn't something you just strap onto your camera and go shooting. You NEED a macro flash (not a pop-up or a hot shoe mounted 580). Light with the MP-E is the biggest thing, and getting focus can be tricky. You don't focus as much as you rock your body back and forth millimeter by millimeter trying to hold still getting your shot in focus(all while your holding your breath). I've spent months trying to get decent shots with it, and am now just getting the hang of it. If you'd wana try my setup out i wouldn't mind showing you how to use it a bit!

niforpix 06-22-2009 05:38 PM

Three of us (with Jason) should get together some place one day for a shoot. Doesn't matter what. Then I could try your setup :) Buddy at work borrowed the lens over the weekend but had not time to try it lol but yeah, he told me it's a bit tricky. He has a focusing rail that he was gonna try the lens with but never got around to it.

Boostslut 06-22-2009 06:52 PM

Focusing rails suck. Hand held all the way! :P I've never used a tripod for anything.

Boostslut 09-08-2009 06:52 PM

Here is a pretty extreme macro shot. 5d MKII + MPE + MR-14EX flash + X4 -X5 lifesize. All hand-held. Holding my breath like crazy. Full frame, not cropped at all. Enjoy!

I would love to hear what you think of it!

DC5-S 09-08-2009 08:17 PM

man these shots make me want to get a macro.. but fucking photography is soooo expensive!!!

No one into macro with all the nice weather? I'd love to see some other stuff other than my own! Or your feedback would be nice too.

niforpix 09-22-2009 09:35 PM

Nice shot.

gars 10-02-2009 01:15 AM

just bought a Vivitar 100mm f3.5 off this used lens website... just waiting for it to ship. anyone ever actually seen one in person?

i wanted to get into macro, but don't want to spend too much money, and i found this lens for cheap. i heard build quality sucks, but it's quite sharp apparently. can't wait to try it.

Senna4ever 10-02-2009 11:47 AM

True macro lenses are generally very sharp. I don't see any reason why the Vivitar would be any different. Just remember to post pics! :)
