Funny thing is that chest protector is 3-4 years old now, I guess he updates his pads but not chest protector, more worn in I guess

Hockey players seems very reluctant to change out their shoulder pads/ chest protectors. I guess its a comfort thing or routine?

I think its more of a comfort thing. I remember when the Canucks first played with their vintage jerseys in 2006, Lu got a new mask and blue pads to match the vintage jersey, he played the first period in the new pads but came out for the 2nd period with his regular pads because he wasn't comfortable in the new pads because they were too stiff and weren't broken in. He kept sliding too much around the ice with them because how new the finish was too.

For most players, if they are going to update their equipment, they usually do it over the summer and training camp so it gives them time to break in the gear so they feel comfortable. LOL one of the Canucks acutally goes thru 9 pairs of gloves a game that he rotates because of how much he sweats, but the gloves are all broken in from training camp and he won't get new gloves till the end of the year because he finds new gloves too stiff that he can't get a good feel for stick handling.

Only problem is that this rumor appears to have been started bt NHLsources on Twitter which is about as reliable as Eklund.

Wouldn't be shocked tho if Meuller gets moved, he's been brutal this season so far.

I hope this isn't a repost, got it off another forum and thought it was awesome.

Basically when Shanahan was 14 he asked Rick Vaive for an autograph but apparently he wasn't very nice to him and didn't give him one.

“Fast forward four years later and Rick Vaive is waiting for a meaningless faceoff in Buffalo,” Shanahan said. “He’s now playing for the Sabres. He’s lined up next to some 18-year-old kid from New Jersey. When the puck dropped, I attacked Rick Vaive.

“It was a quiet, uneventful game. He couldn’t believe the rage I had, not only in attacking him, but it took two (linesmen) to restrain me afterwards and throw me in the penalty box.”

Vaive was dumbfounded.

“He said to one of my teammates at the time, Jim Korn, ‘By the way, what’s wrong with that kid and why was he coming after me?’ ” Shanahan recounted. “Jim Korn said, ‘Apparently he asked you for an autograph when he was a little kid and you weren’t that friendly to him. So he’s harbored those feelings since then.’ ”[/i]

:lol thats an awesome story

Not really racist! 12-07-2009 02:16 PM

There is a postscript to the Vaive story.

“Three years ago, he came up to me at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto and introduced me to his 14-year-old son,” Shanahan said. “I signed the autograph, took a picture and gave him a piggy-back. I didn’t want karma to come back and get me.”

looooooooooooooooooool

During the NJ vs Canucks game, didn't the commentator say Brodeur was wearing super old equipment that's over a decade old?

Ray Ferraro did mention that Brodeur's equipment is years old. I don't know about it being a decade old.

Pretty remarkable though how much smaller is equipment is from other goalies in the league.

Dan Cloutier gets tossed...lol

Quote:

Dan Cloutier, the former Vancouver Canucks goaltender, started for Rockford in his first game in more than a year and a half, but he didn't stick around long.

Cloutier, who was coming off two hip surgeries, got tossed from the game early in the second, with Manitoba leading 1-0, after losing it in a skirmish with Moose forward Guillaume Desbiens.

Cloutier received a match penalty, apparently for throwing pieces of his equipment at Desbiens.

I'd make that trade in a second. Mueller is a good player but he's hit a bit of a snag. He was great as a rookie but had a terrible sophomore year and isn't doing well this year either but there's a lot of offensive potential there. He won't be expensive to sign and SOB is just a spare part anyways.
