Wiki sure update their database quickly :D

Stéphane Auger (born December 9, 1970 in Montreal, Quebec) is a National Hockey League (NHL) referee who wears uniform number 15.[1] Auger began his career as an official at the age of 16 as a part time job in the winter. He began officiating provincial midget hockey and moved up to the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before turning to the professional ranks.[2] He joined the National Hockey League Officials Association in 1994 and officiated his first NHL game on April 1, 2000, a game between the Chicago Blackhawks and host New York Islanders.[1] He has officiated over 500 NHL games in his career.[1]

Auger has twice been caught up in on-ice controversy. He accused Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan of making culturally insensitive comments against the referees who were French-Canadian, in a game on December 13, 2005 in Montreal. Doan was cleared of any wrong-doing by the NHL though the incident generated political controversy in Quebec.[3]

Vancouver Canucks forward Alexandre Burrows accused Auger of having a personal vendetta resulting from an incident in a previous game. Burrows stated that Auger told him prior to the January 11, 2010, game that he was going to "get him back" for making the official look bad previously.[4] Burrows received four penalties in the third period of the game, a Vancouver loss against the Nashville Predators.[5] The league investigated Burrows' claims, but ruled there was no evidence to support the accusation. It considers Auger one of the better officials in the league, and felt that no action could be taken against Auger without concrete evidence of wrongdoing.[6] Burrows was fined $2,500 for his comments, however.[4]

I say the opposite. The ref's are going to stand up for their brother and give the Nucks 7 penalties while Minny will only get 2.

And Burrows will probably get 2 penalties.

If they do that, the media will microscope the shit out of the refs ... we will see :D

Only 1 post away from that.

Canuck content. Pisses me off watching the players that were interviewed about Burrow's comments.
They think Burrow's should have kept his mouth shut even though they didn't watch any of the penalties. Especially Craig Conroy. Shut yer friggen trap if you have no clue WTF is going on. Go score some goals you fcuker. Theo is making fun of you.

"Alex Burrows gets punished, ref Auger gets protected, fans lose"

There's only one way the NHL does anything about this, and that's if it affects the bottom line and the owners FORCE them to do something about it. You know if Auger shows his face in GM Place again, the fans will boo him into the ground, but the game will go on... what the fans need to do, if his name is announced, is all get up and walk the fuck out. Let them play to an empty arena. And when the concession, 50/50, raffle, merch and beer sales dry up, people will actually start to take notice.

Unfortunately, it would take the same thing to happen in every arena in the league for it to actually have an effect, but hey, we can dream...

Bettman knows the fans will continue to support their teams, particularly in the traditional hockey markets, and ESPECIALLY in the Canadian markets... that's why he knows he doesn't have to do fuck all to Auger. The fans will continue to watch and buy tickets and turn out regardless of who's reffing, and if anything, it adds drama and gets him lots of free press.
